Are those small rip currents at the edge of the water? It’s ominous looking.
Very likely.

Rip currents are fairly common on the Pacific coast due to the rocky terrain.

Electricity is still out in Acapulco. It's hard to determine the extent of the damage.

The mall that was hit bad was about 1/4 mile from the coast. I gotta worry because it appears everything tourist is on the coast (lots of high rises) and where would they go to evacuate on such short notice? Even the Home Depot is close to the shore.

The NYT is reporting that the internet in Guerrero State is completely disrupted as well, and communications are ‘lost’ so they’re isolated at the moment. That happens here in NS with less severe hurricanes. With Dorian and Fiona even our land lines became overloaded and failed.

They also said at the time of the storm the hotels in Acapulco were over 80% occupied and there is a mining convention in the city.

Tammy strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday morning. The National Hurricane Center predicts it could strengthen further Wednesday, followed by weakening later in the week as it makes a northwestward turn.

The current cone forecast shows the storm pointing back towards the U.S.

I was out on the Intracoastal Waterway in central FL today, The river closer to the ocean was very choppy. We spent most time on an inner lagoon where it was a delightful breeze and not so choppy.

That's 1/4 mile from the shore.
However, I don't think storm surge is as bad the Gulf Coast and SE Atlantic due to the steep continental shelf. Some are on twitter are comparing it to Andrew.

Crap. I was in Homestead in Andrew. You don’t want another Andrew.
