Isn't it typical that bond agents charge a fee of 10-15% of the total amount of the bail?

Am afraid if it were one of my children they just might have to sit in jail. At out age $15,000 is a heck of a lot of money to wager. I'm not stupid!

There is only one still photo of the back of GZ's head, taken from a distance, but I see absolutely out of the ordinary? Looks like a normal head, see no blemish's, no out of the ordinary bumps, nothing??? So guess you are correct they do say more than a thousand words, obviously GZ's "injuries" were just tiny scratches that healed not leaving even a hint of ever having been there.

The back of his head is shown briefly but clearly, IMO, when he's leaving the arraignment hearing in this video. I don't see any evidence whatsoever of any bumps, scars, etc.

I'm not sure how it works because Casey Anthony had to come up with a large amount for her bond. It seemed like she had to pay the whole thing to get out of jail. I think. Or at least, I think Padilla put up that much to get her out of jail or something. I honestly am confused about bail bonds and how they work.

I remember a discussion on TV about bond, 10% must be put up in cash and the remainder as collateral, i.e., a house, vehicles etc.

They only have to come up with $15,000 for the bail but if GZ's parents are putting up their house, it may take a few days to pull that together. I'd bet money MO'M had the papers all prepared to do just that.

I'm still not understanding the advantage of GZ going out of state. Distance from MO'M so can't assist with defense, monitoring may be more difficult and, personally, I don't think he should be allowed to leave the state.

I watched the hearing again, and though I wanted to see something, I thought GZ came off as rather neutral while sitting at the defense table. I'm sure he was told to always look straight ahead and keep his emotions off his face. I was a little shocked to see him shackled the way he was. Don't really understand that, where did LE think he was going?

I'm not that sure that Zimmerman's parents could raise $15,000 on their house. Many people who bought in Florida in the early 2000s are underwater on their mortgages and already owe more than the homes are worth. From what I saw on the Seminole County Property Appraiser's site, that could easily be true for GZ's parents. They certainly did not talk during the hearing as if they were sure they could raise the money.

Taaffe on the other hand claimed that their website(s) had raised more than the total bond amount: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2012/04/20/erin-taaffe-zimmerman-websites-bond-money.cnn

I watched the first video an didn't see a side by side at the end. Thanks.
It's just after the 2 minute mark on the ABC video of GZ's bloody head. I don't have the link handy at the moment, though.

:what: OMG!! It is not just the back of GZ's head... there are places on the top, back AND sides of his head that clearly show scarring. In addition, when I look at the new bloody photo, I see scrapes that look just like the scrapes I have gotten on my knees when I have fallen onto concrete. JMO-IMO-IMHO-MOO.

I agree with what you're seeing, momma. However, I don't even want to look for scars at this point. All that will do is cause more enhanced photos to be released. It will be another arguing point in this case before real evidence comes out.

GZ's family is only expected to post $15,000 cash - 10% of the $150,000 bond. I would assume that the details of out-of-state safe housing were in the works prior to the hearing. :moo:

Do they have to get approval from whatever other state GZ will be in while awaiting trail - like they tried to get another state to handle Casey Anthony's probation? If I lived in Georgia, I wouldn't want GZ living near me or my state LE having to use my tax money to protect a killer from another state! Just wondering...:waitasec:

FT on Erin Burnett Friday night said the web site had brought in over $200,000. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2012/04/20/erin-taaffe-zimmerman-websites-bond-money.cnn

If that's true, that could cover the entire bond. And if that's true and GZ lets his parents put their house up for collateral, he is a bigger sleaze than I already thought.

IMO, JMO, etc.

I watched this video but FT did not say they had $200,000. Only figures he mentioned was $300 - $600 that he had collected in his website.

I would think in addition to having a bail bondsman in the state of Florida that he would have to have one in which ever state he is planning to hide out in as well. If he jumped his bail, a Florida bail bondsman wouldn't have jurisdiction over him in another state. I still think it's ridiculous that he is allowed to leave the state where he is accused of murder.

GRACE: The big headline is that a bond has been granted to the tune of $150,000. Zimmerman does not have to cough up $150,000, to my understanding of the Florida law. In the jurisdiction where I practiced -- out to you, John Von Achen, bail bondsman, Orlando -- doesn`t he have to dig up 10 percent of that in order to get out of jail?

JOHN VON ACHEN, BAIL BONDSMAN (via telephone): Yes, he does, Nancy, $15,000.

GRACE: And what part of that, John Von Achen, can be the house? Can they put the house up for collateral?

VON ACHEN: Well, that`s a separate issue. The first thing is the 10 percent of the bond, and then the house will secure that $150,000.

GRACE: OK, repeat?

VON ACHEN: The 10 percent is the premium, 10 percent of the bond, and then the house can be used as collateral for the $150,000.

GRACE: I get it. I get it. With me is John Von Achen, bail bondsman out of that jurisdiction, Orlando. John, I`m not sure I get it. He puts the house up to secure the remainder, but he`s got to cough up $15,000 cash, right?

VON ACHEN: Somewhat. The $15,000 is the 10 percent. The indemnitors -- that would be his parents, who have already said in the hearing today that they would sign over their house -- their responsibility is $150,000. So they would put up their house and the bondsman would put a mortgage against the house for $150,000. But just concerning this bond. It`s for nothing else.

What FT said is that he believed (he actually said these are my words) they had "collected" the bond money. I understood that to mean that it may have been a combination of website contributions plus money from family and friends.

You're right - he does say at the beginning and at the end they'd raised enough for the bail. I thought this was the video where he had made a specific amount claim. I'll have to look for that one later.

I'm sorry for my mistake.

No problem. I am curious to know how much was collected.
