On the morning of the 23rd of July 1991, a group of 8 individuals left Igloolik NU. heading to Hall Beach, NU. The group travelled using a 24 feet freighter canoe powered by a 30 hp outboard. It was a stormy day with heavy rain. Approximately 15 miles North of Hall Beach, the canoe hit ice, filled with water and capsized. Only one occupant made it back to shore.

Looking at the ages of the missing is heartbreaking. Guessing they did not have life vests on. Probably wouldn't have helped much with the little ones but maybe the 19-year-old. Tragic all around.
