I read the school was supposed to have reported the searching for "how to murder my dad" situation to police, but did not do so. But yes, otherwise, it seems the school was active in trying to address Colt's issues. Dad has definitely earned jail time IMO.

Wasn't that through the VIN only? And didn't show previous owners, only current dealership (call it dealership Y) who just sold it on the 13th (to call it buyer Z) ? Title has not had time to transfer to buyer Z yet, so dealer Y still shows as owner most likely. Carfax would show who had it...
Someone could run a Carfax and check. Used vehicles tend to show up again and be resold between dealers at several auctions until a retail sale is made on someone's lot so it's probably changed hands multiple times.
If she SAW him she probably wouldn't have opened the door. But maybe he stood where she couldn't see him, only hear him? "Hey, Nancy. It's X, can you open the door, I broke down and my phone is dead. Can I borrow yours?"
