Yes, he could have, but he thought he had lost him and was safe. Unfortunately, he wasn't and it was too late by the time he realized this guy wasn't going to stop following him. It was over the moment Zimmerman caught back up with him. He wasn't going to get away!

IMO If I was followed and lost the person following, I would call 911 if I had my cell on me.Just because he lost him does not mean he would not be still in area.

PD were en-route..a couple of minutes away. Do you really think that Zimmerman, knowing this, would have shot Trayvon in ANY other situation than in a fight?

And you think Trayvon should have known this? How was Trayvon supposed to know, the moment he seen that gun, that Zimmerman wasn't going to shoot him? Trayvon knew police were on the way?

Yes, but you're not 17-years-old and I'm sure you have a lot more life experience (especially reading here) and would be able to think clearly in a situation like this.

You're assuming that the gun was produced before the altercation. There is no evidence to support this.

Sorry but in real life, the bad kids also wear the hoodies and use it to help conceal their identity. I know thuggy little teens. They used to hang out at my house until we had to kick them out. All thuggy teens wear these stupid hoodies. Maybe your kids wore them to keep the rain off their heads, I don't know...or for fashion because fashion likes to immitate gansta videos. Either way, blame the thugs for making the hoodie part of their costume, <mod snip>

I'm sorry, but this says more about your kids in particular than it does about hoodies in general. I am a forty year old white woman living in an incredibly racially homogenous area. I own at least eight hoodies, I wear them all winter long. I walk the dog in them, I drop the kids off at school in them, I go to the grocery store in them. My children's elementary school is awash in hoodies, on any given day you will see more hoodies than any other outer wear.

I must confess that that I don't know ANY "thuggy little teens" but I do know a tremendous number of perfectly average people of many different ages, and they ALL wear hoodies. I posit that the hoodie is nigh on as ubiquitous as the t-shirt. Moo

Do you honestly believe that Zimmerman was going to allow Trayvon to reach in his pocket (I think he had earbuds in his ears?) and call 911? Do you honestly believe at that moment that Zimmerman was going to allow Trayvon to do anything? He had the gun! He had the power!

If Trayvon was so scared why not call 911 instead of his girlfriend? Does that make sense at all? If I am scared of someone I call 911 not a boy friend.

I believe Trayvon was scared of this man slowly following him and staring him down in his vehicle. That is scary! then trayvon knows he is now on foot. Zimmerman got too close after being followed and that is a direct threat of robbery or assault when it is dark out. If he kept his distance it would be differnet. He got too close and when you get within arms distance, they will probably react.

If this were a woman who realized she were being followed in his vehicle and then gets out on foot to pursue in between homes with no people walking about, in the middle of the night, it's common sense to assume that person is up to no good. She would assume attempted sexual assault. Zimmerman never calls out to Tray from a safe distance to ask him what's up and that he is neighborhood watch.

This is zimmerman's own fault and dont feel to sorry for him. It's his own doing.

Yes, I am. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

In the very few minutes that this altercation occured, who would ever believe that they, the victim, would have to resort to that? Trayvon was a young man talking with his girlfriend and believed this "communication" with Zimmerman would just be another "what the heck" moment.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Victim's fault??? Trayvon did not provoke this. Zimmerman did.

imvho

He had time when he knew he was being followed.

Forty year old women generally don't listen to a style of music that advocates violence and a life of crime. They don't generally live or practice that culture. That comparison is a little disingenuous. JMO

Someone sees a gun and their reaction is to attack that person? Is there any evidence that he saw the gun? Or that GZ pulled the gun out?

Sadly yes. Or try to talk their way out of it.

I thought he was talking to his girlfriend before Zimmerman started following him.

How did she positively confirm it was Martin screaming when she only heard it? JMO

She could tell it was the voice of a young man!!! She said she heard a kid screaming. I heard the tape too, it was horrifying to hear! I could only think OMG what if that was my Son!!!!! It was screaming for help! Did you not hear that tape?

If he didn't want an altercation, he would have backed off like the 911 operator told him too. jmo

The only evidence of someone wanting an altercation seems to be the police statement that TM jumped GZ.

He was already on the phone with his girlfriend. He didn't call her! He thought he had eluded Zimmerman. Unfortunately, Zimmerman caught up with him and it was too late.

I personally feel a physcial struggle ensued and THEN the gun came into play.

Whether GZ in a close combat situation thought TM may disarm him, whether TM was getting the better of GZ in that struggle, whether TM, after the struggle ensued, saw the gun and then began literally fighting for his life, whatever the reason, I think the gun came out in the midst of a very physical, close, struggle, in a moment of panic/desperation.

This feeling does not change my opinion that GZ was the initiator of this entire situation by following and then confronting/trying to restrain TM (MOO no link will be provided).

I was followed when I was a teen and felt very threatened back way before cell phones. I ran to the first door screaming my lungs out and kept pounding till it was answered. When the person answered the door I stayed on the stoop and had them call police. No 911 then either...............
