This story sites that Rachel's mother was contacted prior to the dig, but doesn't give much more detail.
Few details of Georgetown dig, but Sheriff called Rachel Cooke's mom

Huffington Post just ran a story on this case and it addresses the Cheryl Wick angle fairly well. If this has already been posted, please forgive me. I did try to look.

I know that Texas has a law that allows anyone to give a baby to law enforcement or any sort of first responder, such as a fireman, with no questions asked. Does anyone know the age limit? With this law in place, I find myself even more confused by cases like this. You can just give the baby...
Thank you so much for letting me know. I'm surprised our local news did not note this fact, as it's usually included. Your kindness is very appreciated!
I'm praying for a break in this case, as well. I live in the area and my daughter was born shortly after Rachel went missing. It has stuck with me and I've followed all the media coverage. If RCOOKE is still on here, sir, I hope you know you have the support of those of us in the area. Our...

Thank you for the information. I had not thought through the issue of overload on the alerts. It's a very good point and helps me understand.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for an Amber Alert? I hear of many cases like this where the alerts are delayed or never issued due to criteria not being met. I honestly would prefer unnecessary alerts as opposed to these missed opportunities. I wonder if there is a cost issue...
So, regardless of which story you believe, when did trying to avoid a traffic ticket earn a death penalty? I don't see a reason to shoot the man in either story, but I will wait to see if more details emerge.

I'm a bit confused by the welfare checks and how they played out. I've always understood that the point is to find out why no one was answering the door. I personally know of several welfare check cases and the officers either found entrance through a landlord or they forced the door. Why...
