2008.07.24 George Anthony Interview

I know that Casey sets herself up as a victim, and I may be wrong, but it looks like George may do a little of this himself. I've noticed some things, such as mentioning that Cindy "bitched him out" over the pool gate, how hard it is living with three females, how his sister was late and not helping him, how Casey could have inherited "issues" from his sister, difficulties working for a younger supervisor, telling the tow guy they will get divorced over this, and talking about being jealous at first of the attorney who was a patient of Cindy's. Something just doesn't seem quite right about his interviews. He seems to be talking too much and rambling about so many of his feelings or maybe even swaying the conversation. Yet, barely glosses over his feelings after getting home with the car knowing that a dead body had been in there. Instead he just goes off to work to let Cindy and/or Lee do whatever they might decided to do with trunk while he's gone. No mention at all of what he intended or felt that needed to be done about that. Only that he was irate or angry.

I think George doesn't want Lee and Cindy to know he is there because he/George is off script. Either Cindy and/or Lee has declared at this point that they should not be helping LE if they are not looking for a live Caylee. George is bucking the family dynamic the only way he knows how, by being sneaky. Casey learns to lie from mom, Casey learns to be sneaky to get around mom from George. Apparantly she learned to not answer questions or cooperate with the police from Lee ;)

I think the sneaking thing is because if she knew what they were doing they know how she will react. Living with a person like Cindy is not easy, one is constantly walking on eggshells.

I know that after my husband passed, I was throwing cookies all the time. Then at some point I could actually say it out loud, the realization was there. I had spoken it and I was throwing cookies again. The panic attacks were horrible.

I think this is what happened with GA. You can have thoughts but once spoken they become real. Not only this, GA spoke them to LE, not a civilian.

Hearing his voice makes all the difference to me vs. reading it yesterday. The pauses and slow pronouncing of certain words. Pain is what I interpreted from listening.

I am so sorry for your loss :blowkiss:

I think George is so used to being put down and made fun of that he does not think he is smart enough to come up with an idea of what to do. On the tape he often seems un-sure of himself like nothing he has to share could be important so he starts just rambling on. He also sounds very apprehensive, scared almost that Lee is going to find out he was there without him.

I don't understand something---
Does anyone have an opinion about why George and Det. Melich decide to lie to Lee about George already being there? It seems weird to go into such a robust lie, pretending George is turning the car around etc. Why do they have to do this? Wouldn't Lee find out anyway?
Here's my take, for what it's worth. George didn't know where Lee was at that moment. He might've been with Cindy. If that were the case, more than likely, she would've have needled him about the phone call. "Who is that? Is that your father? Where is he? I told him to be home by 4:00. What do you mean he's at the police station?! Without me?! I'm coming with you!" The lie was intended to avoid that scenario. When Lee arrived, assuming he eventually did, George explained, and Lee understood all too well because he knows the drill: Walk on eggshells and speak in hushed tones, anything to keep from setting off Cindy and the tot mom.

As for George getting sick, I think it was the physical part of the catharsis that took place in the meeting with LE. In similar situations, with shrinks or priests for instance, some people cry, others vomit.

I haven't listened to NG yet tonight, and I'm not sure that I will. Reading the transcripts was heartwrenching. Hearing the audio will be worse. I'm thankful they were released, however, because they contain the touch of humanity that has been seemingly absent all along.

I feel very sad for George, yet relieved nonetheless, because until recently, I was virtually void of empathy and compassion for the family. The sorrow is heavy on my heart, but far better that than indifference and scorn.

I pray George has found love and support somewhere in the crowd. And I pray that he will keep sight of the tiny glimmer of hope at the very end of the long dark tunnel he's staring into now. Cindy and Lee, as well.

Vicki, I think that's George's way of releasing pent up emotion and frustration. Look what the man has been living with. I get the feeling he'd like to sit down and really spew his guts with anyone whom he respects that is willing to listen. He apparently feels a certain kinship with the detectives. By his own words, he has no support system. His parents are elderly and frail, his sister has "issues", and there doesn't seem to be any other family members he can rely on except Lee, to some extent, and Lee's his son. That's going to turn around pretty soon, though, and I'm betting George will say to hell with the shrew and the shrewette. It's time to speak up for himself and foremost, for Caylee, the innocent.

A very powerful post...

I think this is a subtle way of saying that LE doesn't want Cindy interfering in the investigation, which unfortunately, she has continued to do. I think it's also a warning that they're going to play hard-ball with her at the trial, but she chose to ignore it. We'll see what happens.

Ok last night I went back and listened to Cindy's bond hearing video, and Yuri's bond hearing video, and I found what it was. I had completely missed this.

Yuri testified that he called Cindy to get her grandfather's name. LE was looking for an additional way to confirm that she had been to the nursing home and been seen on the 15th. Cindy had told him if he interviewed her grandfather, she would no longer cooperate with LE.

Well, right there in the courtroom, Cindy went nuts. I mean total freak out indicating that Yuri was lying big time. It was insane.

