Judge: You have a right to testify in your own defense. But, you don't have to. You also have a right to silence and that can't be held against you in any way. Anything you do say, except to your attorneys, can be used against you. Do you understand? BK: Yes, I do…

BK says he understands his rights. He confirms "yes" he has a copy of the indictment in front of him. He says "yes" when asked whether his name is spelled correctly.

Here is exactly what Dateline said:

"According to our source, investigators learned the following: One of Bryan's two older sisters brought up an uncomfortable topic. The sister had noticed Bryan had been wearing latex gloves. She found it odd..."

That's where they relayed what the sister allegedly said. So no, the sister did not speak with Dateline (that we know of). A source is telling them this information and we have no idea who that source is.

Well, at least they did follow journalistic standards on how it was presented. If true, I do think it's speaks volumes about the family dynamic, and their relationship with their troubled brother for her to not discount him as a potential suspect. With rare exceptions, family members are usually the last to know. And some family members never accept it.

Judge John Judge has read Kohberger his charges: -4 counts of First Degree Murder -Felony Burglary

Penalties for each charge: -First-degree murder - life in prison/death penalty -Felony Burglary - Max 10 years/$50,000

Kohberger understands all charges and penalties against him.

The court docs say it's a scheduling conference to set a hearing for the (now)combined motions of Goncalves and Associated Press et al? It's via zoom apparently. Perhaps it's been altered or scheduling means something else in this context? IDK, seems a little confusing. MOO
Actually, I think one or two of the journos were tweeting about the two hearings that follow the arraignment. Only the first one at 10 am is re the gag order, the second at 11 am is re defense motion to compel. The 10am is listed as Hearing type: scheduling conference. There may be a little confusion out there but not to worry! MOO

Kohberger will be standing silent, the judge has entered a not guilty charge on his behalf

The state has 60 days to seek the death penalty, if they so choose.

I wonder what the defendant's and defense attorneys' "standinng silent" means. Why do they not enter a plea of not guilty? I assume there is precedent, and that it has some legal significance. They didn't say "your honor, my client will not enter a plea at this time." But instead, they "stood silent." Will be interesting to hear what this means in terms of legal position.

Stand Mute Definition

At an arraignment, a defendant is asked how they plead to the crime(s) charged against them. The defendant can plead guilty, not guilty, or stand mute. Standing mute means a defendant does not take a stance on being guilty or not guilty; they remain silent. Standing mute or remaining silent has the same effect as pleading “not guilty” because a judge or magistrate will enter a not guilty plea on the defendant’s behalf.
