Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said Billie Dunn consented to having her home searched after telling officers Adkins was not there. When investigators searched the house, they found Adkins and executed the search warrant for him, but Toombs would not elaborate on what evidence was sought or collected.http://www.reporternews.com/news/2011/mar/18/mother-missing-colorado-city-teen-hailey-dunn-arra/

Does it sound like in this article LE collected something but will not release what?

This make no sense to me at all! she lied and than let them search:waitasec:

Was he hiding?

Article also mentions some items seized. I posted it earlier but didn't read too closely. OR could it be that this whole case has got my head swimming and whirling.

Adkins' grandmother's home in southern Scurry County is the same home where investigators served the warrant Thursday and took electronic devices. Another resident of that home told authorities that Adkins used the computer "all the time," according to the affidavit.

The warrant also mentions that two Kodak Easy Share cameras were in the home, and that some of the pornographic images were taken or transmitted via a Kodak Easy Share camera. Investigators planned to seize the two cameras, among the many other devices, looking for more evidence.

The warrant, issued by District Judge Ernie Armstrong in Scurry County, gave law enforcement the right to take cameras, cell phones, computers, printers and other devices that may contain child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

AND

Another warrant was issued, out of Howard County, but the judge in that case refused to release the search warrant affidavits to the media although FOI requests were made. That warrant is believed to have been for the "body" of Adkins, meaning it was most likely served to obtain DNA evidence.

But, but, tfrohning, it's this typical of BD? Lies and then tries to cover her azz? She's lied so much to so many, she probably doesn't know the truth anymore, even if it slapped her azz over tea kettles. Well she probably does know "a little bit" of the truth and that would be what happened to Hailey. :maddening:

IIRC, BD said in her newest interview (after being released from jail) that SA came over on his own and she called his mom to come get him. She admitted lying, but did not state why she lied. My guess is that she'll come out later and say she did not know he was coming over and he wouldn't call his mom (i.e. he didn't want to leave, but could have still had his cell on him), so she called for him. Also, my guess is she'll say she didn't know what to do when the police came (since he was at the house) and she was scared of him, so she lied. Jmo. You know that she won't come out and say she was "protecting" SA, so she has to come up with something to explain why a "innocent" person would lie and help the suspect in her daughter's disappearance buy more time to get rid of whatever it was that was supposedly on him at the time. I would drop over right here, if she actually came out and said, "yeah, I lied, because I didn't want the police to have the xyz that he has on him!" No way....don't see it happening. I am sure that she'll come up with some story though and I also feel confident that they both know (her and SA) exactly what the police are looking for. I bet she won't help the police find it though. Again...jmo and general guesses about stuff.

“He (Adkins) had come over here on his own and I had called his mother to come get him,” Dunn said.

If he had his phone why wouldn't he have called her himself? This just makes sense, he knew the warrants were served and Gma's house was being searched. I think he intentionally ditched that phone.

I agree. I think he ditched his phone and he was @ Billie's freaking out and really upset about the search at Gra'ma's. The cops were getting close and she was telling him to 'get a grip.' So when LE arrived she did not want them to speak with Shawn --she was protecting herself, not him, imo.

A murder was solved in either Montana or one of the Dakotas (the young girl worked at the desk at a state park) partially by finding a watch w/broken strap at the crime scene and later matching it up to photos of the suspect wearing it and they could tell in the photo that the band was on the same hole as it was when they found it, as well as DNA from the band. So it could be something like that, something that turned up in multiple photos?

Maybe a knife that would have fit in a certain sheath that is currently with LE?

Maybe some body jewelry?

Maybe his phone?

Maybe his wallet that might have more pictures?

I was the one saying upstream it was his cell phone they were looking for, now I don't think so.
This article says ... "The judge who issued the search warrants on Adkins declined to release any information about what authorities were looking for and why. But Abilene television station KTXS reports that they obtained affidavits that said authorities discovered child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 on a computer and cell phone used by Adkins which was found at his grandmother's house in Scurry County".

Unless he has more than one phone which is possible I guess, his phone was left at Grandma's house and now LE has it. I wonder if he beat feet out the back door as LE was pulling into the driveway and forgot the phone?

How can this guy be so dumb? It boggles the mind, LE has been crawling up his behind for the last two months and he still has Child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on his phone?

BBM; I had forgotten about the knife sheath and pair of safety glasses found by the creek. Great thought!! Maybe LE found trace evidence on that sheath.

:floorlaugh: (Did anyone see the movie Scream?) Under the rug?? Behind the couch?? :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

:shush:

My mistake, the movie Scary Movie not Scream. It's a stupid spoof comedy, take off from other scary movies combined. I just had the image of the grim reaper trying to hide behind the couch, behind the drapes and under an area rug lol. So dumb but funny. Sorry OT.:innocent:

Okay, he specifically said "on him" and not "with him." So, a piece of, ummm, jewelry located in a hidden spot? Ahem? I think this has been speculated in past threads. :)

SurfieTX this report says both...grrr.

