Fashion is in the eye of the beholder. I never liked torn jeans, but my kids wore them. I don't like panty hose, so I don't wear them.

My husband had a boss who had a gold tooth once - what difference does it make? He works for the State of Tennessee, and they didn't care either.

My boys have always liked having their hair long, and since I love their hair I encourage it, even though some people where I live hate it. I honestly couldn't care less.

To me this discussion is trivializing a young man's death. This is the whole "omG he's wearing a scary hoodie" thing all over again.

I just don't see how this is relevant in the least about Trayvon. There's no law against changing your appearance. This is a free country last time I checked. :cow: :twocents:

LOL! I don't like pantyhose either, TF!

Other's opinions on the grill issue are important to me because I am wondering if Trayvon was wearing his grill the night he was murdered and IF GZ was intimidated by more than the hoodie.

We know a grill wasn't mentioned on the 911 call from GZ but that was before the up close confrontation. I sure wish we could view the videos of GZ being questioned at the police station and wish Trayvon's autopsy report is released.

Anyway, apparently fashion is all in the eye of the beholder.

I apologize if I appeared to trivialize Trayvon's murder as that was not my intention but this grill thing is bugging me.

MOO

Was Trayvon wearing a grill when he was shot? I don't think I have heard that anywhere.

This is only my opinion as far as grills go, I always think they look like "fancy" braces. I never thought about them sending a message at all. Kind of a way to look cool in that awkward stage of life. Had no idea it meant tough cookie.

I think it's hypothetical, but I came to this discussion late.

Even if he did wear a grill, how did George see it from down the street in the dark. And why would it be a reason to call 911?

"Attitudes we don't like" is not a valid reason, and I think that would be abuse of the 911 system. JMOO :cow:

Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin was on the phone up until the moments before he was killed, cellular records show, and the girl he was talking to says she could hear him when the teen asked a stranger: “Why are you following me?”

First she heard, “What are you doing here?” and then a push and an altercation just before the line went dead, the attorney for the dead teen’s family said.

“I called him again and he didn’t answer the phone,” the girl said.

After the shooting, Zimmerman told police the young man came at him from behind and attacked him and he fired in self-defense.

On the recording of his call to police that is posted on the city’s website, Zimmerman can be heard breathing heavily as he pursued Trayvon through the complex. Then, about two minutes into the call, under his breath, he used a profanity and a second word that sounded like a racial slur, but it was nearly inaudible and difficult to decipher .

Like the scores of news agencies that had listened to the tape over and over since it was released Friday, Sanford Police spokesman Sgt. David Morgenstern said no one at the police department had noticed the muttering before Tuesday.

“I listened to that tape several times, and I never heard it before,” he said. “I am quite sure the grand jury will listen to it

His heavy breathing while in pursuit of TM, might be another clue to include in TGJ's decision...also the alleged racial slur in that phone call...will be up front and center in the decision making..

GZ's father told, the only reason my son was following TM was to give the police an address..That makes me see the justification for GZ to keep pursuing for they must know, it doesn't look good...

The number belonged to a girl Trayvon had spent hours talking to that weekend, a girl he was dating. Crump recorded her statement and played it for reporters at a press conference in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday, but said he promised the girl’s parents he would not reveal her name.

When he applied for the citizen’s police academy, Zimmerman insisted he did not know the man he scuffled with was a cop.
“I hold law enforcement officers in the highest regaurd [sic] as I hope to one day become one,” he wrote in his application.
“I would never have touched a police officer.”

HIS hope, gone in a flash...Thankfully..:maddening:

I didn't know gold teeth signified freedom from slavery. Do you have a reference for that. I'm interested. BTW: Gold crowns on teeth prevent sensitivity to heat and cold and the sensation from a metallic touch. Did you know that?

No I dont have a link, but I am certain you can google it.
thatis how I know of it. I had googled it when I first saw his gold tooth.

Thanks for the info about sensitivity to temperature.
I also read that something about (don’t quote me) health issues, decay of gums etc.... I do not remember much of that.

O/T Yes, Spironolactone..I only take one when needed. They do not deplete potassium ..

It doesn't make you have to get up several times at night?

BBM: What is wrong with this statement is that GZ was surrounded by homes on Twin Trees. Any home where his car was sitting had an address. Why would he go running down the cut through to the next street when there is only one back gate where a suspect could have gotten out????? That statement from the father makes on sense.

