2010.04.15 Presser Video: Sheriff, Haleigh Likely Dead; POI Identified

  • #421
Can we at least get to the arrest part of the investigation without endlessly looping back to RC? He's in jail, he was just told his daughter was dead and his live-in's cousin did it. Maybe his expression wasn't smug. Maybe he was in shock and disgusted. I buried two parents without shedding a tear in public. Jackie Kennedy went through an assassination and a televised funeral. If he had cried and fallen down and beaten the ground, people would say RC was faking it. Perhaps it will turn out that RC was involved. But it looks, right now, to be about Misty, Tom and Joe. Can we just have a moratorium on nasty remarks about any of the parents? If they are both innocent, they are grieving right now. At least until we find out for sure who is and is not involved, based on what appears to be a successful investigation at this point? People can line up to throw the first stone at RC, his mother and his great-grandmother once they are arrested, if that happens. I think it's going to turn out that someone is a pedophile.

BBM
what am I missing here? Has this been confirmed?

It has been reported in a number of news articles that Ron was present with the rest of the family members when they were told that Haleigh is most likely deceased. I agree they are all probably in shock. The involvement of Misty's cousin has been implied by the renewed activity in Tenn and by his lawyering up.

You're right, pittsburghgirl. No matter what RC does or how he reacts, he's going to be judged and people are going to be critical. That's true for all of us. And it's also true that each of us react differently to things. I'm one of those that doesn't wear my heart of my sleeve. I don't show my emotions in public either. When I buried my child, there were some that misinterpreted and were critical of my outward appearance of strength. It was very hurtful. So I know what you're saying here.

However, RC is slap in the middle of the spotlight (and very possibly complicit) in the horrific murder of an innocent and beautiful child. Of course he's going to be under intense scrutiny and judgment by the public. He's not exactly shown himself to be the pillar of society or morality. People are outraged over this child's murder and they're going to call it as they see it and express their opinions regarding this whole cast of characters - the way they act, behave, appear, or what they eat for breakfast. I think as long as they respect the rules and guidelines of the forum, he's fair game for the comments. Being the parent doesn't make him exempt.

Respectfully..

Great comments once again Pittsburghgirl. People accept news or grieve in their own way and where Ron is concerned it's a damn if he does or damn if he doesn't type situation, he can't win. If he isn't directly involved in this mess, I'm sure he is feeling like he is to blame because he brought Misty into his children's lives just as I am sure that Crystal feels like she is to blame because she wasn't a better mother to Haleigh and didn't have custody of her because of her past problems. The point is this - this family is/was dysfunctional on all sides. If we are all going to bash Ron about bringing a young girl into his home to care for his children, I'm quite sure there are many of us here who have done the same thing. Yea, granted they probably weren't drug users (at least I hope they weren't) but I know myself that I have had young girls babysit my kids before so I can't necessarily blame him in that regard. It's obvious Misty is street years beyond what her actual age is and I'm not saying that she isn't to blame for what has happened because personally I have felt along that she was the reason that Haleigh died but given the way ALL of these people were raised, can you really blame her for turning out to be any different than she is? Personally, I don't think Misty, Tommy, Ron, Crystal, or anyone else associated with this case is completely 100% innocent in what happened to Haleigh. Unfortunately, I think it was a tragedy waiting to happen and it's just terrible that it happened to such a beautiful child.

I didn't get the impression that he denied it as much as downplayed it. Since the gun was found and returned, he may not have felt that it was such a big deal. Others may have categorized it as a "fight", but he clearly didn't.

His reputation has gotten blown way out of proportion. He is very typical of many young men of his age and demographic - no more, no less. Drinking, some drug use, swagger, big talk, bragging, some fighting, carousing, etc., are very common. Doesn't mean that respect for one's mother, children, church, & country aren't also common.

Also, statutory rape and drug trafficing

Innocent or not if I were Cousin Joe, I would git me a lawyer. I don't hold that against him at all.

I agree... I also think most of us have our own idea of who hurt haleigh.... So at some point everyone involved should get a lawyer....

I feel we're back to square 1 on what happened to Haleigh and who was involved. They're all blaming each other and covering for each other and leading LE on wild goose chases. Maybe LE did find some of Haleighs remains that proves she is deceased. But, solving how she died and how she ended up in the river and who is responsible looks to be impossible. Unless someone confesses....REMOTE possibility. Why would they? Reduce a drug charge for a murder charge? :innocent:

I have a question - which has probably already been answered...

