Now the Judge is doing dual roles! This makes the state and defense look bad at the moment.

I don't think he meant to help the state (although he did). We have to remember, the state can only questin to the motion, and not veer too far off what JB opened the door to during questioning. I am thrilled that the judge delved into it further.

However, I do think the State should have asked a few more questions. Perhaps seeing as how much JP fumbled with this witness, they didn't feel the need to do so.

Yes, especially if he is the one to rule on a particular issue. He wants to have all info to make an informed decision.
