Why would a minority be a good juror for the defense?

  • #1,062
This juror has tickets to San Juan PR to take ashes to his father.

The DT will want to keep him!!!

what the heck Mason - really!

No kidding. Apparently as long as she had a bedroll and sticks to make a fire, he wanted her there! Sheesh!

Sorry ICA, no new bff for you!

ut oh Puerto Rico. Maybe he knows Zanny? LOL. Sorry couldn't help it.

Why the statement regarding Ethnic Minority comment from HHJP.

It appears that juror may have been a minority, and the D/T is looking for minorities:twocents:

Lovin this judge - he has a 'real world' picture of how people live, how difficult it is to do this trial and how expensive things are today. Common sense man! No good for ICA.

SOS LOL You are killing me here today with your humor! :floorlaugh:

HHJBP is awesome today. He is dialed in and rocking on, very happy IMO to have JS under way and motions out of the way. He does seem slighlty uncomfortable in the big chair he is in for today though. LOL

I thought I saw Brad Conway there today? Did anyone else notice?

Also in the beginning it seemed as if the DT was looking to really drag this part of JS out and HHJBP immediately shut them down!

I saw Brad Conway there too. Can not figure out why he would be interested enough to go over for jury selection. Didn't he wash his hands of all of this?

I'm shocked at the number of people who are saying that their employer does not pay for jury duty.

In this economy, it doesn't surprise me in the least. Lots of employers are cutting expenses however they can nowadays.

Oh shut up Mason!

This gal probably doesn't have a mother or granfather that she can forge checks off of to cover her lost salary! For God's Sake!!!

so true, so true

Maybe that will pacify JB a bit.

Most of them are being excused, will they be able to seat a jury???

Oh yeah - look it's going to be a long trial, lots of folks would have a hard time leaving a job that long - they'll just have muddle through that, but they'll get it done...

See airplane guy might be able to effect a work around

It is the same reason DT wanted Miami, I believe. Because of Baez, right?

  • #1,075
Oops!

Probably there goes another of JB's Hispanics by the wayside.

Too bad. So sad. Not.

he has been making comments to insessions...and other news stations---in other words making up for lost revenue from "pro-bono" (which I still don't get)

There went HHJP's happy face. I can't believe Mason wants to put out that it is okay for someone to lose everything they own just to serve on this jury.

A little O/T, but I have my own business. A few times a year I am the only one here, and I am on call literally 24/7. I had to ask to be excused from jury duty because of this the last time I was called, and the judge was pretty snotty about it. I told her it was only for the rest of that week, and so I was given an extension to the next trial. I also operate on a very thin profit margin, so I would not be able to pay my workers if they were on jury duty for more than a week or two. I'm not one of those multi-millionaires that gets govermental bail-out money because I do a lousy job running my business. ;-(

Employers don't value this process and to them it's just $$$ loss. They don't want to pay employees for not working, even if they are serving on a jury.

I'm lucky obviously my firm values jury service. So I can sit on any jury for any length. But most of the time I'm knocked off because of what I do for a living. And most of the time by the defense. ha ha.

I feel sorry for that Puero Rican dude if he makes it on the jury. ICA will be flirting with him like mad!

My husband's won't. He doesn't even get holiday or vacation pay so he doesn't take a vacation. But he has a great pension, great wage and great insurance.
Typical union bargaining!
