Thats not what the article says, it says: "Tracy Martin had been looking for his son Trayvon since the night before. He went to bed figuring the teen must have gone to the movies and turned off his phone."

I think that means that Tracy thought Trayvon turned his phone off because he was at the movie, not that Tracy went to bed and turn off his (Tracy's phone) phone. You know that ad they play before the movie starts that says be kind to others please shut off your phone.... JMO

I think it's just those doors or they'd be arrested. No mention has been made of the station being closed. Protesters should never be allowed to cause the close of a law enforcement office, IMO

I've had the same thought, BB. I've never heard of a police station closing down before due to a protest. I mean they are the police after all. Post some dadgum officers at the door.

I am admittedly a bit jaded wrt this LEA but I wonder if this is an indication GZ has been arrested and this move was for security reasons due to high tensions.

NOT trying to start a RUMOR, just questioning why the police station was closed. Was the student protest peaceful? OH HLN just said the protest was peaceful. The crowd appeared small in comparison to other protests, IMO.

Fishy. Very fishy. And if you look at the shot on CNN, it's just a few students, not even what I would call a "protest" in any real way. (Remember the big one with noted activists? Don't remember it being shut down then.) I wouldn't be surprised if an arrest and charges were to come later today. I have no information that this is the case, but this just feels like it's fast-moving.

Okay. I understand now. Mr. Martin did not say he turned off his phone but that because he thought TM was at the movies TM had turned off his phone. Gottsha.... That makes more sense. I never turn off my phone unless I'm in a meeting. jmo

Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding is that if a GJ was convened, their reasoning behind charging GZ or not would be sealed and never released. But by Corey making the decision herself, she can release a statement explaining why she makes the decision.

To me, I think it's a smart move, so that no one can say that the GJ was bribed or didn't hear all the evidence, since Corey can explain the facts.

JMO, I believe the only reason Corey would have used a grand jury would have been in the instance that she wasn't sure whether to go forward.
Now that she will be making the decision, herself, I think she's going to prosecute. By not using the grand jury, she's keeping a close hold on the evidence she will be using at trial. Smart move.

I don't think the HOA would be found negligent for having "a person like that" there - they don't run background checks, it's voluntary. From what I understand, this NW was not registered with the Ntl. NW.

This is a small HOA, I don't think they are going to get much - IMO, they will go after investors and the management company. JMO because I'm just pulling it all out my nether region

imo, they will go after the HOA on a negligence theory and tap the HOA's policy(s), if they have them. Which, imo, they almost certainly do. It would likely have a limit of $1 million, maybe a little more, plus a D&O policy to cover the individaul officers and directors, and maybe an umbrella of $5 million-ish, as well. The claimants will likely settle with the HOA's insurer because that is where the money is. What is available will depend on many factors, including the specific terms and exclusions of the policy and, possibly the quality of GZ's conduct (negligent v. intentional) and whether he qualifies as an insured under the policy. I'm not a verified "expert" though, so take that fwiw.

....there is NO PATROL, there are NO SHIFTS, and participation in neighborhood watch means NO WEAPONS. If one feels they MUST have a weapon at all times, then that precludes their participation in the neighborhood watch---its their choice, one or the other---not BOTH.

A HOA should either have good insurance OR they will have to assess EACH HOMEOWNER a fee to cover any damages that might be awarded. In this case that amount could well be far more than the total value of the property that is owned.

I don't think the police are locked out, just the students.

This is a very small group of protesters called the Dream Defenders. They are students who walked forty miles from another city.

I think most people still have them because of emergencies. Not all 13 year olds have a cell phone. Plus with today's communication packages the phone is included in the price making it impracticable not to have one. jmo

The HOA can and IMO almost certainly be sued, for one reason, because the shooting took place in a "common grounds" area of the development.

Common grounds are equally owned by all deeded property owners in the development. Not only can the HOA be sued, but if successful, every deeded owner in the development will have to pay an equal share of the award or have their property attached by judgement and foreclosed if not paid.

The other reason a suit could be filed is through a claim of negligence on their part in allowing George Zimmerman to be a Captain in their NWP.
