there is actually a legitimate doubt that the girl in that story was actually "missing" at all - more likely that a cold case detective "solved" something which had been already dealt with 30 years ago but not officially marked as solved

this clearly seems to be a sexually motivated offence - this is NOT an entry level type crime therefore the perp will almost certainly have done something similar...
The police know in this case.....they are just looking for a "grass" to provide them with the information so it can be presented to a court because police intel or suspicion on its own is not sufficient.
