2011.02.18 Depo: Tony Lazzarro - depo linked on pg. 5

I do notice in the questioning Baez keeps referring to YOU as in Tony.
Did you go to the gas station to get gas
What did you go to the shed for
Did you break the lock

Tony's replies are She or We

Tony to Baez
"I wanted to help law enforcement because at the time, even now I just, I thought that was the right thing to do"

I thought Tony came to Orlando for the depo but it was conducted via WebEx..maybe Mason was having a hard time hearing...or was bored with Jose's line of questioning
I read the depo was only about 1 hour long...

AZLawyer shed some light on this in another thread.
Mason may have been frustrated with Baez because TonyL was already on record saying that he never smelled any odor coming from the trunk. And now Baez was giving him a chance to change that testimony by asking him the same thing again. So Mason yelled 'JOSE'--which stopped the questioning. After they came back on record Jose changed his question.

I agree with the above posts---as a gf, she was a dream come true. She had a full time job, was a Valencia college student, a single mother, and still she found the time to clean his apartment, cook his dinner, do the booga-loo, and help him with his club promotion at night. What an amazing woman, eh?

Yep, sounds too good to be true. Oh wait, it wasn't true.

Deep, deep, deep inside KC was upset. She even had a bad dream. That happens when you dump your dead child in trash bags by the side of the road, and then go try to forget it.

Chiquita71, I agree, the Defense better watch out for the backfire. For every good thing TonyL says about his time with KC, there's the unspoken Caylee side I hear in my head. KC was biding time while Caylee was decomposing. KC was doing everything in her power to hide her crime. I don't feel pity for KC if she had a bad dream.

I'd avoid talking about popsicles if I were DT. Fireworks and popsicles bring to mind a special treat for children. Ah, but Caylee was gone and it was such a sorrowful time. Right KC?

I think AL was more of a "home away from home" for ICA, and she performed for him just as she performed for all thew other males in her life. She was like a chameleon, and adapted to situations/surroundings when she wanted to "be somebody" to "someone".
I doubt that AL regarded ICA as worthy of a long-time committment...she was useful at times. ICA understood being useful, when Caylee was no longer useful she eliminated her. I don't believe that AL really entered into ICA's conscious decision that the time had come to remove Caylee permanently. I believe ICA was furious with CA, and took away CA's prized doll. AL really hadn't spent much time to pronounce that ICA was a good mother to Caylee. To him, there was no yelling or hitting, so that equalled "good". ICA proved that she wasn't a good mother afterall.

As I breezed through the depo earlier I snipped a few comments that got my attention....

I will have to go through it again later but from a first glance these are things that stood out to me. They may be out of order, but they are all from the depo released today.

In this Tony discusses that his memory on certain things would have been better right after all of this happened as opposed to (I assume) nearly 3 years later.

The reason this stuck out is because in one of the AL lectures she discussed how too much time elapsing between the crime and a depo can help the juror take testimony with a grain of salt. Kind of like...how did they remember that detail and not this one?

IMO Tony was well prepared by his attorney and he answered in a manner that did not allow JB to "exploit" his recall.

IMO JB intentionally held off on certain depos as "strategy".

leormedia.PNG
In this one...JB implies that with all the media attention it would be understandable for him to confuse facts that he has heard as coming from the media or LE. The reason this struck me was because IIRC, just this week there was an article about coverage of jury selection and how jurors can confuse media facts with actual facts.

I have a few more but will do in next post.

The next one that caught my attention was

memory.PNG
JB is getting on the record that certain factors such as the chaos of July 15 and on affected tony's memory.

mediasales.PNG
JB asked whether Tony had given any media interviews and if he had sold any pictures to the media. The next snip shows where he asked Tony if he had profited from the media in the case.

profitinthemedia.PNG

The reason that caught my eye is because Ricardo is known to have sold pics to Globe, Kio Marie gave an interview for $$ and so did others. Tony speaks of KC fondly and IMO JB will use him as far as he can go.

Tony has excellent representation! He needed it in a case like this.

searchtheapt.PNG
there had been speculation that Tony's apt had not been searched appropriately. Suggested continually by somebody....hmmmmmmmmm....who was that.......

Anyway, we see it was indeed searched.

Lastly...
car.PNG
Apparently Tony's car was checked with cadaver dogs. I must have missed this tidbit. I found interesting, the line of questioning. I now understand the questioning about the other car from the Frye hearing.

It just occurred to me - we assume ICA had a bad dream about killing Caylee and how bad that was - maybe she actually had a dream that she killed her but she kept coming back and just wouldn't die- would always be a hindrance to her and her plans.:waitasec:

I often owner if Caylee was still in the trunk when KC had this dream, but I am convinced it wasn't a bad dream because she regretted what she did, but I dream about getting caught.

Nor was she that good of a girl friend if she was still stringing along other guys.

Yes, I was glad they finally put that to rest (about the search of apt. and car)...but how come we never saw this in discovery (or did we?)...was it because the State so no point in using it?

  • #173
Maybe it was a psychic dream about CA charging into TL's and demanding answers.

  • #174
In reading Tony's depo... HIS friend was in a car accident. So, this must be why Zanny was in an accident. :waitasec: The chameleon.

Actually, I thought the same when I read Amy had been in a car accident, and traveled to Jacksonville in June 2008 to pick up her new car. Wonder which one influenced Casey's 'tale' (perhaps both.)

  • #175
Tony sure is lucky that they took his car, let the cadaver dogs have a go at it, and that they searched his home and all of his phone records. Otherwise he would be in line for that speeding, out of control bus.

I don't remember anything about a "dream," I thought he originally stated that she woke up with a start, hyperventilating and in a sweat ( which is a very real physiological response to a type of trauma)

  • #177
<Respectfully snipped for space>

I find it curious that two people, each from different "walks of life"(Amy admitted that she was not comfortable in the same social places that Casey new friends were enjoying)would, in hind site to these events, still claim they saw Casey as a good mother. Neither one of them can now see the writing on the wall? :waitasec:

Could it be both TL and AH were telling Baez, as Casey's attorney, what they thought he wanted to hear (to defend her?) I am amazed by this as well.

  • #178
Both Tony and Amy seemed careful to qualify their answers. Tony stated that "at the time" things did not stick out to him but that there would have been no reason for them to do so.

Their depos did not bury KC but they clearly exposed her lies and stories.

I thought somewhere along the way we heard that the "dream" was supposedly about the two of them. Probably just another example of misinformation being spun into carp.

I had a son who went to Full Sail ( a joke of a "college" btw) 2years before Tony. Same thing happened to him...struggling artist/student who was taken in by a young woman in his apt. complex who took such good care of him. At the time, I was grateful that he had a female touch in his life. There but for the grace of God....go I...
(Reminds me of the earlier scenes in Officer and A Gentlemen where the young ladies got themselves ready to go to the dance to meet the new, incoming class of officer candidates.)
Poor, unsuspecting Tony
