That just strikes me as odd as hello..........why would either of them be in such a hurry to have her declared dead when the case is NOT solved yet? What has LE got that proves to them she's dead? If they have bones, no need to have her declared.........WTHHHHHHHH????????????????

I'm wondering if Merchant's little talk with Ron about funerals and declaration isn't a head game on Ron, kinda like leaving deer bones drying in the sun along a dock down which one walks the "key".

What would be accomplished by having Haleigh declared dead at this time? Since Crystal has custody of Jr. and ron is in jail and I assume not paying support, and I am also assuming support for Haleigh has been put on hold for
Crystal - there is not a support issue. Just a piece of paper saying it is so without a confession, body or conviction will not change what is in their heart.

But, :furious: I hope LE is not saying these things to just watch reactions to their remarks, that's cruel.

Since when is LE in the habit of telling people to plan funerals? That is just not their place to do, no family is required to EVER have a funeral. They have done numerous vigils and remembrance services, so any kind or quiet memorial at any time would be perfectly appropriate. Any "pushing" them toward a funeral would have to be a pressure tactic of some kind on someone who was being told to do this. AFAIK-----the only person that might have been would be RC, because neither MC or TC were included in that meeting.

Several things I noticed here..

She is bio moms attorney, and she makes it clear it is a homicide investigation.
Where as LE just said: That he felt comfortable calling it a homicide investigation.

Also..The atty for bio mom, only states that Funeral Arrangements have not been made, nor are they being made at this time..

However, She continues by saying:That The parents have spoken to each other regarding the above etc...

So they have discussed a Funeral , but have decided to not make any arrangements as of yet??

According to Merchant he presented two options to parents Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield about a funeral for Haleigh:

The couple could wait seven years for Haleigh to be declared dead by the state of Florida and then be issued a death certificate or they can go before a judge before the seven years lapses to request a death certificate.

odd is not the word, thecloser! i cant imagine any parents trying to have their missing child declared dead under these circumstances. unless they have more evidence than we know about or unless one of the parents knows the child is gone. jmo i dont think cs will allow it.

Of all the things that letter states.....the thing that sticks out to me the most, is the fact that the attorney for Crystal called it a "homicide investigation". So LE is 100% sure she's dead, but no one (accept maybe Crystal, Ron, and a selected few) knows why they are so certain she's deceased.

Could this funeral business all boil down to LE telling the family that now, since there has been somewhat of a disclosure that Haleigh was murdered or dead, that they are going to start charging one or several with murder? LE is probably about done with dealing with these lying dope dealers and ready to file charges. If they are, maybe they called the family in to tell them that they are considering Haleigh murdered and just telling the family what their options are ?? Ask for a declaration of death now, wait the 7 years, and have a memorial if they wish..I still can't understand why they'd do anything without some proof of death though, like a lot of blood, a bone, decomp hairs, fluids, something!

Haleigh's mother claimed to have purchased a whole-life insurance policy for her and the children. However, investigators said they have no information about the policy.

Egads! The media makes me so mad sometimes!! After reading mournfully though 5 pages of this thread I find out the story was not true to begin. If I feel this way what must the family think and feel!

Thank you for taking the time to understand how all this miss information and sensationalism has hurt the family. You have no idea. Just the factual information on the case is tragic but to add all the untruths and spread it everywhere is so unkind. Also pulls the PCSO away from their jobs answering these unnecessary phone calls with all the unnecessary questions.

Even when a press release corrects, Bones and Funeral, there are those that would rather keep it all going. Sad.
