How is it obvious he pulled the gun out after the attack? I think it's just as obvious that the reason an altercation started in the first place was because Zimmerman had the gun out?

All that article says is that "tried to take his gun" For all we know GZ could have meant he tried to take it from his waistband. We still need more info. Will be interesting to know the details of autopsy as to where and at what angle the bullet entered the body.

After THIS? God forbid. Seriously. I'm all for him finishing his education but I think he might need to change his major.

fwiw, I am not biased at all because I sincerely respect the points made by both sides of this issue. This has been a very eye-opening discussion and, understandbly, emotions are running high. I appreciate those of you who care enough to feel so passionate about whatever side of the fence you are standing on.

IMO George Zimmerman will never be hired by any LE agency. He has shown that he lacks the judgment that a reasonable person should have...IMO

Well it matches the police report (submitted ~7 hours after the shooting. It is the 6 or 7 page PDF already posted) as well as several witness statements, including the girlfriend of Trayvon (when he said that he had lost George).
I can think up a million stories that would fit that little drab of info the city and pd released. As far as we know the person leaking this version is the cop who was suspended for lying in another case and refusing to charge a man beat down a black homeless man who had his back to him all caught on video.

Don't monks were hoodies? To me it's only a "hoodie" if you are in a gang otherwise it's just a hood on your sweatshirt. jmo

You cannot tell a person's character by their clothes. IMO
You are correct. However, the human mind is geared towards survival. Stereotyping is a method of survival. When this type of dress is associated with crime and thuggery, then it's going to cause aversion by people outside of this culture. When you see all of these legitimate thugs dressing in this way, and then you see teenage boys seemingly idolizing these thugs and dressing in the same way as them... Do you honestly not see how that can be perceived? It doesn't matter if they're the valedictorian of their class. That's not what's giving outsiders their first impression of this person. It's the clothes they wear, and it's the way in which they behave - their demeanor.

I have a big problem with Al Sharpton being allowed to be a part of, and report on this case...:twocents:

So we can send 18-year-olds off to war with guns, but they cannot legally own guns here in the United States?

Yes. My son's guns have to be under my name and I am the one who has to fill out and pass the background check.

I may be one of the few, but I wait for a person to actually do/say something before I judge them...could be because I've grown up in very diverse surroundings? I don't know.

so he's been in trouble several times at school...once caught with lots of jewelery and a break in tool.....

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/2...t-trayvon.html

lilly's link originally took me to the herald's main page then I had to click a link to the story, but I was able to read it. I just tried the link again so that I could get a more direct link from the story page but am now unable to get lilly's link to work. Sorry guys.

The story basically says TM was found to have women's jewelry (about 12 pieces) in his backpack along with a flat head screw driver which was categorized by the school as a "burglary tool"

When questioned by school officials TM allegedly said the jewelry belonged to a friend who he declined to name. He was not disciplined for teh jewelry, no parents or police were called but was instead disciplined for graffiti (the original reason for him being stopped and searched at the school that day).

Hope that helps til the link works again.

If only the police had been a few seconds faster. I wonder if Zimmermans many calls to LE resulted in their not responding as fast as they could.

The fact that GZ even called the police is ludicrious. Please LE come quick there is a 17 year old black boy with a hoodie walking down the street with Kiddles and an Arizona Ice Tea. you are wondering why they didn't respond? TM wasn't breaking into a house he was talking on the phone to his girlfriend. That's why the 911 operator told "the bully" to back off but no he had to pursue and kill the poor kid. This story and people's attitudes about this incident is beyond belief to me. He was just a kid... Even if he was doing something wrong which he wasn't he didn't deserve to be murdered!!

Sybrina is a very strong woman...

I don't think I'd be as reserved/composed as she is...

I've grown up in an area surrounded by people that dress in this manner, and it still bothers me.

I never said that a tattoo alone does. It all does. His appearance, his demeanor, everything.

Again, I am confused. I wear hoodies, I have tattoos (yes! Plural!), i even listen to rap on occasion. What demeanor are you talking about? What lifestyle choices are you talking about? Please spell it out because I am not getting it here. Trayvon's tattoo, assuming that was a picture of Trayvon, I thought someone had posted one of another Trayvon Martin at one point, would have been covered under his clothing when Zimmerman saw him. Zimmerman, while observing Martin, had his own tattoo under his clothing. No evidence that Trayvon was listening to any kind of music at all at the time, nor was Zimmerman as far as we know. As for clothing, zimmerman observed that Trayvon was wearing a hoodie and either jeans or a sweatshirt. This is what I wear about four days a week. Zimmerman himself was reported as wearing a red sweatshirt, so the only apparel difference I can see is that Trayvon's sweatshirt had a hood. To me the only thing I can infer from that is that Trayvon was better prepared for the rain.

Timeline

7:09 - Zimmerman calls police
7:11 (2 minutes into the call) - GZ tells dispatch TM is running away (toward back entrance, where his house is), GZ loses sight of TM. He is told not to follow TM.
7:12 - TM's girlfriend calls TM
7:13 - GZ hangs up with police, at this point, he does not know where TM is.
7:16, according to TM's girlfriend, TM confronts GZ, "why are you following me?"
According to Zimmerman via LE, TM said, "what's your problem man"
7:16 - First call comes into 911
7:17 - Police arrive on the scene

All tolled, TM had seven minutes to make his way home from where the club house is located to his dad's girlfriend's house. We know, from GZ's 911 call, TM ran in that direction, at least part of the way. He had five minutes to get home when GZ lost sight of him. A scared kid, even lugging a bag of skittles, could have aced the distance in half that time.

Why was TM hanging around? My biggest sticking point since this broke and my question has been answered once, because GZ was in his path. He never told his girlfriend he couldn't get home because GZ was in his path. He said "following".

If true that he had woman's jewelry and burglar tools in his school back pack, maybe he was casing houses. Why didn't the school call police IMO they should have at the time.

I guess they didn't call LE about the baggie of weed residue either. Seems a bit enabling imo.
