2010.04.17 Shoemaker says Ron and families told to prepare for funeral

  • #341
I am not buying this quite yet. To me it sounds like the NG story has spread without much verification. The source was Ron's atty originally and even he didn't say last night that the word "funeral" had been used by LE. He wasn't at the meeting and didn't even know if Ron was in the same room with the family, so his source must be Ron.

I keep wondering if maybe they found Haleighs nebulizer in the river during their search. Do you all remember when TN made the comment about it missing and then we never heard anything more ?

Maybe she didn't "get proof"...because she knows already and she's spinning.

Anything is possible in this case !!!

Guess Ron didn't need or want any proof at all seeing as he is prepared to make plans for a funeral.

Kinda makes one want booze in the morning before attempting to catch up on the threads don't it??????

Forget about who was told to plan a funeral. What did they find that suddenly changed this investigation from a missing person to a homicide? Has to be some kind of evidence, wouldn't you think?
Maybe Ron was told to start making plans for his own funeral. (kidding!)

I would think it would have to be something that they can get DNA from.......because if they are just going on he said she said, this case is in trouble.

1) did LE find a body? Perhaps, or part thereof. There was an anthropology forensics van on scene at the search. Some surmise this means they found a body or bones etc. I say, the forensic van being there does not necessarily mean that. If you are searching a body of water where alligators and other predators are known to be on occassion, you are going to find bits of bones etc. Whether they are human or not would need to be determined by experts, hence their presence on the scene.

2) Did LE find yellow rope and cinder blocks and if so what, if anything does that mean? I imagine they may have found cinder blocks. They are very common to the area and boaters often use them as "poor man's anchor" among other things. Yellow nylon rope, also very common to find rope in and around the water at a boat launching area. Could mean something, could mean nothing.

3) Did LE tell family "plan a funeral"? Lets review what LE has actually said. They announced in presser they are now treating Haleigh's disappearance as a homicide. They have not found a body. The search was innitiated due to credible tips received from unnamed source.

We have only the attorney shoemaker's words that say the family was told to plan a funeral. LE may well have said somethign to the effect of "we believe there is no hope of finding haleigh alive. We feel strongly that she is dead. We are changing the focus of our invistigation, and will be treating this matter as a homicide and not a missing person from here on out. If you (the family) would like, we feel it is safe to have a service for Haleigh and say your goodbyes.

Words are very tricky little buggers. One man's service is another mans funeral is another man's wake. Without an offical statement from LE we have no idea exactly what words were used in that secret meeting with family. People paraphrase, people pass on their own interpretations or comments, rarely do people use direct quotes from telling to telling.

I for one will be very interested to see what eventually comes out as LE builds their case, and I do think they are building their case. What is the biggest unknown in this whole thing is - building aa case against who and how strong a case will it be?

Great post TL, but now we have 2 sources talking about the funeral. Shoemaker and Ann Dugger, with the Justice Coalition. I think the more people that are saying this, the more the possibility is of it being true.

Yes, but is Ann Dugger speaking about Haleigh's funeral, or Justice Coalition assistance in general? At this juncture, I'm not trusting this article... or Shoey.

Yes, but again, what is the original source and is it a direct quote or is it interpretation of statement made?

Don't get me wrong, I believe they found something, I am leaning towards the belief that they found some sort of remains, but I just know how distorted things can become when you are playing the grown up version of the game "telephone"

Doc...I do not know for sure, but my thinking is that they have reporters everywhere right now.....

Given how hot this case has become in the last two weeks, I'll bet you can't take a step in that town without tripping on a reporter, grip, cameraman and newsvan.

I think at this point LE would have nipped this rumor in the bud if thats what it is. Imo only I think LE would have given Shoey a call and we would have seen a redaction of his statement.
Then again I could be totally wrong and LE is having Crystal and them play along with it all if it meant Ron was involved. I'm sure if it wasn't true and Ron told his attorney this it prob. just tighten up a little more for LE in info they are searching for.

I just can't see them letting the public be led on about it for that matter Crystal either I think her attorney would have nipped it as well....jmo

LE is not going to tell us if Haleighs body has been found at this point in the game so any article written on the subject is purley speculating at this point. They have found something though, something of signifigance.

I suspect GGma Sykes better portrays what was said in the meeting than Shoemaker and she doesn't seem to be thinking about a funeral in the article posted here:

2010.04.16 - Annette Sykes(Great Grandmother) believes Haleigh is alive. - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Tells me LE didn't tell the family anything about finding a body or remains, or planning a funeral, only that LE now considers it a homicide instead of a missing person. A change in the investigation approach and terminology. I don't fault GGma Sykes for expressing her thoughts on this, one has to have hope, and before giving up, proof. I don't get the feel she got any sort of proof during that meeting.

Well GGMS said they needed to show her proof. They could have told the family they found probable remains but AS wasn't actually shown those so to her Haleigh is still alive until she can see those. I have no idea... just a thought.
