Misty should not have gotten more than Ron. I am really disenchanted with this whole system at the moment. Perfect Ron. Married a minor, had a minor taking care of his kids, priors, and gets 15.

The drug charges are the ONLY thing that should have been considered. It doesn't seem like that is the case. I am not saying Misty should not have gotten a sentence; I am saying the law is quite clearly not applied equally, thus unfairly.

My opinion. Respecting and listening to everyone else's too.

Yes I agree, Misty should not have gotten more time than Ron. But for that to happen, Ron should not have had charges dropped...or Misty should have had dropped or reduced charges. That is where the inequity lies because the sentencing was not biased at all for these two...Ron and Misty each got their mandatory minimum.

What?? MC's age is unknown? splain please. tia
I kind of took that to mean that Lisa was such a slave to drugs, that she didn't know 1 day from the next...so Misty's birthday could've come & gone, & she wouldn't have realized it. so sad for the birthday girl. But, Lisa might have meant exactly what she said! If nothing else, surely she would've heard her age on the news. This one floors me, folks, & I thought I was done being surprised by the Croslins.

What leads you to believe this, if I may ask?

Why would HaLeigh's father cover for her? Marry her? Why has he continually lied; from the 911 call forward? What explains the actions and words of HaLeigh's father, paternal grandmotrher, Teresa, and paternal great-grandmother, Annette?

This is not meant to sound rude and I apologize if it comes across as accusatory.

This is a very sad day, when a grown man, with a criminal history and a suspect in the disappearance of his own child receives 10 years LESS than a young woman who was made his wife a month after his daughter vanished. It is almost too much to believe. I hope some wonderful lawyer will step in now and help her.

My questions and my opinions.

Seriously... the girl needs a good lawyer...I am missing the reasoning for what happened today, and I'm no law crow, but it just seemed, uh... lax.

wow...wow...that is Lisa?? When did she get the makeover?? I never would have recognized her! And GM Hollar...thanks a lot, granny. She thinks 25 years is just right.

I would like to hear from Crystal.
I don't understand why she would be upset.
I would think she would be happy Misty got 25 yrs.
What am I missing?
This case is such a mess!

Thank you, krkrjx. That puts it in a better perspective, in that the sentencing was not the bias.

Okay so this report says Fields argued in court that Misty was set up by detectives due to the Haleigh case. And so, it seems, Misty didn't pull that particular complaint out of her own arse.

Lisa - nice haircut/color/clothes. Lisa has a guardian angel out there somewhere.

Flo has another great soundbite here.

Lisa testified to Misty's being raped several times...

Good grief. I hope the court transcripts come out soon.

You know what we need? A good ol' jailhouse phone call. Haven't had one of those in a while.

Chelsea spoke to Misty recently and she said maybe Jane Velez can pull that tape for us but nothing so far.

<snipped>

CHELSEA CROSLIN: Well on this last phone call you know I have always tried to keep the peace with the Cummings family honestly because especially when I heard there was a funeral for HaLeigh that’s something that would kill me to not have the closure, for me or my family to not be able to attend the funeral so I have always just kind of wanted to just kiss butt with them. Now I am at the point where I just don’t care. So when I was speaking with Misty on the phone the other day and I was asking her everything about the family, it was more Ronald that I was trying to get out of her and it was more granny and Teresa that she was giving me. I don’t want to sound like a dummy or anything but I honestly wasn’t really listening to every detail that Misty had said to me because I wanted to ask so many questions and I figured at least the Police on the other end could listen to the answers so maybe Jane Velez can pull that tape for us because I am pretty sure it was a good one.

The press-reported reactions from the family at these hearings/sentencings have been very confusing, IMO.

Just a guess on this one -

Perhaps Crystal feels overwhelmed that Misty would rather accept 25 years - and no deal - than to cooperate with regard to info about Haleigh. She might yearn to know the truth, and to put Haleigh to rest more than she yearns for Misty to get a harsh sentence. She might be thinking that for Misty to remain silent means there must be some truth somewhere to all of the horrible stories about Haleigh's death that were circulating in Flo's head ... She might be thinking that as long as there is silence and no evidence, Haleigh's justice will be elusive.

Reporters stated Crystal was also upset at Ron's trial. One report said she was upset the sentence was for only 15 years - too short. One report said she was upset the sentence was so harsh.

I too would like for Crystal to do an interview when she's ready, and tell us all how she's doing, how Junior's doing, and how she feels about what's happened with these drug trials. If Crystal can't do it, I wish Marie would.

I found the report regarding Teresa & Marie hugging at Tommy's hearing to also be curious...

all :cow: & JMHO

I hope someday we'll find out what Ronald gave up to LE about Haleigh to get those charges dropped.