To validate what Yuri testified, the prosecutor asked Cindy if she had said on the news the morning of the bond hearing that she would no longer be cooperating with LE. She denied it. I remember and interview where she did say that, but I don't remember when, so I'm going to go back and see if I can find it.

So that was the 'Cindy and the phone' issue referred to in George's LE interview of July 24.

Just wanted to post this info in case anybody else was curious.

I'll tell you, it is *really* interesting to go back again to that bond hearing with all the additional information we have now. Cindy is as much of an habitual liar as Casey is. They're a team. This is a team thing they're doing. It's sick and it's eerie as heck. And it's no wonder at all that Casey thinks she can get away with murder (literally). Cindy lies without blinking her eyes. I feel so bad for LE trying to find out what happened to poor little Caylee, and having to deal with Cindy's BS and abuse.

What new information did george have in the interview? I agree, he did gloss over what he did when he got home with the car. What was cindy doing right before he left for work.
I dont understand the point of his interview unless it was a sneaky way to see what info LE had.
George was trying to be just a regular guy with a family...the same as yuri, George mentioned something about Yuri's wife. Also his background as a cop..trying to put himself on LE's level. Which I think was to find out any clues they had.
LE didnt offer any clues to george and george didnt reveal anything new either.

Bolded by me.
IMO, that right there says a whole lot about George. Cindy is controlling, she has an iron fist, poor George is cowering in a corner because he is so abused by her, THAT IS BS!!!
GEORGE SMELLED THE CAR, THOUGHT HIS BELOVED GRANDDAUGHTER WAS DEAD IN THE TRUNK, LOOKED, NO BODY, SO OFF TO WORK HE GOES, NO BIG DEAL!
The man was a police officer for 10 years! Give me a break.

It was Cindy's father... not her grandfather. He would be Casey's grandfather.

I definitely agree...it was a "message" for CA. I thought it may have had something to do with her blurting out "There is no evidence!" ...but it definitely had something to do with her "mistruths".

I see this too over and over the subtle hints that they aren't appreciating Sin lying over and over with small subtle warnings the first couple of pages.

Bolded by me. You totally nailed it. I think Cindy is who Casey would have become if she hadn't committed murder and is now going to be locked away for life. And even sicker - she/they would have raised Caylee to be the same way. To me, as sad as it is, I think Caylee's in a better place now than she would have been in the evil clutches of these 2 women.

Even though it may be an unpopular view, especially in this thread, I have to totally agree with your post. George brought nothing to the interview. To me, it seemed like he was fishing for information about what kind of trouble he (and Cindy, but mostly he) might be in for, in light of the facts. He smelled human decomp at the tow yard, but did not call police. A very serious error, especially considering his history. And then to remove the battery from the car at the home so that the garage door could be left open to ventilate....and then leave and go to work? I think the purpose of George's visit to LE was probative based on guilty conscience. Maybe guilty of nothing more than trying to eliminate the smell, but guilty nevertheless.

Last night I went to a funeral home for a friend's dad. As soon as we opened the door we were hit with the smell of decompostion...in a place whose main job is to mask that smell. I began to gag. When we got into the actual viewing room, the smell dissapated.
Talking about it today, even typing about it, just the memory of this smell makes me gag. I have never smelled this before...and it was a masked smell. All I could think about is when GA, CA and LA smelled this. And it was fresh decomposition. It is unmistakable. Now, I can totally understand why GA vomited at the end of his interview. I honestly do not know how they are coping.

I saw NG last night as well... poor GA.. after hearing his interview I feel soooo sorry for him. He knew from the time he went to the tow yard. He has just kept up the A facade for the sake of CA......God Bless Him.... now we know what he said to the GJ........

Caylee wants to be found.... they WILL find something of her .... she wants closure like all of us.... and for her GP's as well....

I truly hope GA is getting some mental health. This is a torn man. He knows in his heart but is going on with this charade for CA's sake. He did say it would kill her, so maybe it's her coping mechanism.

I also am torn, I feel like CA is deliberate in her contradictions. She is trying to cause reasonable doubt. I saw another video of her where she says there is nothing that shows Caylee was in that trunk, nor does it show she is deceased. She speaks about one hair being found. It's not conclusive. She is just blabbering as usual but does believe what she says. Come on people have to use common sense, well where is CA common sense. She needs intervention as well..I can't wait for the gag order just to shut this woman up. The more she talks the angrier I become. :furious:

Hoping today is the day Caylee Marie Anthony is brought home...

Doesn't matter what she says, she smelled it, she knows it.

I know, Pattymarie. She has to live with herself. Look in that mirror each and every day.

It just angers me for I feel like she is desecrating the memory of precious Caylee. Caylee deserves honor and respect and most of all the dignity of a proper burial. Why not be that baby's voice. Casey can fend for herself, she's an adult. Caylee needs a voice and am grateful for those like NG, TM/TES, LP, MB and others who keep Caylee's name out there and will not stop until there is justice for Caylee.
