Here is something else interesting.

Lookee here:

http://www.wftv.com/pdf/20907922/detail.html

On page two there is a representation--in a legal document--filed by an officer of the court--that Cheney Mason made a phone call on behalf of Dominic Casey in the ZFG civil lawsuit when DC was resisting being deposed.

Defense attorney Cheney Mason said claims made by Casey Anthony and Baez that Caylee was alive will now work against them at trial.

"Then all the talking, all the press interviews and the parents going on this show and that show and the lawyer going on different shows establishes they have no credibility whatsoever," Mason said.

The testing of the remains could be the key to the case.

"The most important thing is how did she die?" Mason said. "It could have been an accidental death -- and we've talked before -- an improper disposal, it could have been a brutal homicide. We don't know, and until the medical examiner is finished and renders a report, no one is going to know."

Rahter said an accidental death would be hard to believe.

"You can pretty well predict there's going to be a life sentence, either a plea and get it over with or have a circus trial and then be convicted and get life," Mason said.

I wonder if CMason remembers what he's stated early on?

Now to see where he leads Inmate Anthony? I'm leading toward my underlined sentence! Either way, the end result will be a conviction! JMHO

From the statements above to what he stated yesterday, we're looking for an acquittal, we will walk out with Inmate Anthony, paraphrased...okie dokie!

It is my opinion that he will know the right questions to ask during depositions of the witnesses. He has come on board at the right time. Have they deposed Ym yet?

I believe, YM was interviewed...not yet deposed...someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, just a gentle reminder...a deposition won't change the FACTS or the evidence....and this ain't YM's first time at the rodeo!!

Here is an extensive interview by Tony Pipitone with Cheney Mason and another attorney about defense strategies before Caylee's body was found (article from November 2008). Makes interesting reading now.

Also see Mason talking about the prior claims that Caylee was alive giving Casey, GA, CA, and Baez "establishes they have no credibility whatsoever."!

I love a man with a flexible mind.

I wonder how long it will take him to backtrack from all his previous statements?

This is great, Casey's defense atty predicts the outcome of her case...BBM.

If the case plays out how many think, the experts agree on what will likely happen.

"You can pretty well predict there's going to be a life sentence, either a plea and get it over with or have a circus trial and then be convicted and get life," Mason said.

"Yeah," Rahter said.

I think I'll keep this one...

Well, I don't guess Casey will be taking the stand according to Cheney...but, we knew that didn't we ? BBM.

If the case did get to a jury, Pipitone asked Mason if he thought her attorneys would put her on the stand.

"Knowing what I know at this time, there's not a snowball's chance you know where I put her on the witness stand," Mason said.

"Why is that?" Pipitone said.

"Well, because there's so much to cross-examine her about," Mason said.

You've got to love those defense lawyers talking out of both sides of their mouths.

As a resident of Orlando and Orange County for the last 30 years, I have heard of Cheney Mason and his reputation as a fine lawyer before but had never seen him in action. I was absolutely gobsmacked by what I saw. I felt that he came off very condescending, rude, made inappropriate remarks, and used the "old man" "going deaf" too many times to be believed. It seemed like he came in guns blazing, and unceremoniously shoved Baez and Lyons to the back of the bus and settled himself in the drivers seat.
I am certainly no expert, but having served on a few juries here in the county, I would wager that his behavior would be viewed very negatively by the jurors, as would KC's grins, snorts, head shaking and eye rolls.
But.... what do I know???
You nailed him all right! He was my divorce attorney and you would have thought he was representing my spouse. He gave me the creeps and still does.

Same as Mark Geragos. Need I say more?

He actually said that????? Do any of these attorneys know the phrase "No, comment at this time?" Just let me put my ego right out there. KC thinks she's walking and he's talking life sentence. Big difference. JMO

CM made that statement (among many others over a year ago) in a couple of interviews he did with local media in Orlando.

He also said over a year ago that he wouldn't get involved in this case for less than 1 mil up front.

Funny how he's changed his mind in the last 12-14 months isn't it?

It is pretty much common knowledge up here that certain high-speed lawyers have certain judges that they are buddies with. This has the paradoxical effect of those lawyers especially minding their Ps & Qs when practicing in front of their 'friends'. I seriously doubt that CM is a 'buddy' of JS from both the 'vibes' between them yesterday and CM's behaviour. One thing I do know about those allegedly 'high-speed' lawyers. It is a common denominator that they are paid for their advice. If a client refuses to heed their advice over and over, you can bet there will be a parting of ways.

