Michael King was an interesting character. He possibly made a living mainly by stealing and selling stolen goods. He was highly intelligent and was a self-taught software programmer. For whatever reason, Michael never worked as a programmer. After explosive chemicals were discovered in his Knoxville, Tennessee apartment during President Reagan's visit to the 1982 World's Fair, which was held in Knoxville, it was thought he might have a mental health problem. He spent six years in prison for that incident.

January 8, 1995, Michael's body was found on the other side of Knoxville at a dumping site off Dutchtown Rd. He was under several bags of leaves. Cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head. Post mortem interval was two days.

We don't know why Michael was at the Dutchtown Rd. site. He lived on the other side of town and was not working. Dutchtown Rd. is right off Interstate 40, Lovell Rd., and Pellissippi Parkway. Several truck stops, fast food restaurants, and strip clubs were nearby.

THEORY #1: Michael may have been murdered for retaliation. He may have stolen electronics and other things which he would sell. It has never been confirmed that he was stealing and selling. Perhaps someone he stole from wanted to exact their revenge.

THEORY #2: Michael could have been shot by one of his criminal associates.
He was involved with some bad people although he was mostly a loner.

THEORY #3: Michael may have been in the middle of a burglary when he was shot. He may have been dumpster diving to see what he could re-sell or trying to break into a vehicle.

THEORY #4: Michael lived on East Fifth Ave. at the time, a dangerous part of town. Maybe he saw something he shouldn't have and had to be eliminated as a witness. A lot of bad things happened on Fifth Ave. back in those days. I think this theory is rather weak because Michael probably would have minded his own business if he had witnessed a crime.
