I wonder if those close to him ever suspected anything, and if so, when? He must have been absolutely dropping from exhaustion after that night's activities. Did he go straight home and sleep? Did he take himself off somewhere else, and arrive home at something closer to the usual expected time?

The fire has many benefits for the killer - added to the uncertainty about what had transpired, destroyed evidence, occupied police time and added complexity to determining what, if anything, was missing from the campsite. I can't think of any compelling reason for him NOT to burn the site.

I'm so sorry there was no option for a happy conclusion to this story, but I hope this discovery eases the pain of living with an unanswered question for the family and friends - and helps secure the conviction of the responsible party.

Could it be a subtlety of wording? They hadn't identified the white dual cab at one point, but they'd identified all the other vehicles (including GL's). Later, they'd ruled out the involvement of all other vehicles, except GL's.

Sometimes people are in danger from their ex if they are perceived as happy or moving on. To a controlling personality, it doesn't matter who initiated the split.
