5/15/2012--Sentencing

  • #1,001
Actually, I was watching CBC news a couple of nights ago (I was going to post it here, but figured it was already posted) but it was a piece about PB & RW complaining about an inmate near them who had bad hygiene so he was moved to another prison... guess who took his place, none other then MR himself. :woohoo:

Sorry I can't seem to find a link to this tidbit.

It was the former cop wills, he was soiling his cell with urine and feces. The guards were happy to have him gone from the article I read. As for MR, he was to go to Millhaven for 6 week assesement. I don't think it has been 6 weeks yet.

Michael Rafferty's deadline to appeal his first-degree murder conviction has come and gone, but that doesn't mean he's given up on the idea.

Convicted May 12 of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing Victoria 'Tori' Stafford, Rafferty had 30 days to file a notice he wanted to appeal that conviction.

As of Friday, the Ontario Court of Appeal hadn't received a notice seeking leave to appeal.

But inmates often notify prison officials of their intention to seek appeal of their sentences, Ontario Court of Appeal staff said.

There's often a delay of several days before prison officials pass the documents to the court, staff said.

Even if Rafferty missed the June 12 deadline by a day or two to tell prison officials, the court may consider his notification an official request to extend the 30-day time period to file leave, staff said.

Rafferty's trial lawyer, Dirk Derstine, isn't handling any appeal and said last week he hadn't heard of his former client hiring an appeal lawyer yet.

Eight-year-old Stafford was abducted outside her Woodstock school in April 2009, her battered body found that summer buried beneath a pile of rocks near Mount Forest.

I hope this isn't the case. I sincerely hope he doesn't have the money to fund an appeal himself and he rots where he belongs without dragging Tori's family through any more.

He'd be pretty foolish to sit on his hands for 30 days without looking into appealing if that were his intention. It's not like he's been too busy or anything. Does anyone know if it's customary for inmates to leave the appeal process until the 11th hour and miss the deadline because it doesn't matter if they miss it? Even if he has been working on an appeal but has had trouble finding a lawyer to handle it, would he not have at least made his intentions known? Or is this some kind of game?

I'm curious...

Near the end of his trial, his mother said that she may give a statement to the media after sentencing. Did she ever? Am I missing that? If not, I wonder why. I am not saying that she has to, that is totally up to her and I respect her decision not to, I am just curious about why she made that decision. Did she not know about the computer evidence (since she said that before this was revealed publicly)?

It must be horrible for her.

I don't think she ever did and I wonder if it's because she didn't know about the computer evidence, if that's the case it must have really been a shock for her, and I can see why she would change her mind about the statement.

I haven't heard that Rafferty has been moved yet, I heard soon about a week ago. Have to be snoopy and see if I can find out.

I shall never forget Tori either. Two good things came out of this, the incarceration of two monsters never to hurt another child again and the amber alert changes in ontario. I hope Canada learns from this and makes special laws for child sexual assault/murderers... spend their remaining days in prison and no chance of parole.

I read that there is no time limit for him to request an extension. However, it doesn't mean he will be granted an extension either.

I was reading the Verdict Threads last night, and there were a couple of major details that I had missed.

The first one, just breaks my heart. 16 out of 24 of Victoria's ribs were broken. 16, almost all of them. OMG. Those 🤬🤬🤬. There were so many horrific details of her death, and perhaps this fact didn't register with me at the time, because I started to block it out or something.

Why did those monsters destroy Victoria's beautiful life? :(

The second fact, is just as horrifying, in a different way. The majority of the child pornography that Rafferty was viewing was incestuous. Of course, any of it is appalling, but, incestuous? "Golden Showers"? Naked, epileptic seizure victims?

Michael Rafferty was one sick Monster, and THANK-GOD there will be no victims.

I do expect the appeal notification anyday. He's a ba&&&rd, and he will subject us all to more of his crap, I am sure. The only way I can see him waiving it, is to spare his own Mother more of the nightmare. But, I am sure he is still feeding her his pathetic lies and cowardly protests of his innocence, so, I do expect an appeal notification anyday.

I think the 30-day deadline is misleading. Perhaps it's there to hurry the process along if the convict's lawyer identifies grounds from the trial. Other than that, I don't see why he can't why anybody can't mount an appeal at any time, provided, of course, that they have grounds and can afford it.

Millhaven is just outside of Kingston in a little town called Bath. If I thought they'd let me back out I'd go down there and open his door. lol

JMO...I believe that his mother thought he was innocent and said she would make a statement when he would be released....I guess we won't hear from her as things did not pan out they way she thought it would!

BBM #1 don't forget that the animals destroyed her beautiful little face. Little angel probably had no idea why this was happening, I can't just bear thinking about it.

BBM #2 He is probably able to manipulate his Mother just as much as he manipulated all those poor women. She'll probably never believe that he is guilty.

I wonder where all those who were adamant that he was innocent have gone to. Specifically one person in question who thought that if he is found quilty it would be the greatest injustice of all. Heh.

..I hope the news does tell us when MR. reaches his FINAL destination ...the cell beside Paul Bernardo and Russsel ...KIngston Penn is a good place for him to "ROT"....IMO...Lots of info on net about how the movement and talk of Rodney's wishes are still being talked about on news and talk shows....again I shall not enter that discussion here ! IMO i am allowed to say I feel MR. SHOULD NOT be breathing the same air as us decent people.Several people in the south Richmond hill area know MR as a teenager and not too many pleasant things are said about ..MIchael Rafferty...the end of this rant...I do feel I hope sometime in the future that Rodney's dreams of CHANGE become a reality as there are way too mant sickos that pop up every where...robynhood