With Ronald being treated like a poor, grieving father being dragged into drug dealing by big, bad Misty....and, Misty getting 25 years....I think the case of missing Haleigh is over. Ronald has told whatever he told LE. They, no doubt, believe him. So, no matter what anyone else says now...if it differs from dear Ronald, LE will ignore them.

Ronald has always been more important than Haleigh to TN, GGMS, Misty, and seemingly, LE, SA, DA, judge.....

I think you have pretty much accurately described the entire screwed up cluster. It is a bit frightening to me that an American citizen who is guarranteed that if charged with a crime that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty can be sentenced based upon personal opinion for a crime that they have not even been charged. I'm all for finding Haleigh. I want the one responsible to hang. But, this was supposedly about the drug dealing and nothing else, RIGHTTTTTTT! We all know that that is a bunch of ........ This sentencing was all about the Haleigh case and not much else. Someone who has not been even named a suspect and not charged with a crime involving the death of Haleigh has been sentenced more than most murderers who have been tried and convicted. There are some waving flags shouting, "Oh but Misty lied". Well the last time I looked you don't get 25 years for lying. Some are celebrating....Why? How can anyone celebrate when an 18 yr. old girl who sold pills (under the direction of Ron Cummings IMO) is sentenced to 25 years in prison? What is there to celebrate? Now, if she had been charged and convicted of accomplice in the death of Haleigh Cummings, then I would be celebrating myself. But she wasn't. What if your teenage daughter was sentenced to 25 years in prison for selling prescription pills? This sounds like a "Midnight Express" part II.

Wow. I did NOT recognize Lisa. She looked really good today! And Flo? Well... NEXT TIME?!!!! eesh. I wanna go hug Crystal. :(

I agree to a point and yet I disagree. RC has a previous record as long as your arm and she had none. RC was sentenced on more than one charge, after 3 other charges were dropped and his sentence is to be served concurrently on the remaining 2. MC was sentenced for one charge and got 10 more years than he did? Where's the justice in the minimum mandatory in Misty's case compared to RC? I believe that this just another step in their strategy to get MC to tell the absolute truth before they take her away for the rest of her life. I don't think she believed in her heart that they would give her 25 yrs. today. She's got all the classic heart scars for all of what she's lived in her 18 yrs. but, I don't think she was prepared for what she got. She's probably in shock tonight. I can only hope her attorney will try to advise her to do SOMETHING that could change this sentence. According to the panel on JVM tonight, that's a possibility.

Someone asked earlier in the thread why the change of heart toward Misty. IMO, when we met her at 17 yrs. old through this case, she was a minor that ended up married to Haleigh's father within weeks after Haleigh disappeared. This man (RC) did not have the normal demeanor of a father who has a child missing from 48 hours out commencing on Feb. 9th, 2009. He lawyered up very quickly and quit talking to LE. Got his tattoo and went on a NY honeymoon. Wherever you see him walking and Misty was with him, she was always behind him......following.....and she followed him all the way to jail. Maybe the shock of what she received today will give her pause to see the reality of what the truth could mean to both her and Haleigh. There's no doubt in my mind now that she walked into this mess and was left to clean it up. This is the end result.

Now, I wanna say something and I hope I get it across without sounding accusatory or misinformed. lol Let me start off with I like defense attorneys. My cousin is one, JAG turned public defender. He's a good guy. I like defense attorneys because if there weren't defense attorneys, there would be no prosecuting attorneys. Kind of a yin/yang thing.

Now... bear with me and hopefully I say this right. lol Do you think Fields is an ethical attorney? Did he do right by his client or right by the system? Does that make sense?? I'm not accusing, and I'm trying to ask as I may have had some enlightenment as to what Fields's stance was today. Been thinking and I may have an idea. Do I make sense??

Could you reiterate a little more on that? What has he done or not done that ethics enters into the equation?

I think she did. She killed Haleigh in a rage, coming down from a weekend high, in a bad hang over, and in withdrawal. Why would she protect anyone, but herself?

IMO, she wouldn't. The only one she would protect at all cost is herself and that is what she has consistently done from the beginning.

IMO

You are right! The judge has essestially blamed Misty (and tried her, IMO) for Haleigh's demise, without Misty even being charged for Haleigh's death. Granny probably winked at the judge as soon as he gave the sentence.

MISTY is the one that did the "oh poor me...I'm here because of Haleigh" thing. The judge just set her straight: Nope, Misty, THEY are here because of Haleigh. YOU are here because you sold drugs. He was not blaming her for anything regarding Haleigh. Quite the contrary. He was telling her this trial had nothing to do with Haleigh.

I agree with you completely. I fully expected the long sentence, although I don't think she did. I think she is getting poked because she's the "key." I don't agree with the sentence, but that's what I expected. :(

BBM Well I think we all knew from the "get" that was the case. That is the sole reason they were all stung, to exert pressure. Fat lotta good it's done us so far tho.
