Baez To Depose Deputies, Jail Workers

Casey Anthony's attorney will depose several key witnesses next week in his client's first-degree murder case.
Anthony's lead attorney, Jose Baez, will question several Orange County sheriff's deputies who were involved in the search for Caylee along with a private investigator who briefly worked for Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony. Private investigator Jim Hoover, who was questioned by lawyers representing Zenaida Gonzalez in her civil lawsuit against Anthony, will not be questioned under oath in the criminal case.

In addition to those witnesses, Baez will also depose four employees of the Orange County Jail. It's not known if Baez will be seeking answers from them about surveillance video taken inside the jail's medical unit that allegedly shows Casey Anthony hyperventilating when she learned a child's remains had been found in the woods near her home.

Two of the jailers witnessed Casey's reaction when she was told about the discovery of Caylee's body.

The state is preparing to make another large release of evidence in the case against Casey Anthony in the coming days.
A spokeswoman with the state attorney's office said some time next week she's looking to put out hundreds of pages of new material.

Also next week, Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney, plans to depose the Anthony's former volunteer security guard, James Hoover.
Baez said he wants to probe more deeply in to why Hoover and private investigator Dominic Casey searched the woods where Caylee's remains were later found.

A Lake County man, serving a 15-year prison sentence in the death of a toddler, wants his manslaughter and child-abuse convictions overturned, citing judicial and prosecutorial misconduct and the "defectiveness" of his defense lawyer, Jose Baez. Baez is better known these days as Casey Anthony's lawyer. But last spring he was busy defending Nilton Diaz.

Diaz, 31, insists he did not kill or harm 2-year-old Noeris Vazquez, granddaughter of legendary Puerto Rican prize-fighter Wilfredo Vazquez. Instead, Diaz claims he lost his freedom because of Baez' trial performance, strategy and failure to disclose evidence to prosecutors, a tactical decision that prevented jurors from viewing a defense video.

Baez will conduct a minimum of 9, and maybe more depositions next week.

These will include:

-Correctional Officers on the issue of the video of Casey being told about the body's discovery,
- Deputies on the issue of failure to find the body back when Kronk started calling in,
-And several of Casey's friends including Amy H. & Kio Marie.:wolf:

Jose Baez will question -- under oath -- four people with Orange County Corrections on Thursday. These are the folks watching his client in jail.

On Tuesday, he plans to interview two people from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and private investigator Jim Hoover, who volunteered his services to the Anthony family last fall.

On another matter, prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick filed a document, saying she turned a CD of "duct tape photos" from the FBI lab to Baez.

DeForest theorized that Baez will use the depositions to get the video and others thrown out of court. Baez has claimed that the videos captured private meetings between him and his client.

Baez also will question Jim Hoover, a private investigator who worked for George and Cindy Anthony.
Baez has scheduled at least nine depositions for next week, WESH's 2 Bob Kealing reported. "Most are law enforcement and corrections officers, but some are friends of Casey," Kealing said, mentioning Amy Huizenga.
WESH anchor Martha Sugalski said: "The list of names just keeps getting longer and longer."
