I’ll go ahead and add, in my opinion, I think the SWAT guy is “challenged” and there is someone who knows this person and knows he did it. They are horrified this happened and are protecting this individual. Unless the protector comes forward, I doubt it is ever solved.
It’s probably not illegal for a media outlet to pay a ransom.
But what do you do the next kidnapping? How do you explain to their family why you’re not doing it for them?
Would it encourage potential kidnappers to go ahead with it because they figure the media outlet will pay it?

Walmart keeps very good sales records that have time of purchase so they can synch with security cameras.
