You know, what bothers me about Judge Strickland is that he asked to be introduced to Marinade Dave yesterday- he apparently follows his blog- and I have looked at his site a couple of times re the James Thompson report, but does it pass the sniff test when a Judge expresses interest in a website like that? I don't know what to make of it...

When did he do that?

When did he do that?

Yesterday, at the end of the hearing, JSS asked the Usher to bring Dave over and he shook his hand and told him he 'followed his blog' or words to that effect .
Dave has made several references to it today on his website and he has said that an article he is writing about it ,with video should be up today.

I have great concerns about this as well, and sure hope we don't have a troupe of "Dancing Stricklands" in our future....

Do we REALLY believe that JS would jeopardize this case?? Perhaps he said nothing of the sort and that is just the side we are getting. Like kentjbkent said before.......this has turned into a circus......the blogging in detail about his new buddy the judge, building anticipation of the story.....none of which can even be verified. I have my doubts. Given that JB has brought up the local blogs, media references, etc......in his Motion for COV......it is LIKELY that JS has reviewed sites, done his own research, and done a bit of his own investigation. Dave has other topics on his site and perhaps if there WAS ( and I doubt it) a reference to the site it could have possibly referred to his diabetes articles and we are just getting twisted skewed info. I have seen JS demonstrate the patience of a nun, and above ALL thoughtful and fair decisions on all motions. I have no worries about him. I think we are seeing only one side of the story.....and that is never the whole story.

ZsaZsa,
You know, I'm trying to figure out how I feel about that. Especially after hearing what Mark Furhman had to say about crime, news and celebrity. High profile cases become the news, and this one has all the elements of drama and bizarre characters & behaviors to keep it in the news. We are in a different world now, then we were in 1994? for the OJ case. The Internet changes everything, as do the 24 hour news cycles,

I think technology has crept up on the legal system, so now we are faced with some ethical and legal dilemmas that have not existed before. The other issue here is the advancement of technology and those folks of a certain generation (50's & 60's) have not the grasp of what can be done as the younger generation.
The whole mess with the photos, & videos ( JB et al are having trouble with) black jacks, sim cards, cell & disposable phones . . . laptop & pc's . . .
To be honest with you, I had secretly hoped JS actually did read here, or knows about this site. There are folks here who have done a lot of "homework" about this case, and there are a lot of facts presented, myths debunked, and of course opinions offered. The ping maps, timelines, evaluations of evidence, both forensic & discovery. This case is picked apart here with a fine toothed comb, by some very savvy sleuthers.

Marinade Dave lives in the Orlando area, has tried to stay on top of the facts of this case and bring them to folks who don't know the area. ( Interesting trips to sites important to the case have been videotaped, for example) obviously Judge Strickland is familiar with who he is and what he does.

He is not alone, there are other folks and sites that have crime blogs & forums and this case, as Furhman has said, has turned into a cottage industry. Then we are dealing with Florida here, and the sunshine laws, which is a whole other thing.
So I guess we are at a place in time now, where this will have to be addressed by the legal community. If information is in the public domain, should Judges not take advantage of it?? I'm just not sure. I tend to think that fact is fact and evidence is evidence and the truth is truth, and that is the point of the whole thing. That the facts see the light of day and justice be decided on these facts, will hopefully bring the right end for Caylee. And the right end for the one who took her life.

So I am pondering all of this and do not know what I think yet . .

No, at the end of the case, the usher accompanies Casey to the exit, then she turns as Judge Strickland asks her something and what he is asking is for her to bring the guy in the striped shirt to him. Dave thinks he has done something wrong but when he approaches the bench- that's when the video ends... according to what was posted yesterday he said he was glad to meet him. - if you keep checking the Marinade Dave site he says he is preparing a report.? any more than that I don't know. It just sounds VERY odd to me that a Judge would openly declare an interest in a 'Justice for Caylee' type of website...

BBM:

We need to send Tricia to the next hearing wearing a Websleuths t-shirt and see if she gets called to the bench. That's the only way we'll know for sure. :)

Only problem with that is "someone" (who does sound like JS) can be heard on the live feed....now WHY he wanted to talk to Marinade Dave has not been confirmed by anyone EXCEPT MD to my knowledge...

I was watching the hearing live and replayed it several times to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. It sounded exactly like JS. My hope is that Dave is somewhat of a celebrity in the local area and has had blogs in the past covering other issues. GA recognized him as well and patted him on the back.

