2010.04.20 - Funeral plans?

  • #161
Haleigh’s mother, Crystal Sheffield, also issued a statement through her attorney that no funeral arrangements are in the process of being made. That, too, had been inaccurately reported by some of these outlets.

Sheffield, 24, said she has been in contact with Haleigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, about what they want to do now that Sheriff Jeff Hardy has conceded their daughter is being treated as a homicide victim. Cummings, 26, remains in jail on prescription drug charges in the same case as Croslin and her brother Hank “Tommy” Croslin Jr., 23.

Mea culpa...Mea culpa.... Mea maxima culpa...

Ron and Crystal met today. I wish people could get along on their behalf since they obviously have got beyond this for their daughter. Law Enforcement told him to plan a funeral. They decided to have her declared dead and it sounds like they decided Crystal will handle the funeral, I am sure with his and his families input. And I doubt Shoemakers comment was BS because Marie was very upset and posted on her Facebook. But it looks like Ron and Crystal worked it out. When they met.

PCSO did not tell Ronald to prepare for a funeral. YOU WILL FIND THIS STATEMENT ON PAGE 2 OF THIS ARTICLE.

Crystal is not planning a funeral. There were no plans for a funeral that needed to be worked out.

According to Merchant he presented two options to parents Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield about a funeral for Haleigh:

The couple could wait seven years for Haleigh to be declared dead by the state of Florida and then be issued a death certificate or they can go before a judge before the seven years lapses to request a death certificate.

odd is not the word, thecloser! i cant imagine any parents trying to have their missing child declared dead under these circumstances. unless they have more evidence than we know about or unless one of the parents knows the child is gone. jmo i dont think cs will allow it.

could you give me a link on the information from Merchant?

Forgive me if this is somewhere in the thread but where did you hear this? Last I heard the family was told to prepare for a funeral. Did I miss a retraction?

this is the statement made today
But, he said, officials also have not told family members to "prepare for a funeral."

Various news reports have said Haleigh's family were told to make funeral arrangements.

"We would never tell them something as cold-hearted as prepare for a funeral," he said, adding that the family would be told if the girl were found.

"Detective John Merchant, the lead investigator in the Haleigh Cummings homicide case, says police need to build a strong case without a body."

http://nancygrace.blogs.cnn.com/2010...s-find-a-body/

I'm thinking LE knows a body or remains will NEVER be recovered...

And IMHO.. I think LE needs to start an investigation as to WHY they believe this to be the case.. One thing for certain the Croslins are not the masterminds behind the reason Haleigh's remains can't be located....IMHO..I suggest they start looking at the family who just may have some connections ...Just my opinion...

I think LE knows it will take divine intervention to discover Haleigh's remains because none of these yahoos is ever going to tell the truth about what happened or where Haleigh is because none of them are ever going to take responsibility, all they know is to lie and point away from themselves. These comments also make me think that LE is being very honest in saying they did not recover Haleigh at the Shell Harbor boat ramp, nor in the woods around it. LE has been lied to yet again.

Well hopefully the truth will be revealed, however I am not convinced the players have all the information needed to tell where Haleigh is... I'm not even certain Misty knows where Haleigh was taken.....JMO

SNIPPED

Asked how officers reached the decision that this was now a homicide case, Bowling said, "It's a lot of information over the last few weeks. None of us believe we are looking for an alive child anymore."

But, he said, officials also have not told family members to "prepare for a funeral."

Various news reports have said Haleigh's family were told to make funeral arrangements.

Thank you so much for this link :) I am glad LE came out and has nipped this in the bud.

I want to know where everyone's "sources" are coming from about the funeral and bones? Swearing all is true..... :snooty: Oh thats right Ron's lawyer I believe started the funeral rumor. Now thats one to ponder.....

Just a thought. Sometimes you have to read between the lines. Nowhere in this press release does it say Crystal was NOT told to prepare for a funeral. All she is doing is denying there is a plan for the funeral.

That being said who knows what is the truth and what is being floated out there for ratings, reactions, confessions, anymore.

I think the funeral rumor is just that. Rumor. Not true. How it got started for sure who knows?

There is one thing I know for sure, Haleigh is dead and Misty knows more. That's it. Other than those two things I can't keep track of all the "facts" that are not facts at all. In fact my 2 "facts" have not been proven yet but common sense says they are true.

  • #175
All I can say is funeral or no funeral, it's the family that has to deal with either outcome. Can't imagine their disappointment if there's not enough evidence to bring charges, or there is enough evidence to bring charges. I don't think I'm going to meddle in that one out of respect for the family.

amen .. i am confused by all this too bc of the way they were crying when they came out of the jail .. crystals face her moms face .. i feel so badly that a beautiful child had pay with her life because all the adults didnt love her enough to step up and admit what happened . i think thats what is bothering me the most .. how can they do this to her or her memory . did she not mean anything ??? it makes me so sick inside

Wouldn't Shoemaker, a member of Florida bar to practice law, wouldn't he be in some deep doodoo for publicly spreading a blatant lie, especially a lie concerning Florida's LE?? I would certainly believe this would be a HUGE violation of the Florida bar if Shoemaker was to continue publicly stating blatant lies per Florida LE on any and all media outlets willing to listen. Since I believe if that were the case that he would have already been somehow reprimanded, atleast to the extent of being advised to NOT CONTINUE stating such a lie against LE, but as we've seen he is still presently claiming that this is what RC was told by LE and in the last 24hrs has added to THAT statement by now saying that LE has allowed Crystal to meet with RC to discuss the funeral arrangements for their child. This is ONE that I dont think that the media has created for sensationalism for the sole reason of it continuing to come from an actively practicing lawyer and member of Florida's bar.

I honestly have no idea, but the statement didn't say exactly what the two met for. We can only speculate, sure we have AH and NG telling us what they talked about, but ...........................

We have some media sources saying one thing and other media sources stating another. As far as Shoemaker STILL saying this, I haven't seen any (more)recent reports regarding the matter, last I saw he was "unavailable for comment".

What about the family being given options on how to declare a person legally dead? Is that true or not?

TERRY SHOEMAKER, ATTORNEY FOR RONALD CUMMINGS: "Last Tuesday they brought the family members into the sheriff`s office, not only Ronald but Ronald`s mother. And also, Crystal Sheffield was brought into the same location. They all discussed what turns had taken place in the investigation. They told them that it was now a homicide investigation and no longer a missing persons, and that they would have enough to go forward if they wanted to make funeral arrangements."
