They are reporting that Beverly Eckert is the widow of Sean Rooney, she was on the phone with Sean (a lot of media covered this phone call between Beverly & Sean before he died in the twin towers) when the twin towers went down 9/11, Beverly one of the passengers on board this flight.

Beverly Eckert – Wife of Sean Rooney, Aon Corporation, WTC South Tower, 98th floor. One of the twelve members of the Family Steering Committee for the 9/11 Commission.
Article New York Post "Kin Fury Boils Over" 5/20/04: "Families of Sept. 11 victims are furious at what they call the failure of the 9/11 commission to investigate the disaster that cost more than 2,700 lives. "Today was a joke," widow Beverly Eckert said of yesterday's wrap-up of two days of hearings into how city officials responded to the World Trade Center attacks." Requires purchase

Article Government Executive 4/24/04: "I think they had sufficient information to disseminate warnings [and] I think a lot could have been done with the information they had by engaging as many people at all levels, including the American public, and I think that could have thwarted Sept. 11." http://www.govexec.com

Appendix to Justice for 9/11 Petition:"When we first envisioned this commission, we did not envision it made up of ex-senators and ex-Navy secretaries and all of this other stuff," says Beverly Eckert of the Family Steering Committee. "We thought it should be professors and writers, scholars and also people who are involved in the news, but not necessarily a part of it. These people [the commissioners] are all a part of it. In many ways the government is part of the problem." http://www.justicefor911.org

9/11 experiences: A widow's story
Beverly Eckert's husband Sean worked in the World Trade Centre. He died on 11 September. She, along with other victims' families, forced the formation of the 9/11 Commission.
My husband Sean kissed me goodbye at about 0600 on the morning of 11 September.
It was Sean. When I heard his voice, my heart leapt. I thought he was out of the building but he said he was on the 105th floor. He worked on the 98th floor. That was the moment I knew he was not coming home.

But he was in this frame of mind that he was going to get out. He said he had tried to escape from the roof but he had passed out in the stairwell from the smoke, which was now getting thicker.
At that point we began to say our goodbyes.

Plane crashes into suburban Buffalo-area home; 49 killed
According the Buffalo News newspaper, one of the crash victims, Beverly Eckert, was the widow of 9/11 terror attack victim Sean Rooney, a Buffalo native. Eckert was traveling to Buffalo for a weekend celebration of what would have been her husband's 58th birthday.
She also had planned to take part in presentation of a scholarship award at Canisius High School that she established in honor of her late husband, the newspaper reported.
Her sister, Sue Bourque, said that while the family had not yet received official confirmation of her sister's fate, the reality was settling in. "We know she was on that plane," Bourque told the newspaper, "and now she's with him."

It must have gone down nose down. It only took out one house with little damage to other houses.

My prayers with the families of those that died.
How ironic to have a Miracle a few weeks back in NY and now this horrific tragedy.
God comfort all those involved here.

And people say my fear of flying is irrational.

This is so so sad. My heart goes out to all of them.

Not sure if this was posted already.

I cannot believe the odds of this. It is beyond my comprehension.

9/11 Victims' wife killed in plane crash. Apparently she was a great lobbyist for change in some laws. Unbelievable.

I have the same fear and according the accounts I seem to constantly hear about crashes local and national, it is NOT irrational. Now that I have decided to share my life with a Pilot and also have the most wonderful certain moderator hanging around this thread in my world, my fright has only intensified and the romantic Valentine's Day flight that I am scheduled for tomorrow has just been canceled.

I'm sure that my heart will still be hurting tomorrow anyhow as this is one helluva story to take in in soooo many aspects. The September 11th Widow dying in a plane crash on her Husband's Birthday on her way to honor him?! Am I really following this right?! Who writes this stuff?!

I flew to Vegas last week and I cried almost the whole time. I had panic attack after panic attack. It was AWFUL. And my poor husband had to put up with it.

I flew home from Vegas yesterday. Slept most of the day and night. Turned on the TV this morning to hear about this.

I would have never been on that plane, but it still makes me feel awful to think that those people went through the same motions I did that day. Security. Waiting. Hurrying. Waiting. Making small talk with the person beside you. Blowing up your neck pillow. Tightening and loosening their seat belt. Fidgeting. Paying attention to the emergency speech and thinking "I hope I never need this, but those people a few weeks ago needed it." It makes me want to go get a drink and toast to those people just thinking of it.

It is still so much safer to fly than to drive around the corner.

My little butterfly plane that I made the last leg on... I thought was going to touch and go. It was WINDY.

"A federal official says the crew of a commuter plane that crashed near Buffalo discussed "significant ice buildup" on the wings and windshield before the crash. National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Steve Chealander also says the twin turboprop aircraft went through a "severe pitch and roll" after positioning its flaps for a landing."

Prayers to the families of those killed :( Last night when I saw the breaking news I thought this is my worst nightmare since my hubby travels all the time. Since he flies internationally so much he's taking off/landing during the middle of the night. I always wake up and log onto Foxnews.....I can't imagine the horror of hearing such tragic news. :(

That is quite an irony. Did she have children, I wonder? I don't see mention of any.

Oh my, wasn't it a Continental flight that went off the runway in Denver? In the snow and ice?

We have a Continental flight to Asheville booked in April; I'm not feeling too good about it.

Terrible tragedy for all involved, for New York, and the country. I am so sad for the families.

I'm just now hearing this news - how tragic! My prayers for the families and friends of those killed in the crash, and may the victims rest in peace.

One of my friends dads was on the flight.

RIP Clay Yarber.

Prayers for his young son, and my friend, Chris. <333

so sorry to hear about your friends dad :( RIP clay. ill light a candle in his memory, and in the memory of all the folks involved.

i fly a lot but always get scared on the flight, and have to take ativan to calm down. i was so happy to hear about the hudson river incident last month with a good ending. now im freaked out all over again! i would never get on one of those turboprops .. i hear theyre very bumpy. i panic enough over minor turbulence!

even after all this, flying is still the safest form of travel. and continental has an excellent safety record (ftr, the flight wasnt even operated by continental, it was operated by a smaller airline that is owned by continental. not that the airline itself matters, they all have the same standards).

I find it troubling that airline seniority rules often results in the less experienced pilots having to fly the most challenging aircraft before they can graduate to more sedate equipment. While the Dash-8 is ultramodern and holds an enviable safety record it is nonetheless a very complex aircraft to operate that keeps both pilots extremely busy during takeoff and approach phases, especially in adverse weather conditions. Like all high-wing designs it is more prone to wing icing than other types but is also equipped with advanced de-icing systems, however during approach in bad weather there are so many systems to monitor that the crew may have overlooked the de-icing situation until it was too late. The crash in Illinois involving an ATR-72 (a plane similar to the Dash 8 but less advanced) was due to the failure of the crew to keep track of the icing situation.

I imagine the ATC recordings will soon be available, maybe that'll shed some light on what happened. If not we'll have to wait for the NTSB report.