Remember when the 'story of the day' (soup of the day!) was that RC called Tommy to check on MC at the trailer several times that night. Did we ever hear ANY confirmation of this from RC's cell phone records? Because, if this is verifiable, it would be a very different scenario than what MC is spewing about JO & Tommy showing up at the trailer for a gun and Tommy leaving BEFORE JO left with Haleigh...

I'm sorry, I just hope that LE is stringing MC along. Making her believe that they believe her story, meanwhile building a case against her. In the end, if little Haleigh is deceased, I pray that MC is solely involved and suffers the highest punishment allowable by law. I don't want to think of other possibilities that little Haleigh had to endure that night.

I have followed Hailey's case from the start and have never posted because this family drives me crazy- all of them!! They still do!!! But, this sweet child didn't deserve any of this!!! As Forrest Gump stated- That's all I'm going to say.

Be with the angels little one.

Somehow it has finally sunk into these people that there will be no 3 year sentence (Tommy) or there will be no boot camp (Misty), drug court(Misty) house arrests (Misty) or any of the other wild dreams they came up with in their conversations with the jailhouse lawyers. Each one is pointing at someone else but not including themselves.

They are all trying to get some kind of deal because their little "short time served" dreams have been dashed. No one has confessed to being directly involved in Haleigh's demise - they are all scrambling to appear cooperative with the hope that it might help reduce their sentences. Sheriff Hardy said today that to his knowledge, there are no deals on the table. They are all going down, they haven't figured that part out yet. Problem is, they routinely implicate themselves as from the beginning they all said they didn't know anything. Now they do ? BS.

I think there will be a deal coming out of this for somebody. It'll be one of the persons who didn't actually kill her but was involved in the cover-up. It'll probably go to the person who gives up the most confirmable information and gives it the fastest. JMO

Hopefully they are all scrambling like rats on a sinking ship to be the first one to get it.

I think Misty's story she told her grandma today came from something the police told her. I think they told her about the cinder block and rope.

Missed posting this in the now locked NG thread sooo I'll post here.

Watching the discussion I found one thing notable, it was case status from LE.

Until yesterday LE classified Haleigh as a missing person/abducted. If I remember correctly they labeled it with abduction because it allowed them to receive extra help from the FBI/CART team and an Amber Alert status which brought in an additional 100 FBI agents mostly to work on time-line issues, which incidentally has not been accounted for even today.

Today was the first time that status has changed to a homicide investigation per Sheriff Hardy.

This leads me to believe LE had no evidence Haleigh was harmed in the Mobile home. Something could have happened to her in the mobile home (theory) but I don't believe LE has that evidence. For some reason, things have changed.

LE also mentioned in the beginning they did it this way because they didn't know what crime/crimes had been committed.

Ron's lawyer - Terry Shoemaker confirmed this phone call on Nancy Grace one night. I can't remember the time frame but it would have been after Tommy made the admission he went over there and after Ron sat down with LE about his phone calls. That same show , Shoemaker confirmed Ron and Misty had a fight over the phone around 830 pm and that Ron made several calls to her afterwards - I believe he said 20 times. If I am thinking right this would have been in mid to late September.

I think the blood they found in the van tested to be Haleighs. I think they knew she was in that van and hurt. I think they found something at the river that allows them to say she is dead.

I don't know how a deal could be made - both Tommy and Misty have definitely been proven to be very much less than truthful. How could anyone ever take their word for anything ? The opposing lawyer would have a real field day exposing their history of deception in this case. I don't see it, and given their track record, a prosecutor would have to realize and weigh how much of a possibility exists that an innocent may be being tried based on the word of either of these two. Would you believe anything either one says ? Would you be willing to send someone to prison based on what either of these two have to say ? Not me, unless LE has some really good physical evidence, and I'm not convinced they do.

I agree, that's why I think it has to be confirmable. What is said has to be corroborated by evidence. Misty's history of story telling is gonna make it hard for her to be the one to get it, but she could if she can prove the things she tells them beyond a reasonable doubt. JMO

LE has something, no way are they going to mention the word POI unless they have something. But I don't get the feeling LE believes Misty is not involved in what happened to Haleigh. I get quite the opposite feeling actually. Misty can't un-ring the bells she has rung.

I think Misty got this whole ball rolling by coming forward. JMO