Also why haven't the attorneys met with GZ as yet. According to the GMA interview this morning they plan on doing so some time this week. Would that be because no charges have been filed??? jmo

Q&A: Federal officials detail Trayvon Martin investigation

The death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has prompted closely watched investigations by local, state and federal officials.

On Thursday, The Times spoke with two federal officials – FBI Special Agent Dave Couvertier in the Tampa field office and Department of Justice spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa in Washington — about the federal investigation, possible findings and charges.

The Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot Martin, George Zimmerman, has said he acted in self-defense and has not been arrested. Critics say the 17-year-old Martin was singled out because he was African American.

What is the Justice Department doing now?

Hinojosa: We have an ongoing investigation into the shooting of Trayvon Martin and it is a parallel investigation. We are providing resources to the state while we do a thorough investigation.

What is the FBI investigating?

Couvertier: The parallel investigation we’re running is specifically focused on the death of Trayvon Martin and more specifically, were there any violations of his civil rights? We are not investigating the Sanford Police Department, which has been a little confusing for folks.more

BBM..IMHO.. The Sanford Police Department needs to be investigated.. IMHO...Thoroughly.And I can think of some others too..JMHO

S. Fla. Law Experts Weigh In On Trayvon Martin Case
April 6, 2012 11:44 PM

MIAMI (CBS4) – “I would never have arrested (him) that night. Take your time and do it the right way.”

That’s the cautionary word from career South Florida law enforcement investigator, Wayne Black. He said the national outrage that no arrest was made the night of the Trayvon Martin shooting is misplaced. As CBS4 Chief Investigator Michele Gillen found, he’s not alone.

“I believe there absolutely should not have been an arrest. As you know after many, many years of experience, I have seen things go awry because people were arrested too soon,” says veteran attorney Bill Richey.

After 4 decades of trying cases, two terms as a Miami-Dade prosecutor, including assistant state attorney to Janet Reno, Richey says a hasty arrest is the surest way to jeopardize a conviction.

Of course, this makes sense but SPD didn't tell the family this...had the SPD made it a point to continue the investigation, there might not have been this huge a fallout for not arresting GZ...

:please:

One more day and GZ will find out his fate...

One more day only if Angela Corey uses GJ. I'm thinking this wait may be a whole lot longer!

I think the reason that we are looking at GZ's background he because he is the one who used deadly force, felt comfortable following TM even though he knew LE was on their way to the scene. Plus the fact that the very reasons that GZ thought TM was suspicious turned out to be false regardless of what TM's background was. TM was on his way home talking to his gf not on his way to break into a condo, certainly not with a can of ice tea and a bag of Skittles on him. TM's focus at the time GZ caught up with him was his gf and whatever they were talking about.

To me at the point where TM's on the phone with the gf and she hears a scuffle and the phone goes dead is probably when there was an encounter. With GZ's background information I would be more likely to believe he tried to keep TM from leaving until LE got there. My guess is TM tried to leave and GZ may have tried to stop him and that is how the fight began. I also think if TM told GZ he was staying there as a guest GZ would never have believed him because it would have made GZ took foolish in the eyes of LE and the thought could have angered GZ even more. jmo

IN a court of law or justice we must look at both sides. We cannot look at only one side and call it just. That is not a remote option or possibility.
we can only justify why we are looking only at one side. But justice must look both ways.

TM would not be leaving, LEAVING CREATES a different impression.
He was obviously going further inside the community...It did not seem he was going outside of the community. so he was not leaving.

YES I am sure it all happened within minutes of the call with his GF, but... there are still minutes we know nothing about. We do not have a time line for her call with him NOR the time line of the death.

George Zimmerman Lawyer Cites 'Shaken Baby Syndrome' As Defense

SANFORD, Fla., April 6 (Reuters) - "Shaken Baby Syndrome" was cited on Friday in the defense of George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Florida, man who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in a case that has sparked a widespread public outcry.

Hal Uhrig, a lawyer and former Gainesville, Florida, police officer who recently joined Zimmerman's defense team, cited in a TV interview the brain damage that can seriously injure or kill an infant.

His point, which has been made before, was that Zimmerman contends he shot Martin in self defense and feared for his life after the 17-year-old attacked him and began pounding his head into the concrete pavement of a gated community on a rainy evening in Sanford on Feb. 26.

But Uhrig's choice of words, and use of a recognized sign of child abuse to defend a 28-year-old man who killed a kid, seemed likely to raise more than just a few eyebrows.

