<<HICKORY, N.C. (CBS/WBTV/AP) Police have confirmed that the prosthetic leg discovered last Wednesday in western North Carolina is the one belonging to 10-year-old Zahra Baker, who has been missing for weeks.

The Hickory Police Department said on Monday that medical records obtained from Australia, where the prosthetic leg was originally fitted, matched the serial number on the leg.

According to CBS affiliate WBTV, A scanner was used to extract the serial number from a transponder placed inside the prosthesis, which was used as Zahra's left leg.>>

Just want to add that the date the prosthetic leg was found was October 27, 2010.

Oct. 27: Police announce that a prosthetic leg was found in a rural area off Christie Road in Caldwell County.

Nov. 1: Police confirm the prosthetic leg found on Oct. 27 is Zahra's. They matched its serial number to the number on medical records that detectives collected from Zahra's native Australia.

Any word on what condition this leg was found in? Was it burned? Also, do we know how it got there?
