Casey Anthony's defense team again sought a mistrial on Thursday afternoon after the jury saw video of a jail visit between her and brother Lee Anthony in which he makes several negative statements about her attorney, Jose Baez.
Baez argued that Lee's statements were prejudicial, undermined the defense with the jury and falsely suggested he might obstruct justice or withhold evidence. Prosecutors argued that the deadline for motions on evidence was December 31, 2010 and the defense never raised an issue with those portions of the recordings, nor did they ever contact the state attorney's office about redacting them. Judge Belvin Perry denied the motion for mistrial, stating that it was untimely.
In jail visits with her brother and parents following her arrest, Casey Anthony alternately cries, giggles, expresses love to her relatives and insists her sole focus is finding her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, according to tapes of those visits played for jurors in her capital murder trial on Thursday.
It wasn't exactly what defense attorney Jose Baez would have wanted to hear.
His client, Casey Anthony, made admissions in her 2008 jailhouse video during conversations with her parents.
They are admissions, prosecutors believe, could blow up the defense's strategy.
Anthony's murder trial spent most of Thursday listening and watching evidence tapes -- an hour-long interview with detectives at Universal Studios and hours of video of jail visits by her own family.
In all, prosecutors played video from four different visits in 2008 from Casey's parents and brother.
