BOISE, Idaho — According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), Ted Bundy abducted a young female hitchhiker off Interstate 84 on the outskirts of Boise on Sept. 2, 1974.
Her identity remains a mystery to this day, 50 years later.

ACSO announced on Friday, Nov. 1, that it is seeking the public's help in identifying this young woman.

During an hour-long confession tape with Idaho investigators before his execution in 1989, Bundy said the girl seemed to be a runaway, possibly making her way to Montana. He believed she was running away from the Boise area. Bundy described her as approximately 16-18 years of age, white, about 5’6”, with light brown hair. She was carrying a green backpack and wearing a simple beaded necklace with black and light-colored beads resembling spaghetti. He had possibly picked her up near the Eisenmann exit, in view of ranch-style houses.

I found a post on Facebook that says she was from Montana and was visiting Wyoming at the time of her disappearance but cannot find that piece of information anywhere else. Her case also linked to several other disappearances in the area of where she went missing and she doesn't sound like a runaway IMO.

It really sucks that Bundy forgot where he buried her. Her family must be wondering where she is and how she's doing not realizing this monster got her.

He said he dumped her in the snake river so even if her name is discovered, her remains are probably unrecoverable. In his confessions, he said he dumped the unknown girl from Boise and Lynette Culver in the Snake River.

Could be. I know Deborah has long been thought to be a victim of Royal Russell Long, the primary suspect in the 1981 Oklahoma abduction of Cinda Pallett and Charlotte Kinsey. Other girls went missing around the same time (Carlene Brown (still missing), Carlene Brown (found murdered), and Jayleen Banker (found murdered). Bundy was considered a suspect in the cases but he wasn’t in Wyoming during July or August 1974. However, maybe Deborah did in fact run away and unfortunately crossed paths with Bundy. According to NamUs, she wasn’t reported missing until 1978 even though she went missing in August 1974.

This is interesing. I was looking for possible matches, and ONLY possible match, which I found - Lynnete Culver. Although he has already admitted to killing her, I don't know.

This victim is not Lynette Culver. He admitted that he killed two victims in Idaho. He identified one as Culver and he also admitted to murdering this unidentified girl on September 2nd 1974 before dumping her in the Snake River. Police are now trying to actually identify his unknown victim from Idaho who is believed to potentially be a runaway teen girl who was heading to Montana.

Yes it is. It's just that Lynette was my only possible match, even though Ted had already confessed to killing her. I'll try to look again.

If it was Lynette Culver they would not be trying to identify the girl. Bundy knew Culver’s name and remembered that he abducted her from Alameda Junior High School. He also knew details about her life that only someone who spoke to Culver would’ve known. He did not say he abducted Lynette while she was hitchhiking in Boise, Idaho on September 2nd 1974.

If he's saying he dumped her in the Snake River, it might not be a terrible idea for LE to go through areas close to the edge of the river. I don't know how much help it would be this far after the fact but one never knows. Also, just for them to check the general area as I'm not sure how far I trust Bundy's word on anything.

Just to make sure things don’t get scrambled i’ll list the possibilities that have been mentioned: So far we have three possible matches:

Deborah Lee Tomlinson - Missing from Creswell, Oregon since 10/15/1973 - ran away with a female friend who was later located.

Charlotte Ann Erdman - Missing from Watertown, Wisconsin since 07/18/1974 - ran away from home with a 41 year old trucker and was last known to be in Illinois.

Deborah Rae Meyer - Missing from Rawlins, Wyoming since 08/04/1974 - disappeared after leaving a relatives home to go see a movie. Not reported missing until March 17, 1978.

Could she have been from Canada?

I'm a bit confused by the term spaghetti beads. Maybe something like this?

In 1989, before his execution, Bundy confessed to murdering a Boise hitchhiker, but details about who she was are limited.

Considering Deborah Meyer disappeared just a month before this young girl was killed by Bundy and the unknown girl was trying to reach Montana, I sent the information to the detectives handling this. They said it’s very interesting considering the timeline and it’s being looked into.
