I could see this as possible -- when puppies get tired, they just fall anywhere and no do more. A 4 month old baby can wiggle a bit, but I don't know (can't remember -- my son is 30 y/o) if a 4 m/o can shake off or somehow remove a puppy from his/her face or not.
All it would take is 2-3-4 minutes for that baby to be in big trouble. And no one would have heard anything if the pup was lying on the baby's face.
Tragic, no matter what the COD is. Four months old, oh my.
We have lost another precious one. SMH.

Unfortunately I’m unable to read this article here in Europe. Can anyone give me a brief synopsis? TIA

911 was called New Years Eve by a man crying and wailing that his baby "wasn't breathing". He said that "the puppy was just lying on her". No breed or size of dog is mentioned nor is where the baby was located when found with the dog on top of her. Cause of death has not been determined yet.

(I'm waiting to learn more because I'll bet there is more to be learned)

I have some questions too. I'm not asking, they are just there.

Oh this is a tragedy. A four month old baby probably could not even get a small dog to move.

I recommend cats but there are those who will swear a cat will try to "take a baby's breath". Not my opinion, I've actually talked to a college educated person who said this very thing to me very seriously.

More of the article:
Crews were called around 7 p.m. to a home in the 20 block of South Findlay Street.
A 911 caller told a dispatcher that he found a dog on top of the baby, and that she was not breathing and was unconscious.
“She’s not breathing. My baby ain’t breathing,” a man told the dispatcher.
The man, who was wailing and begging for help, said he didn’t know what happened but that “the puppy was just lying on her.”
Raelynn was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Thank you @borndem for the details.

What a tragic ( & unusual) scenario.

I’ve never come across this before ( though have heard of cases of an adult accidentally smothering a baby, hence co-sleeping/bed-sharing not being recommended.
In some states, parents under the influence of alcohol or drugs have been charged with manslaughter)

Such a sad loss of a small defenceless infant, her family must be completely devastated.

You're quite welcome, @Bethan!
I have read in MSM, with sadness, a couple of cases where an infant has died from being smothered when his/her face was wrapped up in a loose sheet or blanket or against a pillow. That's why pediatricians and many others, warn so strongly about loose bedclothes, toys, etc. in a crib since they can harm an infant who cannot yet turn over.
I'm thinking, and I could be wrong, that there are ways a Medical Examiner may be able to differentiate, in some situations, this type of suffocation from a forced suffocation, i.e., murder.
We'll just have to wait and see -- hoping MSM does keep up with this case and publish it.
