TOKYO (AP) - For this 91-year-old Japanese woman, it's not the money but the excitement.
She was nabbed for allegedly trying to steal from a woman's handbag in a clothing store, Tokyo police said Wednesday. It was her 11th arrest in three years on charges of reaching into people's bags and shoplifting.
"She appears to enjoy the thrill," said Norio Hoshi, a police spokesman. The woman, whose name was not disclosed, is believed to be the oldest pickpocket in Japan, Hoshi said.
A sales clerk spotted the nonagenarian lifting an envelope out of a shopper's open handbag Monday afternoon. The store later handed her over to police.
"I just cannot resist taking other people's things," Hoshi quoted the woman as telling police.
