Couple who survived a series of concentration camps celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary

MONTREAL - Eva and Ruda Roden are set to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Thursday. For any couple to make it to that milestone is miraculous enough. But the Rodens had to overcome a lot more than just the aging process to hit 70 years together. They also had to survive a series of concentration camps during the Second World War.

“Love can work in strange and wonderful ways,” offers Ruda, his eyes twinkling. He turns 90 next year. “But what’s most important is that we still like each other as well as love each other. A common sense of humour is also key to a long, happy marriage, not to mention to our sanity.”
“And let’s also say patience is certainly a virtue,” chimes Eva, 88, while glancing at her husband.
