10 April 2010: Cache Valley residents organizing search for Susan Powell

US Bureau of Land Management wonders where everyone will park

The BLM's concerns: Where are all those searchers going to park? Even if they come four to a car, two thousand searchers would mean 500 cars in a place that can't handle a fraction of that number. What's more, taking any vehicle off the roads is strictly forbidden.

in fact, Sheriff Park said individual searchers are already putting a strain on his resources. He said hardly a weekend goes by with a handful of tips coming in about suspicious mounds. "They've found a lot of interesting things, but nothing to do with Susan Powell." In many cases, he said people have found the remote grave of a family pet.

MY SUGGESTION: Mr. Cox, Susan Cox Powell's father, can use some of the donation money he's received to rent some buses!

Good suggestion, Pickie!

But will someone please tell me why 500 vehicles can't find parking places in the zillions of square miles of vast desert land I keep hearing about? :waitasec:

What would it take -- three or four acres? _ Sounds like a lame excuse to me!

The 500 vehicles won't be parked for a ROCK CONCERT -- they'd be carrying people to search for a dead mommy so two little boys can be removed from their maniac, murdering father!

Now certain people who will remain nameless have a valid excuse not to go!

Wow! This whole search thing is getting out of hand. What happen to the positivity of searching for Susan? It's only my opinion, but I don't think she's there, but, atleast that will be one area they can cross off the list.

Maybe LE feels their toes are being stepped on?? I don't get it either. I'm baffled.

"Let the police do their police work." ???????? Give us some tips where to look besides the west desert? I'm sure no one else wants to 'waste their time' there, if LE is sure she is not there.

This attitude towards BLM land just breaks my heart. I hope they ticket every single vehicle that is not parked on the dirt road according to law.

The fact that others have left behind everything from loaded baby diapers to old refrigerators is no excuse for treating the land like it's just a way to get somewhere else. It truly is our land. I wish people could understand how to respect it and keep it beautiful.

If even fifty cars are parked respectfully along that dirt road, how far do you think the people in the last car have to walk to catch up with those in the first one? It's quite a ways. I hope the searchers are prepared for that.

It sure seems to me there are a lot of fine people who are quick to disrespect the BLM as well as every law enforcement agency. I think it's out of ignorance. Maybe it's just me.

Tooele County sheriff has concerns about search for Susan Powell

"The heart of a volunteer should never be questioned. They do a great job, and they're there to help," Park says.

The sheriff says he's heard from search organizers there could be 2,000 volunteers, which makes him a little nervous.

"My major concerns are the accountability for the people coming and going. If we've got 2,000 people showing up, we want to make sure we got 2,000 people coming back," Park says.

That's why the waiver forms. Hope everyone stays in a group, and uses their common sense and don't try to explore mines on their own. What a turn out.....of caring people. Maybe they should give everyone numbers -- like in races.

I honestly hope they come fully prepared, stay safe and get addicted to the beauty that is there.

Search for Susan Powell closed to the public

CACHE COUNTY -- A search for Susan Cox Powell set for Saturday, April 10th, has been closed to the public.

Scores of volunteers had planned to join in on the search of the Simpson Springs area where Susan's husband Josh said he took the children the night she disappeared in December of last year.

Several law enforcement agencies thought amateur searchers could get lost, fall down a mine shaft or destroy evidence.

The search will now be conducted by trained professionals.

Powell's friends and relatives say they appreciate the support but now agree experts will do a better job.

Does anyone else wonder why KSL used a screen capture of Josh Powell's susanpowell.org website to illustrate this article?

Yes, I wonder. It amuses me to no end, though. :floorlaugh:

What cracks me up the most, is how POI carefully put the copyright stuff across the image and they probably can't wait to hear from his attorney. They have some questions they'd like to ask.

Lol how they clipped it right at the point where the copyright watermark starts! Lol! They still got the weasel in the photo though!
