2009.07.30 Deposition Lee Anthony

I feel foolish putting "thanks" on so many posts, but you all are so smart and clever at putting together information and implications. THANKS!

It's a great read, though that's hard to say when you are talking about the death of a child.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think a corroborated "admission" from those three would prove anything.

All that garbage about "oh, I was too tired to read through all the discovery" and "I only read a couple of interviews" and "I didn't have a chance to look at that" is a total crock, imo. What else do these people have to do all night, every night. Talk? They are prepping for trial. It's obvious.

ITA. Just because they say it doesn't make it true ~ but at least they're on record for it now.

It sounded as though they were trying to demean the importance of the documents they had been given to review, didn't it? Like they had more important things to take care of before they could spare any time or effort to devote to such a trivial task. Grrrrrrrrr

Holy Cow! I have been trying to get through LA's depo all week and it's just......like a verbal twilight zone! There are very few instances where he will respond with a straightforward "yes" or "no" or even an "I don't remember". He talks and talks, repeatedly using phrases like "you know". I think he has learned to speak this way in order to keep from committing himself to any particular "truth" until someone ELSE decides that truth for him. I think he's used to starting out talking, then leaving things open-ended until CA sort of wraps things up for him and lets him know what he thinks! LOL!

It is sad, really...I think that he probably was invested in getting at the truth in the beginning. Now he's just towing the family line and forgetting all about Caylee.

Another thing in this depo, Lee states that Jesse is a liar as he did not admit he met AL that day at the pool party at Arden Villas. Well maybe Jesse did not admit it to Lee but he certainly told LE the whole story.

You can see these people have it in for Jesse in a big way.

Also the irony in calling someone else a liar because of one omission to them but will not call Casey out on all her BS.

I totally agree. They are quick to say someone else lied or that they believe that someone else is the nanny, but when asked if KC refers to herself as the nanny, the subject gets changed or they say that they believe her story about the nanny, while admitting that she lies. And they can't believe someone else might not be exactly correct on a date, but they have changed plenty of dates that they said something happened. They make it sound like everyone KC knew is covering up a story except KC, who is just speaking in code.

Yep, and we know that during the early months - when they could have actually been LOOKING for Caylee - they spent all kinds of time on line reading blogs and printing out stuff about themselves. More interested in who might be "disseminating hate" against their family than anything else. They are media hounds - at least CA is - so I don't think the other two are allowed to miss much.

You're right about them being on record - but they have never told the same story twice, and when confronted with inconsistencies they wriggle their way out of them with the lamest of excuses. Their faces will be covered in egg after all is said and done.

The guy should run for office. I've seen better complete sentences and thoughts out of politicians and they are the worst at double-speak and nonsensical fragments.

I think that it is because that all 3 of them are making claims that they don't even believe that Caylee is deceased, and the SA is just showing more proof that those were Caylee's clothes and they were found with Caylee's body.

You're probably right. But what difference does it make to the SA (or the future jury) if the A's claim they don't believe Caylee's dead? The moment the jury learns that Caylee's remains were positively identified from her DNA, they aren't going to pay an iota of attention to the A's opinion in the matter.

Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe the A's have a devious reason for suddenly adopting the nonsensical "position" that they still believe Caylee is alive. The only explanation I can come up with is that they're planning to justify some sort of extremely shady/suspicious behaviors that LE knows about (and we may not know about yet) by saying on the witness stand something like: "Since we believe Caylee is still alive, you can't accuse us of trying to protect a murderer."

I'm not explaining myself well here. What I'm trying to say is that this "Caylee is still alive" group theme has sprung up right of the blue, and CA (the nurse), GA (the police detective), and LA (the high school graduate) are all willing to publicly disgrace themselves by prentending they are too stupid to grasp even the concept of DNA!

Think of how image-conscious and self-important and pompous these 3 people have been until now. Think of how intelligent and clever and well-spoken they've each tried to appear (usually unsuccessfully, but that's not to the point.) And now these same egotistical people have elected to be seen as 3 drooling dunces?

I mean, come on! Before agreeing to this plan to declare their mutual belief that Caylee is alive, GA had to have considered the problem that the nation has previously witnessed things like his weeping plea to the court to seal his granddaughter's autopsy photos. Or his choked-up declaration on 48 Hours that he'll never hear the sound of Caylee's voice again!

