2011.07.02- HLN News Shows Discussion - Casey Anthony Trial

Are they all aware that purple was the color chosen to represent Caylee? I've seen it an awful lot, and being that its my favorite color and has come into fashion a lot more in the last two years....but its just a lot of men wearing purple covering this case!

I noticed this too. Vinnie had a purple shirt on and Casey Jordan had a purple dress on...in fact, I also thought it looked just the dress CA wore on the stand the day she talked about the computer searches. I've seen a few purple ties on the guys too.

JVM said she believed Casey was praying in court yesterday when

she looked down for a minute after the state rested.

Whatever! She was reading I seen it with my own eyes. Vinnie started that bull while it was happening talking about how sad she is she can't even hold her head up blah blah blah. She was reading as she was seated then lifted whatever it was to the table and as she was standing she took a drink of her water and still looking down reading.

Okay folks - I'm taking one for the team and watching Geraldo. I need a shower afterwards, I've decided.

Anywho - there is a discussion going on about whether or not Baez will ignore the closing instruction order and include things that are not allowed (i.e. arguments about areas not presented as evidence during the trial - molestation, drowning, etc). There are 2 defense attorneys on the show and they are saying when you are defending a client up against the death penalty you are not worried about a contempt threat hanging over your head.

I have to wonder if either of these two have ever felt the wrath of HHJP's velvet hammer. He took the time to specifically issue these orders, which has surprised several attorneys (Nejame and Shaeffer are two so far that have spoken out about it). They say these are laws regarding closing statements that any attorney should know yet HHJP issues this order.

I suppose we are now expected to see Baez throw himself on the contempt sword tomorrow and I bet he is counting on HHJP withholding reprimanding him during open court so as to not penalize his client in front of the jury for his mistakes. At this point, particularly when it is closing arguments, I hope HHJP gives a warning ahead of time in open court, without jury present, and warns Baez that if the order is not followed, he will interrupt his closing argument and tell the jury that is not evidence and to disregard what Baez just said. One of the lawyers over in the lawyer thread said that the judge can do that in closing arguments, that they do not have to wait on the other side to object.

IMO

JP will absolutely talk to them without the jury and be sure both sides understand his order. JP can't just let JB do and say what he wants because he has to be fair to the State who represents Caylee as well. I think he should tell them that anyone that doesn't abide by the order will be reprimanded in front of the jury and will find their butt in jail after the jury is dismissed for the day.

Well, at least Geraldo said he thought that ICA was going to get CONVICTED of aggravated child abuse. I mean at least he didnt try and say she was going to walk.

For some stupid reason, I decided to watch some of Geraldo tonight also. Wrong decision. I get so mad at him. He will do anything to help JB. It is SO OBVIOUS. I finally had to turn it off.

Thank you for your post. It's nice to know I'm not the only one thinking your conclusions.

Just have one question:

Will Geraldo be in his 'normal' seat in the gallery tomorrow, or will his illustrious mustache be attending alone?

True. I noticed a lot of the defense lawyers on tv do think she will be convicted. That LKB who makes me crazy says she will be convicted but as long as she doesn't get DP it will be a victory for DT. I thought for sure she would say it would be an acquittal but I can't imagine 12 people setting her free and back into society.

Does anyone know what happened to Dr Drew on the "Dr. Drew Show"? No one has made any mention of it. It seems as though they kicked him off just to dedicate "HIS" show to the legal aspect of the trial by letting Vinnie host it.
If this is the case then I think that was pretty tacky on HLN's part.

Yup. Fine with me. Let the DT celebrate their 'victory' as she shuffles off to LIFE in prison. Cool. I really do not think the SA ever planned on getting the DP anyway. I think it will be easier to get LWOP or 30 to 40 years if the jury feels they are showing Mercy by rejecting the DP. imoo

I surfed by HLN just in time to see the Anna Nicole Smith crying judge Larry Seidlin talking, with this on the bottom of the screen:

Judge Larry Seidlin
Former Judge Larry Seidlin

Tonight JVM has him on camera, speaking as a some sort of authority.

He's quite a character. Some of his "accomplishments" are documented here:

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Seidlin"]Larry Seidlin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

"As judge during the Anna Nicole Smith body custody hearing, Judge Seidlin was involved in some controversial actions, such as making one-liners and other attempts at humor which some who know him said is normal for him, but led many to speculate that his actions and comments were for the cameras in the courtroom and were made as an attempt to secure a courtroom television show similar to Judge Judy's."

It's tabloid TV, folks.