This gives me very mixed feeling about yesterday's developments. In no way am I worried that Caylee will not see justice. That is as inevitable as the sunrise. CM plays to the cameras as much as his client, IMHO. The last thing this case needed was another fan of making the news. The good part is he is an experienced and known lawyer. If there is anyone on that team who is going to objectively assess the case and try to get the client to see reason, our hopes are better pinned on this guy then the others. If this post seems to lack me usual focus, mea culpa. 1st cigarette and coffee are yet to happen. House-sitting means smoking on the porch. It is a wee bit nippy here in SW Pennsylvania.

Yeah. I still think that CM's involvement in some way stems from AL, and her attempting to get someone on the defense to see reason. Her ultimate goal is not so much to aquit KC as to keep her off death row. AL and JB really have no capability to strike a good plea deal with the SA. AL is an outsider in many respects, and JB has burned way too many bridges on the prosecution side. I suspect that we will be seeing a greater stress on the fact that noone can prove the mechanism of death or rule out an accident, in order to negotiate a plea on something other than 1st degree murder or lwop.

.....last month (?) i believe it was, it was stated that the state had released docs/cd's to the defense.

..the reporter held up, on the air----the "list" of what was in those docs.

..i believe it was "the world according" that posted the list, YM's name was on there, linked to a transcript..

..not sure if that would be a depo, but it will be a "new" interview at minimum.

..whichever it is-----------THAT i'm anxious to see.

..oh, i realize now , that you're saying that mason "will ask the right questions" in depositions.

..i do agree there, but regardless of the question, and who asks it-------"the answer" will always be the same.

..i can't think of a possible question, that he could ask YM, YM answers truthfully------that could change anything ?

Prior to seeing him in court yesterday I've read totally favorable things about him all over the internet. Pretty much saying that "everyone likes him"..well I must be in the minority, I didn't like him one bit and I watched with open eyes. I found his "good ole' boy" attitude to be disgusting. KC better hope Andrea Lyon speaks more than this dude does or she is in TROUBLE. At least AL is "likeable" if you no nothing else about her.

  • #136
Does anyone think he would talk her into taking a plea at this late date??
Or do you think the SA would even consider it, considering all the evidence they have against her? My one thought is that , like so many other States, Florida has no $$ . .

...i'm right there with you "mommy"..

..he started with his "im holier than god " attitude, even BEFORE court convened!

..telling the court personnel, "THIS mic better NOT be on----------i can ASSURE you, if this mic is on once court starts.........!"

then court-------begins.

judge: yeah, deal with it for today, just hit the mic button....
..burn!

..he then goes on to tell the JUDGE, HOW this will go down.
..we'll do "this"-----in camera, we'll do "that"---in camera...

judge: thank you------no, we'll do this in open court.
..burn! #2...

5. She lied about working at Universal.

10. Now its not the Nanny, it might be, Kronk, Grund, Amy... and umm who else have they tried to pin this on???? Seems like if you dropped your child off with a nanny you would know who the nanny is, but they dont seem to know who she is... OH wait she is a 10 with brown hair, brown, eyes, drives a silver car has a sister name Samantha... Ummm Kronk, Grund, and Amy DO NOT FIT that discription.

and these are just a few, so yes the evidence is there........ and the jury will see that.

Sorry to be a little off topic with you. I believe after the Defense presents their case and after cross examination of all witnesses, I don't think the jury will buy any of the things you just said. That is just my opinion. I have discussed each and everyone of those points you made with many of the majority only to find that it just comes down to how you interpret the documents and your own opinion. It always boils down to the 31 days and at the end of the day, the 31 days has nothing to do with premeditated murder. IMO

It's impossible to see why any jury would not 'buy' those irrefutable, unambiguous points, not all of which 'boil down to the 31 days'. And it's increasingly difficult not to marvel at the patience of well-meaning people who keep calmly discussing such points with someone who apparently refuses to consider anything they have to say. Such insistent refusal hints at game-playing to me. IMO.

I had a feeling he was pretending he couldn't hear the questions so the reporters would feel foolish and inarticulate when they had to repeat them.

I noticed Mason did his "hard of hearing" shtick when Kathi B. asked her first question. Wonder if Baez had anything to do with that.

I was so pizzed that JS didn't repremand him for calling JA et al "ignorants" IF I were the judge I would have b**ch slapped him for that one. Better yet IF I were JA or LDB I would have stood up and objected to being called names. I only hopes he does that at trial, lets just see how the jury reacts to that. I wouldn't hire him to defend me for a traffic violation let alone murder.
