2010.07.01 Cheney Takes on Another Major Case - Jim Greer

Well if I am understanding correctly, she says that she is working pro bono for KC (around the 7:40 mark)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUY9h0ZnKZA&feature=related

I'll admit it, I don't know what this defense is up to. They are either sneaky & sly or (hard to imagine) or thicker than a fence post. I agree with those that think we won't have to wait long to find out though.

I have gotten the impression that CM doesn't really care for KC and we all know KC doesn't care for any man she can't manipulate, so....I wouldn't be surprised if he bailed.

JMHO

MOO
Oh, I know she's pro bono...so was AL IIRC. And they talked about reimbursing her, no? I think this band of merry men (and women) aren't so merry anymore.

I think jb spends his nights twitching randomly, chewing his pillow, wondering what on earth he's managed to get himself into.

That might be true be he never loses that smirk in court. I want to slap it right off of his face. Any jury is going to hate that.

It appears Mr Cheney needs the money, he really really does LOL. In a newspiece dated 07/01/2010 we know why........

Man Wants Attorney to Cough Up the $1M

By JACQUELINE J. HOLNESS

clock-bkwd.jpg
ATLANTA (CN) - A lawyer who told NBC's "Dateline" he would pay $1 million to anyone who could make it from the Atlanta airport to a La Quinta Inn in 28 minutes - as his client was accused of doing in a capital murder case - refused to pay a man who took him up on it, the man claims in Federal Court. Dustin S. Kolodziej claims he accepted attorney James Cheney Mason's challenge, made his deadline, and now he wants the $1 million.

much more at link :) http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/07/01/28532.htm

He spouted off on Dateline and the guy did it. Cheney should have to pay the man exactly what he promised in front of the whole nation. I really hope the man wins.

Maybe CM feels "Hey, Jose, you've already been paid for the work....get busy." If SA has, say just an estimate, 1,000 pieces of evidence that point to KC how will JB or CM ever convince a jury it's just a coincidence or it could have been someone else. There is just way too much there that points directly to KC. So if the judge tells JB he has to go to MN's office and look through all those files and tab the ones they would like to look into is JB planning on doing that alone? jmo

That would be scary....if jb can't get someone within his office to read those letters that recently came out & determine the only ones that could mean something are the family letters (and now we see why he didn't like her getting any letters from them!--why he discouraged their writting and exchanging letters)--& think that he needed major time to review them....Lord help us with what he thinks is in the TES files....Think what it is coming to is jb is going to finally have to be a lawyer instead of parade around playing one in name only....:waitasec::twocents:

okay now for my other comment---Thank God that AL did most of the dp work before she left....:innocent::banghead:

I was stunned when I heard CM was taking on the Greer case, and more when I heard a few snippets on local radio this morning about how he was going to be subpoena-ing (oops!) everyone from Gov Christ, the AG Mccollum, Dean Cannon and Mike Haridopolous. Incredible!
The defense team is falling apart very quickly and I cannot see HHJP letting JB run the case without a real attorney at his side. Leaves the "ineffectiveness of counsel" a very viable appeal.
I am gobsmacked. I cannot imagine what all this is for, unless as previous posters mentioned, a plea is coming.

:waitasec: I think Mason has represented him in the past, but I'm not so sure that he still does. I saw this story yesterday: http://www.wesh.com/news/24372410/detail.html

<snipped>
Attorney Cheney Mason had represented Zogaib in a previous case but did not know if Zogaib currently had a lawyer.

an attorney can not quit a case without petitioning the court. maybe cheney is looking for a good excuse that he can use to quit. the court will then appoint a dp attorney in his place. hopefully it will not cause the trial to drag on.

Will Greer's lawyer be political party pooper?

He plans to put Florida Republican Party on trial, announcing this week that he basically will burn the party to the ground if that's what it takes save his client.

But regardless of Greer's guilt, Mason is a master of reasonable doubt.