:what: Is this what GZ will use for a defense? Are the attorney's gearing up just in case of an arrest...but to use Shaken Baby Syndrome is so farrrrr off the mark...dude refused medical treatment...he didn't take that ambulance to the hospital...was walking fine going into the police station..but he now has brain damage along with a broken nose? Any other injuries???? Mr. Attorney...but you're not trying this case in the media, now are you???

Such a familiar ring to that, not trying the case in the media...but always yapping..:maddening:

Just one more day....:please:

If it wasn't diagnosed, it didn't exist!

Some actual, FACTUAL information on Grills here.....

http://www.squidoo.com/gold-teeth-of-the-hip-hops
snipped from source
"Grills or Grillz
Gold teeth grills have many other names used by hip hop fashion lovers; Gold teeth caps, grill fronts, gold teeth, grills or grillz and even goldz, but they all mean the same. They look a lot like dental appliances but they actually are not braces. In fact, they are only used for cosmetic purposes. The use of gold grills by many celebrities has given a new life to the gold teeth which have been here for a very long time, but had lost their charm. At one time in history they were used when permanent teeth fell out, as gold was the only durable and hard enough metal to be used in the place of real teeth. In some places it was and is still thought to be a way to show off one's wealth and status in the society."

TM's history with grills. One photo. By himself. In his room.

Just because TM had one photo with his gold tooth does not constitute a history.
I wear high heels, I am in my 60s.
MAY I tell you how many photos I have where you can see my high heels?
Not many. It does not constitute a history.

Problems in the 6-year-old community started during the recession, when foreclosures forced owners to rent out to “low-lifes and gangsters,” said Frank Taaffe, a former neighborhood block captain.

“Just two weeks before this shooting, George called me at my girlfriend’s house to say he saw some black guy doing surveillance at my house, because I had a left a window open,” Taaffe said. “He thwarted a potential burglary of my house.”

Taaffe sounded chagrined when he noted that the complex is now majority-minority. Census figures show Retreat at Twin Lakes is 49 percent white, non-Hispanic, 23 percent Hispanic, 20 percent African-American and 5 percent Asian.

He suspects Zimmerman got tired of thugs “and reached his breaking point,” Taaffe said. “But why was he carrying a gun? Why not carry pepper spray or a Taser? That’s bizarre-o

Police volunteer program coordinator Wendy Dorival said she met Zimmerman in September at a community neighborhood watch presentation.

“I said, ‘If it’s someone you don’t recognize, call us. We’ll figure it out,’ ” Dorival said. “‘Observe from a safe location.’ There’s even a slide about not being vigilante police. I don’t know how many more times I can repeat it.”

Police Chief Bill Lee said that although police do not encourage watch program volunteers to carry weapons, he recognizes a citizen’s constitutional right to do so. No arrest was made, Lee said, because there was no evidence to disprove Zimmerman’s account.

Ah, but there is a timeline....the 911 calls....all of them pin point the exact minute TM was shot. The placement of TM's body, location in terms to what GZ has stated where they first encountered each other and where the body ended up all tell a story that would be factual. That is what the court will have to consider. The motivations are also a consideration. What was GZ motivation to go after TM? They won't consider TM was on his way to break into a condo because evidence would not support that only being a short distance from his back porch. There will be a record of the phone call timeline compared to the timeline of when TM was shot and that is why the gf received her subpoena to testify. jmo

O/T I drink at least a gallon of water daily so I have to do that anyways, I'm old...LOL.. However IF I eat foods that are high in sodium (ham, potato salad ) like I did yesterday, and don't take one, I will retain too much fluid..

I agree totaly. :)

Just as the pants down to the knees with underpants showing Also known as saggy low riders represent the prisoners,
making the statement "I am a tough guy".
Gold teeth signify freedom from slavery. Well known in the hip hop market and have been banned in many schools.,
while some kids seem to think it is cool, I wish the schools would ban all those things.

The saggy low rider pants are a fashion trend with many teenage boys. While I don't like it and yes the schools here don't allow it, it is what it is. I definitely don't pass judgement on boys that do this, though I do tell them to pull up their pants! :).

Here in FL, prisoners in jail wear jumpsuits (usually orange ones). Maybe other states have prisoners wear pants and shirts and this is where the idea that low rider pants are associated with prisoners came from?

I'm really curious how it is logistically possible for a person to wear their pants down to their knees. Can someone please educate me about this? TIA!

If they were his grandmothers Jewelry the police would not have confiscated it.

I did not know his grandma died, but I believe that they are together again.
I do believe in those things.

Think that jewelry is still in the evidence room?
