Good questions Cubby!

I've seen it mentioned several times about getting a thread going strictly for questions to Benjaman and I know SieSie started a "Questions" thread but I believe that not only had questions to be culled for BK but to be answered by us readers (has this been mentioned, point me in the direction, etc.) I'm going to start a thread for Questions for Benjaman. It won't be locked and there's a chance it could get clouded but I hope not. I hope I won't be doing something wrong by starting it - since it hasn't been done before in response to asking about it it kinda makes me wonder, lol. If I'm stepping over a line or something, please Mods, forgive my error and do what you must with the thread. (As, I'm relatively new to posting here, please be gentle on me tho, please. ;-)

Now, if the thread stays and it doesn't get clouded and cluttered by conversation among ourselves, I don't know if Benjaman, himself, or NB will respond there but at least we'll have those specific questions to Benjaman in one spot.

Hope this will be a help.

ETA: I posted a thread... because I'm such a noob and a dork, I tried my hand at creating a new post before I hit submit on this post! So, it's there. Again, if I'm out of line or in error by doing it please correct me. Thanks!

====================================
Thank you for doing this. I had compiled a list of questions earlier this month. I was waiting for 'permission' to do this. But I like this way better.
It is the old adage, it is better to ask for forgiveness later than permission now.
Thanks again.

Question? Has anyone, believe09, told BK about the question thread?

  • #263
Thanks for starting the question thread snowme. I had thought we had one but looked and I guess we hadn't. If my post hasn't been copied to the question thread, I'll go ahead and copy it now.

I just saw that it existed. I will pass it along to him and let you know his thoughts-I realize that the intention is for him to respond himself. :)

I have been trolling for information regarding Mr Kyle's recollections on other sites such as City Data.com. I posted in January of this year regarding some of Mr. Kyles recollections about some restaurants run by the Leone's in Denver during the 80's and 90's. THIS MORNING, I received some information from someone who claims to have managed the restaurants-I sent him copies of the BK flyer to see if he recognizes BK....

While we wait, here is a copy paste of the information I received:

"Here's the story. I managed Cafe Giovanni and Alfresco for Jack Leone for a period of time. Jack and Janet Leone were married at one time. Together they opened Cafe Giovanni in either the late 70's or early 80's. They divorced probably in 83, or 84. Jack retained the restaurant and in 1985 opened Alfresco alongside Cafe Giovanni. They eventually closed in the early 90's for reasons I won't go into. Jack left town for a period of time and went back to Detroit. At some point he returned and opened Cucina Leone on South University. It was good, but didn't last long for whatever reason. His ex wife Janet also opened a restaurant on East Colfax called Janet Leone's and I believe it is closed as well. My dates on those two restaurants are foggy, but I could probably figure them out if I had to. I think Jack also had a similar concept to Cucina Leone by the same name in the Detroit area as recently as 2004, but I could be wrong.

By the way, Jack was a great chef. A lot of people found him hard to work for, but I liked the guy. Denver could use more like him.

Well let's say I'm connected but sometimes gone days at a time, this happened in 2004 and I've only seen it first here a couple months ago. No, I have not seen the local buzz I might normally see. This is a huge spawling area and has it's fair share of unsolved crimes and cold cases.

This is not one I've seen or made aware of.

What does this mean Peliman? Are you saying that you are LE? Are you saying you are connected with locals who might have been perps??? I am just a little confused.

Ack! No neither... I am not LE and know nothing of the crime itself. I mean it as I have time sometimes to scan the local news but don't reply often because I sometimes work 16 hr days for days on end.

Connected as in I do know the area which is alot bigger than Richmond Hill itself. Connected as in knowing the surrounding communities and which departments might be able to identify this person.

Seriously, the last thing I needed to do was sign into another forum

Well, that gives us some hope. Sometimes I wonder how in the world people have not recognized him.

This is a good lead Believe. I hope he can recognize him. Wouldn't that be a fantastic Christmas miracle!

I hope yours was lovely CW!!

OK-the tipster got back to me. The short answer is that he does not know BK....BUT he can provide me with some details that might get us a little closer and that we will take, right? You never know where these steps will lead, so we might as well exhaust them. I sent a few questions regarding who handled suppliers, common items on the menu etc...Here is the reply I received, snipped somewhat to maintain some privacy for the tipster:

Hello

Yes, I looked at the link. I'm afraid I probably wouldn't be of much help in terms of customers. I managed both Cafe Giovanni and Alfresco, which was 7 floors and was spread a little thin. On any given day 300 - 600 would pass through the doors not to mention a staff of around 60, or 70. I also was there in 1989 - 1992, so over 15 years ago. I did look at the pictures in the link. In fact I stared at them for quite some time, but nothing came up for me and I do have good recall in terms of faces.

