and I do think she is conflating the two and this may be because of the Mormon use of edify and her not understanding it correctly and confusing it with deify because of it's religious connotation. I was curious because she seems to have learned to use certain Mormon buzzwords as part of her inserting herself in Travis's life and world. But she puts her own spin on words and her use of "de-edify" is just ridiculous. It doesn't make sense-if edify is to instruct and improve the soul and increase your moral and religious knowledge than what does "de-edify" even mean.

But I think she just makes this stuff up and her word was supposed to mean she didn't want to bring him down in people's esteem as he was highly regarded by all. Of course, that's exactly what she wanted to do so it is fitting that she is unable to describe it correctly and keeps repeating words incorrectly or words that aren't even words.

The word edify comes from the French edifier and from the Latin aedificare and means to “improve spiritually” and to “instruct” (Robert K. Barnhart, The Barnhart Dictionary of Etymology [New York: H. W. Wilson Company, 1988], s.v. “edify,” 315). The Oxford English Dictionary gives this meaning: “In religious use: To build up (the church, the soul) in faith and holiness; to benefit spiritually; to strengthen, support” (2nd ed., s.v. “edify,” 5:71). Thus, to edify is to instruct and improve the soul in knowledge generally, and in particular to increase in moral and religious knowledge, in faith and holiness.

Fundamental to my message and the theme is the word that preceding the words “all may be edified.” The placement of the word that sets up what some call a cause-and-effect relationship often emphasized using the words “in order that” or “so that.” For edification to occur, it is necessary to have an appointed teacher, order and reverence, divine doctrine and truths, listeners, and respectful participation.

I think she's meaning to use deify everytime she says edify and de-edify, that is if she wants it to make sense in the context she's using it. She says edify in the context of boosting TA's image, but edify means to basically impart an understanding of a subject (usually moral or religious). Ed-ify think the imparting of education. She's meaning to say she's canonize him, but ends up saying she's illuminating others on him as a moral or religious type subject. Guess that's what you get for trying to learn big words in the big house!

I'm not a linguist, so if I'm wrong and there's another meaning of edify that fits her context please forgive me as I'm not aware of one.

136. This is a huge point for me. If you don't know about gun's, then you don't know how to grab and shoot one in a fraction of a second.

Good point. AND, why would you (if unfamiliar with guns) grab the gun of someone that might overpower you and could use the gun on you?

It does sound like she was never told "no". When dad finally tried to discipline her she left... Dunno

As the parent of a disordered child, I have to say having a manipulative, lying child is both exhausting and crazy-making. And yes they do leave when given a choice of getting themselves straight or hitting the road. I was the stepmom (full time caregiver tho) and experienced first hand how clueless the biological parent can be when dealing with a child like this. It is so hard to face up to the truth about the innocent baby you once held. I think she was born like this, and her parents did the best they could. And yeah, it's always their mean loser parents who are the problem, not them. fyi :twocents:

Did the judge ask all of the jury questions that had been submitted before today? I got the impression that there were more questions not yet asked, but not sure.

they were writing more as she was answering. wow, this could go on forever

Please help me understand why this story was a near death experience for Travis. I think of it more as a premonition. Set me straight okay?:

It was a real experience - we discussed it on WS (what seems like) ages ago.

He was on a date, from what I remember, and she posted the story on Facebook or... somewhere - describing the whole thing. I don't think she is the woman who is crying hysterically who was 10 feet away - because they were seated in his car iIrc...

I've seen it, read it - but (uncharacteristically) didn't save it or bookmark it. I am a bookmark addict.

I looked for nearly an hour last night trying to find her little blurb with no luck. But I'm not making it up - and I hope I'm not imagining things!

Hopefully someone will dig it up. :) It happened.

Thanks Hellinor. Not once, not a single time, did this woman break down while she was trying to gat an A + on her answers. She relived and answered many questions about her life with TA and the time she killed him. Did she show a shred of remorse? Of sadness? Of "woe is me"? Nothing. She forgot to cry.

moo

Exactly !!!

