We're sitting at a little over 11% unemployment rate here in Florida. Luckily, I'm blessed to have a job, but most people are doing whatever they can to make ends meet. $30/day wouldn't cover a thing here, much less anywhere else in the US. It's a right to work state, so if one has a job of ANY sort, one does almost anything to keep it. I feel for these people, especially the lady stating that she'd want to do her "duty" but just can't.

I don't understand this process. If the financial thing is a problem for everyone they are asking then what would they do?

Realistically who can go without income for 2 months? Not me.... particularly since they are asking this today and expecting them to start next Monday. Hardly enough warning to make such a commitment is it?

Which makes this process so important for the DT. Having this long of a trial means you're most likely looking at retired people (and most people have children). And since this is a death case they HAVE to be willing to impose the death penalty.

So what Casey is looking at is getting a VERY VERY Conservative jury. There will be no fellow shot girls on this jury. They might get lucky and get a young single male on the jury who works in a professional setting who will be paid for the duration of the trial. But even then those type of professionals work in law firms, medical offices, etc. So even those jurors are going to be Conservative.

Juror 1244: Employer covers 1st week, after that potential juror has to use PTO (personal time off). Says it would impact him financially..can't afford his bills. Couldn't pay rent- would be evicted. Has family in the area/doesn't live with them.

Excused for financial hardship.

I giggle every time HHJP says "specific":giggle:

I'm shocked at the number of people who are saying that their employer does not pay for jury duty.

Ours only pays 2 days.

I really think that casey anthony wouldnt exactly like this woman. She likes to take care of her obligations. moo

Small and furry obligations she probably cares more about than Casey ever cared for Caylee too!

does this impact you financially - yes

cannot pay bills - rent, would be evicted, no car loan, cell phone bill

has family in the area - does not want to live with them

excused for financial hardship

I love that last comment..."I like my freedom!"

  • #1,132
Looks like Baez just said "this is going on way too long".

  • #1,133
HA HA - "I like my freedom" when asked about living with relatives...This is so aprapo (sp?) re: real people vs. ICA...

I saw Brad Conway there too. Can not figure out why he would be interested enough to go over for jury selection. Didn't he wash his hands of all of this?

Isn't he a consultant for a media outlet for the trial?
If he is that could be why he is there, to report back to them about the proceedings.

just popping in to read a couple of pages...tried to watch InSession...too many commercials and too much yabbering by the hosts of the hour. :( Cannot put up with it. Hubby is already complaining on Day 1, that nothing will get done around here for 2 months...geesh...doesn't he realize I have been waiting almost 3 years for this day!!!??? :maddening:

Is CA there?...I thought she and GA weren't going to go to jury selection!