And Lee knows d@mned well he stood at a podium during a nationally televised memorial for his neice where he spoke while weeping and kissing a bracelet containing CMA's ashes.

I'll leave the ever-scheming, devious Cindy out of this because Cindy never allows logic to intervene in anything she wants to say or do. Come to think of it, I should have left George out of this too, because George is used to disgracing himself, willingly and unwillingly.

That leaves me with only Lee to ponder over... Why would he be willing to humiliate himself by pretending he doesn't know, doesn't understand, doesn't even believe in the concept of DNA and therefore believes Caylee is still alive? In his deposition he knowingly contradicted several of Cindy's claims, such as her claim that she never quarrelled with KC, so he's not completely spineless.
Furthermore, he wouldn't be obstructing Cindy's plan by stating that he, personally, doesn't believe Caylee is still alive.

I therefore conclude that Lee's only reason for going along with this nonsensical new theme that Caylee is still alive is....tada....there's something important in it for him. In fact, maybe Cindy's whole purpose of "resurrecting" poor Caylee is to protect him from something.

Aw heck, I'm overthinking this badly. The A's make me crazy. Good night all.

I heard the prosecution was going to claim that the shirt was put on Caylee for a specific purpose - to symbolize or state that she was 'trouble' and that the shirt had significance to get that message across or something. Was wondering if that was going to be part of showing premeditation?

I also think that JB was going to claim that it looked like that lady's granddaughter (the MySpace page-exhibit 3)...little did he realize the page cropped Casey out of the photo. The only flaw to my thinking is how did he anticipate they would show the pic?

I don't think you're overthinking it at all. Well, maybe you gave Lee too much credit for his education. After reading the depo I came to the conclusion that there is something seriously wrong with him...until the very end that is. You're right...there is a setup going on. I think Lee did do "something".
Also, just wondering how come noone spoke of the blue screen on the laptop?

I've always thought there is something seriously wrong with Lee. At various times his behavior and reasoning have mimicked Cindy's belligerant superiority, slyness, dishonesty, evasiveness, and repulsive flair for drama. Others WSers here, who are kinder (or blinder? :waitasec:) than I, often express sympathy and empathy for him because he's been dragged into this Casey/Caylee mess. I have a great deal of sympathy for him for being born to Cindy and George Anthony, but that is as far as I go. I think that if he were a little smarter than he is, he would have succeeded in his efforts to do serious damage to the case against his sister.

Snip:
Also, just wondering how come noone spoke of the blue screen on the laptop?

Whenever I come to a point in the depos where I wonder why on earth the SAs didn't bring up something, or corner the Anthonys into admitting something, I remind myself of what one brilliant WS pointed out: These depositions were taken under subpoena and therefore carry with them a guarantee of immunity. Or, to quote what the SA told George at the beginning of his depo:

"Not only can nothing that you tell us here be used against you, but nothing that we derive from what you tell us be used against you."

great post :)

He's slick, unlike Casey. Though I don't think he has been trying to do any damage to the case against his sister. Imo, he has been trying to actually help build the case against her.. if not for Lee we would not know half of the bad stuff Casey has done throughout her life.

I have seen the term "psychopath" come up over and over again in this case but I am of the opinion that it is being used for the wrong member of this "family".

Thanks was not enough for this excellent and well thought-through post! I always enjoy reading your posts, but this one is a real zinger!

To me it doesn't make any difference that they are claiming that Caylee is not deceased. I agree with their statements that they will lie or do whatever they need to do to get Casey out of jail. I imagine that they have an ulterior motive for making that claim. I hope the jury will look at the facts in this case and all statements that they have made whether in a deposition or on tv and compare what they have said.

Well said..
Just want to add that Lee was right when he stated that he and his mom are alike in personalities.
I also think he deleted everthing that was deleted from Casey's computer and LE knows it.
He also seems to contradict himself in a lot of things..I think was funny we he stated that he doesn't remember them using duct tape at all at the command center.

Even funnier is how he can have a vivid recollection of one thing...and zippo of another. Yup...he's responsible for a whole lot. There is no doubt in my mind that he was the "clean up" guy...so ordered by his mother.
