I wish it would snow here. I hate the summer!

I agree that MR is a misogynist. And a pedophile. And a psychopath. I would be willing to bet that he has molested previously and would have killed again if he hadn't been caught. I'm quite sure TLM would have continued on stabbing and physically assaulting people too. Actually, I guess she still is, she's just doing it in jail.

I wonder how MR is liking his new home?

With all the talk of rehabilitating pedophiles, sexual sadists and rapists I was thinking it would be kind of hard to do that with someone like MR who refuses to even admit that he is one although all of the evidence seems to point to it.

I know that he may think that his continued declaration of being "not guilty" of this crime may help him in the future, I really can't see that happening. If he's still clinging to innocence in 22 years when he's up for parole, I sure hope the parole board realizes how very dangerous he is since rehabilitation for him would be impossible.

And I'd really like to know why he can't also be charged with child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, living off the avails of prostitution and drug trafficking? Not to mention at least one rape of an adult woman, and I'm sure there are more. Wouldn't piling all these charges on him have an effect on any future parole hearings?

Doesn't seem right that just because he was caught on one murder, hopefully his first and only, that he can't be designated a dangerous offender because there is no "pattern". LE just got lucky with TLM. I'm sure there would have been more so it makes no sense that unless more than one person loses their life to this 🤬🤬🤬 he can't be designated a dangerous offender and that the possibility of parole is even on the table.

I had thought since there was 3 convictions total that Rafferty would indeed be deemed a Dangerous Offender. I truly hope if somebody out there has been victimized they come forward.

Tell me about it. I need to move out of Canada and somewhere tropical. LOL

Maybe you can go check up on Karla and see how she's doing down there in paradise. ;)

Did anyone see or read this open letter to Rafferty, that was posted on the courthouse wall?

There is a nice gallery of pics at this link, from the Day of Sentencing.

One main component of parole is that the inmate show remorse for their crime. In order for MTR to have remorse or show it (whether genuine or not), he must take responsibility for his crimes. Hard to do 22 years later if he's still going to maintain his innocence.

"PAROLE DENIED" !!! :floorlaugh:

• Police are authorized to notify specific individuals or the community at large of the
release of sex offender deemed high risk to reoffend

Interesting. The question is: what are you going to do when you receive in information that a sex offender is moving into your neighbourhood?[/I]

• Police can ask the courts to apply a peace bond to sex offenders in the community
to restrict their movements, require reporting to police or reside at a particular location
• Sex offenders can be declared a Long Term Offender at time of sentencing, meaning
that the offender can receive up to 10 years community supervision following
imprisonment for at least 2 years
• Sex offenders can be declared a Dangerous Offender at time of sentencing, meaning
that the offender can be held in prison indefinitely

At the time of sentencing? That means the crown should have applied for this already during the trial? Damned I thought they would have now 22 years time to do so. Will MTR not getting the dangerous offender? I] :please:

• Criminal records of pardoned sex offenders who apply for positions of trust with
children can be revealed upon approval by the Solicitor General

It doesn't appear that Rafferty will get the Dangerous Offender attached. Berardo is (FYI). From the changes made and re reading it as of late Rafferty doesn't meet the criteria with having only one Victim.

I posted this link before pertaining to MR and I wonder if anyone else sees any traits on this list which is fitting to MR. I underlined what I felt was fitting; cannot say for certainty about not getting along with his mother but a good indication would be, he himself told women he had issues/troubles at home, didn't get along with his brothers and was shipped away to live with an aunt and uncle at a young age. (early teens?) MOO. There is something very off with MR, not only because he abducted, sexually assaulted Tori and murdered her, but there is something twisted in his head and it would be interesting to figure out what made him do what he did. I do not believe this was something which just cropped up in the past couple of years; it's something which has been brewing for many years. I've always believed monsters are not born, they are raised. I hope at sometime we are privy to what the heck went on in his life. I would not be surprised to find out he lacked a decent male role model in his life or a male role model period. JMO

Misogyny (mi-soj'e-ne) n. Hatred of women; a person who hates women.

> * Extremely possessive, always wanting to know where you are; who you're with.

> * Obsessively jealous, even of your women friends.

> * Has first class spending habits; always wanting more.

> * Can't stand criticism; always on the defense.

> * Had a poor relationship with his mother.

> * Uncomfortable with feelings; contemptuous of other's weaknesses.

> * If you share a secret with him it may be used against you.

> * Threats of withdrawal if you don't comply, "If you really loved me, you would…"

> * Makes fun of you, calls you names and inflicts little digs; hostile humor.

> * You feel awkward and incompetent around him; controlled.

> * Embarrasses you in public, or flatters you then cuts you down when alone.

> * Is nasty behind the wheel and feels that others' mistakes are directed toward him.

> * Wants or demands undivided attention; you are to be available when he wants you.

> * Has grandiose behavior; is cocky, controlling, self-centered.

> * Is competitive; must always win; his way or no way at all.

> * Is an habitual liar; he twists facts to make it look as if he were the victim.

> * Has extreme mood swings (extreme high to low).

> * Takes no responsibility for anything; blames others/things/ circumstances for his behavior.

> * Treats you rough at times; twisting your arm, grabbing, shoving.

> * Is nice to others, but treats you badly; shows no respect.

> * Professes to be religious then attacks YOUR religious beliefs.

> * Gives gifts then demands favors.

> * Makes jokes and puts women down in front of you then ridicules you for being upset.

> * Encourages pity from others; convinces you to feel sorry for him for all he's had to endure.

> *Constantly cuts down your family and friends; isolates you. You must account for your time. > * Very impatient and when he gets angry will destroy property; usually yours.

> *Overly sensitive and sulks when he doesn't get his way.

> * Tells you everything to do; what to do, how to do it, > when to do it; what to wear

intersting list. I underlined what I think fits perfectly to MTR too.

WHAT? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO then he will be out in 22 years :what:

I don't believe he will. Tori's Family will be there in 22 years. The impact Statements will be examined. The fact that he was convicted of 3 crimes. In my opinion he will be there until he dies. He may die even before the 22 year mark. One is never 100% safe in Prison.

Due to a prior Mod warning we need a seperate thread i believe to discuss the DP and how it pertains to this case.

  • #617
WHAT? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO then he will be out in 22 years :what:

There's also the faint hope clause in 15 years ...

"At the 15-year mark, the so-called “faint hope” clause kicks in, allowing the prisoner to seek permission to make a parole application. But most killers are turned down, and in this instance, the notoriety and extraordinary viciousness of the circumstances all but ensure that Mr. Rafferty will not be freed at that point – if ever. However, he likely cannot be ruled a “dangerous offender,” which spells an indefinite sentence, because that requires prosecutors to show a pattern to the criminality. And aside from a brush with the law when he was a juvenile, Mr. Rafferty had until Friday never been convicted of anything."

ok then let's open another thread for this if possible.
If not then I don't wanna see any horrible interview with this Charles whatever his last name is anymore either.
This is such an important matter that it shouldn't be just whispered under the table.
We either can speak about it loud (BOTH SIDES) or not at all.

It truly is important. Hello mods can we have a thread on this topic? I have to sign off here in a bit so perhaps you can follow up Yody?

I don't know for sure, but I would think that if there were a discussion going on about the DP it might be in the private forums.
