Well excuse me but that's pretty stupid then, considering GZ came right out and told his lawyer 3 days after getting let out on bond that he had 200,000 in the account.

And if they put up their house as an asset, what exactly has his mother and father gained, outside of losing their house?

Why not before ????????????

I don't think the money can be spend fast enough at the rate that it's probably going to come in.

Well, that would spare the taxpayers.

So it sounds as if the Zimmerman family did put up assets to raise the money for the bond. I think we need to ask Judge Strickland if we can use his famous phrase for liars in this case...LOL. The truth and the Zimmerman's and attorney are strangers.

Last week, Zimmerman's attorney said his client was "financially indigent," in arguing for a lower bail. And in her testimony, Zimmerman's mother said she was willing to mortgage her home to put up bail. Early this week O'Mara told ABC News the Zimmermans had put up certain assets to secure bond for their son.

Yes. I was quite stunned to learn that George allowed his family to cough up 10K while he only contributed 5K, all the while sitting on a goldmine. Maybe he's just frugal and saving for the future.

IDK. The judge will have to decide what GZ's knowledge of that money at the time of the bond hearing and if that would affect the amount of the bond. The tracks have already been laid to point to RZ as having known about the money, considering the family testified to that.

Well, that right there is a very good question. And M'OM can explain it all he wants, but is still looks bad to me.

I think the interesting thing will be if GZ wins a SYG ruling and the state has to foot the tab on this, donation or not. What happens then? Does the money go back to the donors? Does GZ keep the money at that point. The premise he took it under was living expense and trial costs, so if the state ends up eating the trial costs where does the money go then.

If his balanced changed by 54k the day of the bond hearing clearly the more he is on tv the more money will pour in....

It looked bad to me too, but the laid back approach of the judge makes me think it's not going to be that big of a deal. Maybe that's just the demeanor of the judge but all I heard last night up till this morning was prepare for fire and brimstone because he's going to be pissed.

I didn't get any sense at all that it was that big of a deal or that he was pissed.

I'm not an American. I do wonder how having heavily politicised, heavy duty, highly moneyed organisations backing you in a murder trial affects the course of justice.

The are the ones we let write our laws so it is really just two sides of the same coin.

I guess it's how one's PayPal account is set up. Mine is linked to my bank account but the money stays in my PayPal account until I request a transfer which usually takes a few days.

That is the way mine works to, I just went into my account and don't see any option to have the money automatically transferred my bank account. It also states to allow 3-4 business days to the transfer to take place.

Actually I think it's a good sign that he is gathering all the info, first. Get the whole picture, then decide what needs to be done. It's a more efficient use of his time. If/when he needs to lower the boom, he can do so with accuracy. (And I think he will, but that's jmo....)

O/T This is nosy of me, and no one needs to answer, but why do people have paypal accounts. (I am a dinosaur. Always centuries behind. :D) Is it mainly for business?

Truthfully, we do not know what the judge will do. He has asked for a full accounting of all the information so perhaps it is a big deal to him. We just do not know that as of yet. It seems to me it would have been much more credible for O'Mara to address this in court this morning first and foremost before deciding to go on national TV and blurt it out. He shows a severe lack of couth to me.

Mark Nejame was just on In Session... sounds like he's explaining/making excuses for O'Mara again, as in previous interviews I've seen, imo. Why O'Mara did this, why O'Mara did that, why it's all okay. Must be nice for O'Mara to have his 'friend', the man who passed him this very lucrative (money & PR) case, backing up his every move on InSession/HLN/CNN. jmo of course.

:moo:

I've been puzzling over this as well. It seems a conflict of interest to me to have Nejame as a TH on this case. However, I do know that it's never stopped anyone. After all, it's not illegal.

Shrug......IMO it's going to be a non issue in the long run. He's either going to raise his bond or not, GZ is going to pay it out of the new defense fund handled by MOM, so on and so on.

As far as I know, he hasn't officially been declared indigent and MOM isn't going to ask for that now.

ETA: People are not donating because of 'george appears poor'. At least I don't think so.

And I'll just add to that - what happens if they increase his bond, and then another $200,000 comes in. And then another $200,000 after that? Does the SA keep going back to ask for bond increases? That sounds ridiculous to me.

Yes, I understand what you're saying, I'm wondering WHY didn't GZ tell his lawyer about all that money before.

I didn't think the state was really agitated about it either, just basically asked to raise his bond. I agree, let him look at whats there and make a decision.

I guess what I'm saying if don't be surprised if you don't hear the 'boom' that loud if he lowers it.

Twitter post said Zimmerman was wearing a bullet proof vest and the person stated "aim for the head."

Thats the first thing I thought!

The state and federal governments bring cases against rich people and corporations all the time. It shouldn't affect the outcome, which is decided by a jury.

What it basically means is that Zimmerman will have well-paid expert witnesses questioning every small bit of evidence, from the possible gunpowder residue on Trayvon's clothing to whether that is George actually screaming for help on the 911 tapes.

And the other thing it means is that the defense will drag this out as long as possible. It will go on and on and on because they can afford it.

Even if GZ is not declared indigent now, could he become indigent later on during his trial?