A second search warrant, served Thursday evening at the home of Billie Dunn, was a warrant for Adkins' body, signed by a Howard County judge. According to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs, they were looking for an item Adkins commonly carries with him. He did not have it on him, Toombs said.

:banghead: SO...It sounds like it is an actual something he "carries" with him, but did not "carry" IT with him when he was at BD's. OH MY...

Good night y'all.

Please Dear Lord hear our prayers and let's bring closure to this case sooner than later. Hailey needs to come home. I am amazed how many people/strangers love this little girl more than her own mother. Just incredible. I'll never understand why.

  • #133
Could the item he usually carries on him be the cell phone since it was found at his grandma's. It could even be an older one and now he has an even newer one.

BBM That sounds about right to me. He booked out the back when someone warned him they were heading up the road I bet.

I agree that they might have been after something else as well. Maybe he has a key ring with a flash drive or a wallet with something in it that they want. Whatever it was they didn't find it because I am sure he stashed it somewhere when he was on the run from Grandma's.

I'm sure this has been mentioned...I just can't keep up anymore..But after reading this article, I'd be willing to bet that somebody has talked and LE is looking for something like a zip-drive. Maybe somebody else (not Billie unfortunately) has told LE that SA kept his best stash of 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on him at all times. (possibly with incriminating evidence regarding Hailey?) They didn't find what they were searching for apparently but if that were the case, it's somewhere..Shawn wouldn't destroy it I don't believe. That would be his prized possession.....sick, sick, sick...

BD tells Le that SA isn't there, and THEN consents to have them search her home?? And they find him there? And execute the warrant on him.
What the sam hill was she thinking???

http://www.reporternews.com/news/2011/mar/18/mother-missing-colorado-city-teen-hailey-dunn-arra/

Either that he would HIDE, or that he would NOT HIDE, and it would not be a big deal that she had lied "for a minute." I seriously doubt she thought she could (and would) be ARRESTED for it.

Now... since search warrants were being executed at the homes of Shawn's mom and grandmother, they had probably ALSO been asked if Shawn was there because they had a warrant to search his person. At some point, there was contact between Shawn and someone who shared this information with him. He didn't WANT to be "searched" and the available information about the warrant was vague enough that he didn't know specifically what they were looking FOR.

He'd certainly have been bright enough to get rid of anything incriminating (related or not to the CP or Hailey, including drugs or weapons) he was carrying, as he knew an encounter with LE was inevitable, and that his body would, in some way, be examined. He also high-tailed it over to Billie's, where he probably WASN'T welcome, both because she didn't want LE coming to HER house to see him, and because, as she had recently indicated, their relationship was over. He may have figured this was a good place to lie low, since Billie had been quite vocal in her disgust with him over the cheating, the child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, and whatever other information she had gleaned from LE. He figured nobody would look for him in a place he was known to be unwanted.

The point here is that, like us, they did not know what a "body warrant" might entail, and whether it was to look for distinguishing characteristics not generally visible to the public or to collect bodily fluids and hair.

Did Shawn know what they were looking for and ditch it?
If not, what did he THINK they were looking for?
And why would he not want to comply?

If he had figured out that it was the "thing he usually carries but wasn't" (either because he had cached it somewhere in response to the ongoing searches, discarded it previously, or just happened not to have it that day) it would have been an easy thing to ditch it if he hadn't already and (appear to) cooperate with LE. I don't think he knew it was for something he could "take off" or ""put away." He either thought they had photos they were trying to compare to him, or physical evidence (beyond hair, which could be transferred among people living in the same home), like DNA.

Is this the normal for an out of county..way out of county Judge to authorize a search warrant?????

Does this mean he is requesting that officers in the other county conduct a search pertinent to a case in his county? He could not direct officers from HIS county to conduct the search in another county where they do not have jurisdiction, can he? Or WOULD they have jurisdiction to investigate their case even if leads took them outside their jurisdiction?

  • #139
They can conduct a search anywhere, but officers from the county where the searches take place have to accompany them. As for the judge signing a search warrant for a different county I don't know.

I have a question, which I posted in Billie's NT thread, but I'll put it here as well.
If they came to Billie's house looking for Shawn, and had a warrant to search his body, then why didn't they take him into custody? They arrest Billie instead, for lying to police and 'hindering an apprehension.' So why did they leave him sitting there? Had he already left out the back door? If so, then Billie wasn't lying... so why arrest her? If they found him there after she said he wasn't... I don't understand why he wasn't arrested right along with her. Doesn't make one lick of sense to me.

  • #140
I'm assuming that he was just sitting there, in Billies house.
Billie at one time, in one of her many interviews, said Shawn told her he didn't want to talk to police, so she lied to them that he wasn't there, but agreed to them coming inside, Shawn was there, they searched him, for whatever they were searching for, it was not on him.
He technically did nothing wrong, he let them search him.
Billie lied, Shawn didn't try to flee. What could they have arrested him for?
