Two players in the South Sydney Rabbitohs' rugby team owned by actor Russell Crowe are 'unable to communicate' in an Australian hospital after overdosing on prescribed painkillers.

..Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray were taken to St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst, in Sydney's inner-city.

Walker, 20, and Gray, 21, were found inside a home about 3.45am on Tuesday.

Initially serious, their condition is now stable. CEO of the club, John Lee said the drugs were prescribed for pain and had not been taken for fun. Dylan Walker's agent confirmed there had been a 'reaction' to the drugs oxycodeine and Tramadol.

The Daily Mail has more details. Spelling one of the drug names a different way too. Sounds like the players are lucky to be alive, and it seems strange such young, top-level sportsmen who are actively playing should be prescribed such powerful drugs. Isn't that Oxycodone the drug nicknamed Hillbilly heroin?

(team boss) John Lee revealed that Walker is now 'fully awake and aware', but said Gray is still 'coming out of sedation' after suffering a more serious reaction to the form of morphine-based Oxycodone...The South Sydney Rabbitohs players were rushed to hospital at 2.30am today after consuming an unhealthy amount of opiate drug Targin during a 'movie night' at Gray's flat.

Team boss John Lee said it could easily have ended in 'tragedy' and said the close friends would 'live to regret' their mistake which could see one of them needing extensive clinical care.