She got so caught up with the rapid fire questions that she was so busy lying about that she forgot to throw in the fake emotions.

There were a couple times where she remembered to try and get upset but the next question came so fast that she snaps right out of it and is back to her joyful excited giddy self while lying.

She really enjoyed this. She thinks she did great for the most part.

EPIC FAIL

Jodi appears to have enjoyed being the center of attention today. She acts like she's an expert witness testifying instead of the defendant.

Amen to that, you can't make this stuff up.:floorlaugh:

I'm now listening to the last half hour of questions. A couple, things struck me. One, how diabolically evil she really is with her statement that the reason she finally told the truth is that she felt "fraudulent" and and "yucky" inside by keeping the secret and continuing with the ninja story. No, she didn't feel fraudulent or yucky. But, she has learned that normal people might. So, like the parasitic host she is, she uses that human sentiment to make her story more believable.

Second, did ya' all catch how she said she decided to reveal Travis' predilection for young boys after conversations with a psychologist from CA, during which they "explored the dynamic of our relationship"? This is how it works, people, with shady defense attorneys. They get experts to work for hours in jail with their clients to create a story. The expert doesn't tell them to make up a story but they help "suggest" certain things after hours of evaluations, it sickens me. This is how the fake child molestation story was created in the casey anthony case.

I;m sorry but this is so evil and anyone involved in such horrible lies should be damned to hell.

ITA with everything you said.

When you talk about the shady defense attorneys and their paid experts coming up with stories, you nailed it (of course). Prime example...

Although I believe the psychologist from CA she was referencing was the DV "expert" LaViolence, I immediately thought of another potential defense witness from Arizona, Dr. Richard Samuels. On his website, he describes his services as:

Working closely with public defenders and private attorneys, he will determine the facts of the case and any special circumstances and mitigating factors involving the trial process. An extensive evaluation of the respondent, in depth case analysis and research contributes to a succinct report which often will result in a more favorable outcome for your client. His clear and strong testimony in support of the report can help to educate juries and judges.

When you need a verified expert in the field of Sexually Violent Perpetrator commitment hearings, Psychosexual Risk Assessments for sentencing, Sexual Harassment and Gender Discrimination Matters for Defendants and Emotional Trauama from Medical Malpractice for Defendants and Plaintiffs, Dr. Richard Samuels has the experience, education and prestige to help you support your vital arguments.

And there we have it. You want dispicable lies and stories about a murder victim to benefit your client? We've got 'em here at Samuels and Co!

So Jodi didn't steal the journals? Sky Hughes had them?

Sky had them/some. Whether she had ALL of them is the question, to me.

I don't see how TA journals could be admitted to this case.

No. That's the same woman ... Tejano singer. Jean Le Grand is Jean Casarez

Watch:
Jean Le Grand Me Gustas Tal Como Eres - YouTube

ETA: She wanted to be the next Tejano star. An unknown singer became the Queen of all Tejanos = Selena. Then Selena was murdered.

That is freaking hilarious! Maybe she should have stuck with that career path :giggle:. She seems to have lost her noodle when it comes to trial commentary.

was a performer of any kind. Maybe it's just late but that video kinda cracked me up. Just not how I picture her. I don't speak Spanish, was the song about the poodle she was hugging?

Wow! I never knew she had another life as a singer! HA HA! Such a beautiful woman, but I don't know if I like her singing or not! That particular song didn't do anything for me.

And am I like the only person here on WS that didn't know she was Jean Le Grand?!

maybe this helps from miriam webster:

edify (verb)

to provide (someone) with moral or spiritual understanding <a family-oriented show that tried to edify the television audience as well as entertain it>
Synonyms edify, educate, illume, illuminate, illumine, inspire, nurture

Related Words elevate, ennoble, enrich, ensoul, lift, uplift; better, improve, regenerate, renew, transform; exalt, glorify, transfigure

Near Antonyms confuse, perplex, puzzle; becloud, cloud, darken, obscure

I love the antonyms which is really what she is doing to TA
