Sounds as if they are having inner turmoil within Thailand at the moment, and are leaning towards that as the motivation. Perhaps because of the people they have detained for questioning? Maybe they are political activists.

Police have increased security and detained two people for questioning ...

Thai police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda, as well as the Prime Minister, suggested the violence could be a backlash to the new constitution.

"There may be a group that disagrees with [the new constitution] and attempted to discredit stability and tarnish confidence in the tourists," General Chaijinda said.

Thailand's military seized power in a coup two years ago, enacting sweeping powers to control dissent.

Last week's referendum passed a new constitution, but was marred with controversy as debate and campaigning were banned ahead of the vote.

The problem is, with all the "face saving" that permeates Thai culture, they want to call things "local sabotage" when most of us would call it "domestic terrorism." It's all the same to me, no matter the perpetrators. If you're blowing ***** up in an attempt to further an agenda and instill fear in the community - it's terrorism, plain and simple.
