Nope....."old sparky" has been taken out of commission. Lethal injection only. The chair malfunctioned the last two times it was used and was deemed "cruel and unusual punishment" so it's been retired. Lived there long enough to know.
I am confoozed because according*to the State of Florida and the Florida Department of Corrections, both lethal injection and electrocution are still used.*

http://www.dc.state.fl.us/index.html

In January 2000, the Florida Legislature passed legislation that allows lethal injection as an alternative method of execution in Florida. Florida administers executions by lethal injection or electric chair at the execution chamber located at Florida State Prison.

More info about 'Ol Sparky:

http://www.dc.state.fl.us/secretary/press/1999/elechair.html

The three-legged electric chair was constructed from oak by Department of Corrections personnel in 1998 and was installed at Florida State Prison (FSP) in Starke in 1999. The previous chair was made by inmates from oak in 1923 after the Florida Legislature designated electrocution as the official mode of execution. (Prior to that, executions were carried out by counties, usually by hanging.) It is regularly tested to ensure proper functioning.*It should be noted that the only aspect of the current electric chair that is new is the wooden structure of the chair itself. The apparatus that administers the electric current to the condemned prisoner is the same that has been used in recent years. It is regularly tested to ensure proper functioning.

So the actual chair is fairly new, but the wiring and such is (c)1923.*

(sorry about all the "*" in this post. The*iphone touchscream keeps putting them in)

I signed up for those texts a few days ago and have been receiving timely updates. But I did NOT receive one today. The last one I got frm them ws last night at 6:06pm saying jury was sent back. Did anyone using O Sentinel receive a text today? I just want to make sure they are dependable for when the verdict does come back. TIA

No text here. I'm finding annoying vinnie from IS to be most reliable. I think he just discovered twitter because he tweets some carp.

I can see this is a very heartfelt post and I agree with most of what you say. However I do want to add one comment.
While all accused need to be defended on those charges in a court of law, this particular family and this Defense Lawyer unjustly accused many innocent people of many crimes on a whim, on unsubstantiated evidence that has never and can never be refuted, and dragged their reputations through the mud, all in the name of a defense.

The problem with that is once a person is tarred with suspicion, that "suspicion" follows them for the rest of their life, even if there isn't a shred of truthfulness to it. And this is so wrong. What Baez has done, primarily to advance his own career goals and not necessarily to defend his client has been unconscionable and there is no excuse for it at all.

Because those very rumors Baez originated, that have not been substantiated by a shred of evidence are primarily what we discuss at great length as facts even here at WS. And how can that be right or just?

I agree, thats where we are getting to another point.I dont think that trials should be sensationalized and televised, but I know there is nothing anyone can do to stop this. I also think that people fail to see that in a criminal case witnesses get accused of all kinds of things. Like I mentioned about my friend that was accused of molesting his daughter. The difference is his case isnt on TV, facebook, twitter, live video etc...So just cause your case is high profile then should the DT not bring up accusations just cause it may ruin a persons life? It's Casey's father so she has to live with that too. She should have the blame. I'm sure they asked her, O.k. we are going with this are you sure? She unleashed this monster. So im mad at her.

There are killers in prison who have served in the US military. I don't give someone props for serving; but that's just me.

I had a guy tell me he joined the Marines because he wanted to kill people and get away with it.

No, I'm not kidding.

Let's just say he's no longer on my list of 'research contacts'.

While I wouldn't give props to anyone with that "killing for fun" attitude, either, there are always two sides. There are people out there who genuinely believe they are fighting for the freedom and safety of all of us, and who are willing to lay down their lives to do so, if necessary. To them, I have no problem giving props.

However, I could be biased, as my son is literally deploying at this very moment.

OK... i'm going to calm myself by watching the State's rebuttal closing again.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the jury heard the statement from ICA when she referred to baby Caylee as "the little snothead". If they did, I hope they take that into consideration while deliberating. What an awful way to describe your own child!

Gotta remember to Baez - it's about HIM - not ICA.

Bill S told a story this morning on WFTV. He said throughout the earlier stages of the trial, Baez would call him personally to complain about things Bill S was saying about him.

Not about ICA, or her guilt, or the evidence against her, or anything to do with Bill's opinion of her guilt or innocence.

