Technical testimony draws repeated objections from defense

Explanations of human decomposition, odor of decay and other highly scientific testimony continued to dominate the first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony today.

Dr. Arpad Vass, found that while not conclusive, nearly all the compounds present in early human decomposition were detected in the trunk of Casey Anthony's Pontiac Sunfire.

Dr. Arpad Vass's testimony is highly technical. Vass has given testimony about what factors impact the rate of decomposition after death. Temperature is the most important factor followed by water content, pH and oxygen.

Muscle and skin breaks down into so-called "volatile fatty acids," said Vass.


Chloroform discussion
Vass said he and his research team were "shocked" about the "unusually high" chloroform levels from an air sample related to a piece of carpet from the Pontiac.

"We have never seen chloroform at that level before," he said.
