On Wednesday July 28th 2010 in Liege Belgium, the body of a woman was found in the river Maas (also written as Meuse River) at the Godefroid Khurt dock.

She was described as being a white female between the ages of 60 and 80 years old, 5 feet tall with grey hair. She had a 10 cm scar on her upper right abdomen and only had 5 upper teeth. She was wearing a grey short cardigan with black checks, a green T-shirt, a white top, blue-gray 3/4 capri pants and mother-of-pearl leather sandals, a gold wedding ring, a white metal watch by the brand RODANIA, a pendant, a bracelet and a dark brown wooden walking stick. Fifty a year​

“Each year, around fifty bodies or unidentified body parts are found in Belgium,” said Valéry Maréchal, principal inspector at the missing persons cell. “If for most, an identity can be quickly given, for some, we can't. In Liège, we still have quite a few to identify…”

And Valéry Maréchal to put forward a possible explanation. “Apart from the cases of the African in Cointe and a homeless man found dead on the quay near the Atlas bridge in Liège, all the other bodies were discovered in the water. Liège is a city of water with the Meuse, the diversion or the Albert Canal and this can complicate things. The passage of time and the water sometimes modify the physique and the bodies found in Liège may have come from further afield. We can't control the water and depending on the strength of the currents and the decomposition, the bodies can be carried over tens of kilometres. »

All unclaimed bodies are buried under X in the cemetery where they were discovered. If they are identified, a name is then added to the grave. If relatives come forward, they can decide to exhume the body and then bury it elsewhere.

“They all have, of course, a story,” continues Valéry Maréchal. “They all met people in Liège or elsewhere with whom they spoke or shared something. Some were on the margins of society and had disappeared from the radar. As of now, no one has realized that they were missing… We are still working on these identifications and we hope that they will succeed”.

They mention this Jane Doe also, but nothing much to add.

Liège, Quai Godefroid Kurth: the “little lady” with the jewels​

This body is an enigma. There was nothing marginal about this little lady. She could have been your neighbor, around the corner.

On Wednesday, July 28, 2010, his lifeless body was discovered in the Meuse, near No. 91 of the Quai Godefroid Kurth, in Liège. The first elements made it possible to determine that it was about a suicide.

This is a European type lady. She measures 1m53, is of medium build and aged between 60 and 80 years old. She has a 10cm scar on the right side of her stomach and only five teeth left on her upper jaw.

I searched for her cute pendant (or something alike), but couldn't find anything that remotely looked like it. Could it be a little Chinese man with a Chinese hat and a braid. Something like this:

This kind of clothing was worn by the Chines community in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia)

In the 19th century, the ceremonial dress for weddings and traditional occasions remained characteristically Chinese. Such clothes were also worn by Chinese men in official functions on formal occasions.

Men then wore the official Manchu clothing of the Qing government: a long robe with long sleeves. These clothes incorporated various symbols that referred to the rank and position of the wearer.

I also wonder about any inscription in the wedding ring. I guess it wasn't there or it was worn out.

Maybe she has a relation with the Dutch East Indies or married someone that immigrated from there.

That’s what I was thinking due to the age range this could have been someone’s mother or grandmother but if, maybe she didn’t have children or maybe wasn’t close with them if she did, who knows but you’d think someone would have been missing her.

She does have a Baltic look… her being Latvian is very possible. Who is missing her? Someone must be missing her.

Ok checked the Namejs ring. It is a very distinctive ring that is not known or worn really outside the Latvian community. Kind of a national symbol. I think this is a massive clue to her identity

Link by the Belgian Federal Police mentioned above didn't seem to work anymore, new link. The ring posted there doesn't really look like a Namejs ring though? They just appear to be 2 woven iron wires, but I don't see the 3 different elements that we would find in the Latvian ring?

I checked the Interpol website as well and it shows the same ring as on the Federal Police page. No idea if they changed it though.

Also, I think this is new info from the Interpol page:

According to isotopic results, the woman had lived the first years of her life outside the Benelux countries. She may have lived in France (Brittany/Massif Central/Vosges), Germany (Black Forest/southeast Germany), Switzerland, Austria, the Italian Alps or in northeastern Spain.

However, she was born around World War II. Perhaps her family fled Belgium then and/or came (back) to Belgium after the war?