ZsaZsa,

(SNIPPED FOR BREVITY)

and there are a lot of facts presented, myths debunked, and of course opinions offered. The ping maps, timelines, evaluations of evidence, both forensic & discovery. This case is picked apart here with a fine toothed comb, by some very savvy sleuthers.

You make some good points, but this is how I see it from my perspective...

As "sleuthers" on this particular website, we have boundaries set by Tricia that we all operate under. While we do theorize, opinionize, speculate, we operate only with proven FACT and back up our thoughts with links to such facts. In our sleuthing efforts, we do not attempt to instigate ourselves into the investigation, we do not attempt to contact witnesses in this case to "interview" them and then state FACT based on information we learn from said witnesses. We are very careful to preface our comments with "in my opinion, I believe, I suspect, etc.

Some other sites and bloggers, including Marinade Dave in my opinion, have decided to annoint themselves as "self-appointed investigator" and are attempting to infiltrate the investigation. Marinade Dave contacting the computer guy for an "interview" after release of his police report is a perfect example. He also went to Walmart and "interviewed" employees concerning the doors. That was the beginning of his "investigation" into this case.

There is SLEUTHING and there is INVESTIGATING. I would hope that JS wouldn't consider anything that a blogger "investigated" as evidence or fact in a case. ("I'm not a doctor, but play one on TV").

If you want to become an investigator, contact your local PD for career information. If you want to be the next Kathy Belich, contact your local community college. (not directed at you, celticthyme!)

You know.....as much as I would LOVE to see a member of the gallery wearing a WS shirt.....I can't imagine anyone would really want to do it. Our intentions are honest and motivated by the desire to find the truth (as opposed to nailing someone). With all the media strutting and grandstanding, I take comfort in the fact that we are not present en masse declaring our presence. We are there in the shadows, in the background, out of the spotlight, and out of "camera range". We are there to support Caylee and find the truth. We expect nothing in return. I am proud to be a WS.

According to MD postings the evening after the hearing, when he sat down in the courtroom, he shook hands and introduced himself to George.

I didn't get the impression that he was a local celebrity before the hearing, but based on his recent comments on his blog, he considers himself one since the hearing.

BTW...he also stated that BC was sitting on his other side and when JS was discussing the autopsy photo issue, MD turned to BC and told him that he had "advise" for him about how to handle that. He stated that BC gave him his business card and that he (MD) plans to contact BC with some "confidential information".

Way to "work the crowd" to involve yourself in this case...

Yes, I heard it too and was curious as to what he wanted him for as I read that Dave was going to be there, and I could see him talking to GA right after the case ended. I thought he was going to be admonished, maybe he brought a camera in or something along those lines, then the feed ended... I looked at MD's website later and it said something along the lines of he was sitting in a hospital room with his parent and he was thrilled with what the Judge had said to him, he was going to write it up later.

Thanks were just not enough (so I bolded AND underlined!)

This is why I am so respectful of Muzikman. To date, he is the only one I am aware of who has been in close proximity to this case, but remains true to the memory of Caylee.

He has apparently backed away from that statement right now. Last I checked, he stated that he was going to hold off posting anything about his 'time" with Strickland due to the 48 Hours broadcast tonight?

I don't like it either. It's a bit too "Look at me, I'm a celebrity now".

I work for a judge. She won't even read newspaper articles about any case that is ongoing in front of her. I'm sure all judges are different, but JS seems to be an ethical man to me. From what I've seen at the hearings.

Yes, and despite the repeated requests for, hints about or comments pondering (not posturing..FWIW) his identity.....he gracefully declines any efforts that may "credit him personally" or demonstrate his willingness to"show himself"....assuming he is a he and not a she (see gender confusion and speculation about kentjbkent). Hee Hee not to be confused with "he he".

Guys, I have a real hard time believing this. Come on. Out of all the HUNDREDS of blogs out there about this case and the judge just happens to follow Dave's blog? Not buying it.

Here is my concern my friends. Dave seems to be inserting himself in this. I don't want to give him a million hits on his site from Websleuths unless I am sure he is being truthful.

New Rule: unless what he has on his blog can be verified let's not post about it OK? This reminds me of another time during this case when we got wrapped up in another blogger who turned out to be a total kook. His name rhymes with "flirt."

No more links to his site please that is unless we can prove what he is saying.

Deal?