If you have any specific questions I may be able to assist you. Staff, Menus, Buildings, Colors.

Wow, kind of disappointing. Sounds like the place was huge. If BK was doing any kind of repair, design or deliveries to a restaraunt, I would think he would be known by a manager. If he was a regular customer, he most likely would have been greeted by either a manager or assistant manager.

I'm glad the tipster is offering to provide some additional information. Perhaps he is in contact with others or knows names of others who worked in the industry back then. Getting BK's face in front of those who worked in that area during the years we think BK was in CO is of great importance. We'll keep trying.... I don't see this as a 'dead end' but an avenue to get BK more exposure and hopefully in front of the right person who recognizes him. Maybe wait staff would be good.

Thanks for the update believe.

Another thought. Is this tipster still in the local area? If so, would he be willing to print and put up fliers locally? Or could someone send him some fliers to put up? I don't have access to doing so right now with my computer problems. I don't know that we have anyone local who has been able to put up fliers along Colfax in the area's BK remembers. IMO, not just restaraunts, but convienence stores would be good places too.

Okay. Glad to hear that there may be a different kind of lead from Denver restaurant, even that main lead did not pan out.

I have mentioned this before. I get an 'off' feeling about BK at times.
I have continued to work on his behalf because his plight is so compelling.

BUT, why won't he come by and answer questions left for him? Why can't we get some answers to obvious questions, so it can be ruled in or out and we can proceed to the next step? Why hasn't he started his own blog? Why doesn't he open his own My Space page, where he can blog for free?
Why did Dr Phil show quit helping him after only a month? Why has there been no leads released from Dr Phil's investigator?
IF, BK has remembered things he does not want to talk about, can't he just say, ..I remember some of my attack and I do not want to go into that at all...
Why doesn't he come on this site or another site once a week or once a month and answer the most recent questions?
Why doesn't he reach out to Dateline, nighttime news shows, Oprah, People magazine?
Why isn't he sending his picture and story to the local Indianapolis, IN. Catholic high schools?
He has said he works odd jobs for cash. He can't work a regular job as he has no social security number. Why not set up a business, painting, or lawn care, or taking care of the elderly? He could keep his books. Put the expected taxed to be paid in an account or under the mattress and once his identity is known, pay the taxes.
He could then take a trip to Indiana and walk the streets, check out Catholic schools, see which neighborhood seems familiar.

I get frustrated with the non response from BK. So many of us put our time in to help him find his identity. We do because we care.
But, I, for one, need some feedback.

You are receiving feedback whether or not it is directly from Mr. Kyle. It is completely unrealistic to assume that he will sign on and be available to anyone simply because you want him to be. He is a man who has suffered tremendous trauma and he is in the unenviable position of having to both re-learn his life and skill sets as well as teach himself skills he may never have had before. I have worked on the net for years and I have not attempted MySpace.

What disturbs me about this message is the underlying statement that in order to receive your help he needs to reveal himself to you in a way that will satisfy you. He is a crime victim. His perps are still out there. Beyond that, you have no information regarding the circumstances under which he uses a computer and it's availability to him or what attempts he makes to earn money within the confines of the law.

I bolded some things-Dateline and a number of crime shows have been sent his story. The Dr Phil Show signs off most guests IMMEDIATELY following the airing of the show. The only reason they kept the board and 800 number going for a month was because of the number of hits....it is all about numbers, not warm and fuzzies in the talk show game. The PI is not obligated to share information with WS members, dreamweaver. We are not LE-we are sleuthers only. What we have that the PI does not have is hundreds and thousands of arm chair detectives who have some time to kill and a willingness to give it. We can churn up leads and after we have vetted them, we can pass them along.

We are in Mr. Kyle's life by invitation only-we take the information given as far as we can. The more we earn his trust and gratitude, the easier it will be to convince him that he can post here himself. He is an unidentified individual who happens to be alive. He is a one off in many ways-he cannot be compelled to take any steps that he maybe unwilling or unable to take at this time-remember please that we are here as support for him just like all of the crime victims we discuss on this board. JMO.

Good questions, Cubbs-I will let you all know. Our tipster is mildly uncomfortable with all of this-he did not expect to be in the middle of our quest and he seems a little taken aback. I will post the answers to any of my questions that he responds to and then I will see if he is still in the area.

My apologies to Benjaman Kyle and to my fellow sleuthers on this forum. I did not mean to attack BK.
Maybe I am guilty of wanting BK to reveal information. If so, I feel it is a natural response.
But, I will not ask again.
I do understand that BK is a victim of a horrendous crime.