This convinces me even more that the Defense in Inmate Anthony's case is going to use George for "reasonable doubt". George has more of a connection than Kronk ever had, and I believe the Defense is going to bring out very bad evidence about what George has been involved with.

I really hope Judge Perry wouldn't allow him to drop out because he was foolish enough to overload his schedule after he took on KC's case.

From what I have seen of CM's actions so far in the court room, he doesn't appear to be a master of anything but confusion and vulgar comments. Maybe the reporter meant to say, "He was a master of reasonable doubt".

Feds to seek forfeiture of planes, trucks and cash linked to 800 pounds of marijuana at Umatilla airport
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/crime/os-airport-pot-bust-high-profile-lawy20101001,0,3145731.story

<snipped>

TAVARES — As authorities trumpeted arrests in the largest pot bust in Lake County in five years, investigators said they would seek forfeitures of two planes, three pickup trucks and $30,000 confiscated by deputy sheriffs who found nearly 800 pounds of marijuana at the Umatilla airport.

The case is notable in another respect: Two of the suspects have hired high-profile lawyers, Cheney Mason, a member of Casey Anthony's defense team, and Donald Lykkebak, who defended lovesick astronaut Lisa Nowak.

Well...he's done it again.
aktion.gif

I know the man has to pay the bills, he's not getting rich on this case and I'm well-versed in having several cases going on at the same time. However, this isn't Cheney Mason's first rodeo...he knew exactly what he was getting into when he signed on to rep Casey. In my humble (and probably biased opinion ;) ), this is about ego, not money. Since he announced his desire to retire he has taken on 3 major, high-profile cases and quips at least twice daily, "I'm too old for..... *insert whining cliche*".

I don't care if he is planning on dragging out the other cases. This is insane, imo. He is lead counsel (DP qualified) and they are literally drowning in discovery v. deadlines. After the deadlines, we'll start seeing evidentiary hearings on pre-trial motions to suppress (exclude evidence) among others. I anticipate a few of those to be humdingers. That means hours of legal research and more hours of writing. Their client is facing the death penalty. Just as concerning - I guarantee that there are many posters here who have studied the facts & evidence, reviewed discovery, listened to the interviews, watched the videos, etc of this case and understand it in far more depth than Mason. And it doesn't appear he has made much effort to familarize himself with the many of the most basic facts. I find this worrisome. Simply put, the SA v. Casey Anthony has to be priority #1 - there is a massive amount of work to do in a short amount of time. He is going to be a very busy man.

Sorry for the rant. :blushing: I just don't get it.

Pretty interesting how he just keeps on loading the cases on. As it is now...I can't hardly understand what he is saying at the hearings. I wonder if he does that on purpose or if he is just old and senile now. I don't see how he is going to keep up with 3-4 big cases going on at the same time. They aren't getting things done for Casey's trial...what is he doing on the others? Is that where his time is going? There are enough attorneys on Caseys team to where it shouldn't be a problem getting things done right on time yet it never happens. I don't know if Baez and Mason are playing games or what. I do think that Mason is biting off more then he can chew but then maybe that is the fun of it for him. I would like to know how much time he is able to devote to each of these cases as time goes by and trial dates get closer. Someone or more are going to get short changed.

Maybe this should be on the coinkydink thread but...

http://www.superlawyers.com/florida/article/Donald-Lykkebaks-High-Flying-Career-/830a075b-7aa4-440b-aa8f-12e52ba630ba.html

The Nowak case is the epitome of fun, says Mason, who is assisting on the case.

BTW...Marti Mackenzie was Nowaks PR spin doctor too.

So.......good ole boy Mason thought the Nowak trial was fun and thinks the KC case is fun.

Wonder if he'll find his latest cases fun as well?????

However, fun ends when you may have to work a Saturday---doing a depo that should have been done 12 months prior......thought he was going to really blow a gasket when HHJP suggested Saturday and that he might be inconvenienced----who cares about all the inconveniences he client caused....:furious:

So does Mason take on cases based on a FUN meter?..
wouldn't want a case that is a "challenge" or "intriguing" that would not be Fun for him.