Just what Bill was saying about HIM. :loser:

Bill S. said he explained to Baez that the fact was, he was now under contract to WFTV to do legal analysis - for better or worse - and that is what he was going to continue to do. He said he told Baez that - sorry, he wasn't under obligation to follow some unspoken "code of defense attorneys" and say Baez was doing a great job when the exact opposite was the truth.

Maybe that "unspoken code" explains why the vast majority of TH's that are/were defense attorneys keep spouting this complete and utter BS about Baez?

Thank goodness there are a few that have the courage to break that code: NeJame, Eiglarsh (for the most part), Hornsby (most of the time), and one or two that NG browbeats into admitting that he is just plain awful.

Thank you so much for posting this - I hadn't heard this and I appreciate you posting it - and yes, agree - this case has been about Baez and his self promotion. We watched him complain for 2.5 years about the case being tried in the media, and all he did was spend his time in the media talking about the case, instead of actually doing some work.:banghead:

Do we know where the jurors take their "special breaks?" If they are smoking I would think it has to be outside and someone would have seen them? That is if any of the 12 left are smokers and it wasn't the alternates who wanted the special breaks.

Beth K. said yesterday there was some sort of balcony 2 floors down I think...but the media had a little more freedom in the AM yesterday and then she said they were told they had to stay in the room as they were straying from it...so maybe they can't see them today...but Jean C. claims the guard told her they did not break today...I am not sure I believe her :(

my husband deployed yesterday!!!:seeya:

Then if thats the case then they should make laws against it, but how can you? What if the accusations are true??

I know there was the whole child molestation daycare scare in the 80's where lots of people went to jail who were innocent due to the so called experts and psychologist talking to children and kinda coaching them. Also, some vindictive parents that were basically a mob. What then? Just go quitely to jail and dont make any waves? See the mob mentality works both ways....

Or what if your drug addicted ex-wife is saying you molested your daughter in order to get custody? Thats happened to a friend of mine and trust me they exposed her for what she really was. A drug addict, liar, con artist and horrible mother that neglected her kids.
The problem is, "What if..." is a legal tactic for which the truthfulness doesn't have to be asserted.

When defense lawyers, or even a prosecutor, accuses someone of being a pedophile, it ripples out to everyone in the family. People do not live in a vacuum. Slimy lawyers besmirch others without giving a damn how it affects everyone involved, because their goal is to divert or mitigate. Truth is irrelevant; it must be. I get it. That doesn't mean I can't think it takes a certain kind of someone to get the job done.

Again, I do not think slimy lawyers are sociopaths. However, I maintain there are some similarities, but that's the nature of being human. It's my observation that we humans have more in common with each other than we'd like to believe, even sociopaths.

That's just my opinion, and well, we all know what opinions are like...

I keep wondering how people are going to react if the jury says "not guilty".

For me if the verdict comes back not guilty I will lose what little respect I still have left for our justice system. I am so sick of criminals being given all the rights and protection, I'll never understand why juries are not allowed to know about the past of repeat offenders. KC is a felon and I wonder if this jury knows that. Regardless of the verdict the criminals in the USA are treated like the victims. It makes me sick!

Tweets said there was a huge cart of CHIK-FIL-A.......
I am soooooo hungry for junk food. That's all I ate for 3 days off at home watching this thing.
It's back to Lean Cuisine today.
I really want Chik-Fil-A

I think the jury needs to be given choices of foods that will give them energy and help them think more clearly.

I love BS. He is just as quick to point things that he admires too. He gives Jose credit for his determination and for not giving up. That is a good quality for a defense attorney but half the time that Jose gets knocked down it's HIS fault.

I heard a story about Jose maybe from Bill. They said that he was confronted in a cafe by someone in the media and he said that he could not comment on the trial. This was when all the pretrial hearings were going on. The media person left him alone after that and Jose got his order and started out of the restaurant. He got almost out of the door and turned around with a big grin and said "How do you think that I am doing now?"

So yeah, it's all about him.

From my understandings from the media when the Jury retires they first pick a foreman then usually they take an initial vote to see where everyone stands. Not saying this took place in this case just wondering if this jury has. And if they have would they have done this on each of the seven counts? Like I heard a media person say yesterday I would pay very highly just to be a fly on the wall in that room.
