HINSDALE, IL –

Hiker Found Hinsdale Woman's Torched Car: Police

"A Hinsdale resident's car was found torched near a trail in western Arkansas earlier this year, but it's unclear why, a police report indicates.

On May 15, sheriff's deputies in Arkansas' Montgomery County informed Hinsdale police that a car with a Hinsdale registration was found.

A hiker on the Mauldin Fields Trail, which is near the county seat of Mount Ida, alerted authorities to the burned Lexus SUV, police said.

For months, Patch had been trying to obtain the Hinsdale police report. But police had denied the request, saying the matter remained under investigation.

On Friday, police divulged a heavily redacted version of the report. The investigation continues, police said.

Police have previously said the car's owner had parked it at the apartment complex at 300 E. Claymoor Road on May 8 and had both sets of keys with her.

After the car's discovery, a Hinsdale officer told the victim, a 49-year-old woman, that a car theft report would be filed, according to the report.

The woman said she did not know who could have stolen her car, police said.

Two weeks after the discovery, the car owner had not called the officer back or provided him with her insurance information, as she promised she would, the report said."

That's a long drive. I wonder if they know how long the car had been there.

Yikes; I'm just a bit familiar with that *very very* rural backwoods location. Not at all likely anyone would find their way there by happenstance. There are some icky stories of nefarious goings on there. In days gone by, they just used backhoes to completely bury "disappeared" cars. There's history that can probably be found with some good searching though the local newspaper from back then may not still have copy.

I'm sure this investigation is researching the car owner's "associations" that might have ties to this area. This brings to mind the movie Winter's Bone, a depiction of nefarious backwoods Ozark Mountain culture.

Holy cannoli-are there any articles or posts here about that area? Just curious

I’d like to add that Hinsdale is one of the richest Chicago suburbs.

Not sure if there are other threads here concerning that area. Pretty sure, though, that someone "of means" in Chicago area is wishing those backhoes were still a thing. 🫣😱
